Hi, first of all thank you for all you effort to make Ubuntu and specially
Lightdm much more better.
I've experienced this issue in vary different Ubuntu's release. Most of the
time, I install both english and persian language and the problem is when I
lock my computer or when I turn on my computer at the login page I can't change
my language, and this is badly bother me. Because sometimes language is on
persian and system is lock and unfortunately I can't change the language with
defined key binding. So I have to do it with Alt+F10 or change it via mouse.

Thank you

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1703110] Re: notes doesn't delete only if empty

2017-07-23 Thread Alberts Muktupāvels
If not too late then might be good to include also this:

Title:
notes doesn't delete only if empty

Status in gnome-applets package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in gnome-applets source package in Zesty:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  [Impact]

Unnesessary work for the user as he is forced to clear the note from
text in order to delete it. It makes it more difficult that selecting
  text isn't possible with mouse.

  [Test Case]

Write anything in a note and it can't be deleted with 'x' or with
  'delete notes' menu item.

  [Proposed Fix]

The fix is a backport of two upstream commits:
“sticky-notes: make sure that notes are really saved”
“sticky-notes: fix path to resource file for delete dialog”

  [Regression Potential]

The fix definitely improves the Sticky Notes applet because without
ability to save notes that applet is mostly unusable. It does not
touch other applets so no regression expected there.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1628707] Re: Highlighting a region in emacs is invisible because region color equals window color

Title:
Highlighting a region in emacs is invisible because region color
  equals window color

Status in emacs24 package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
If you open an Emacs window in Plasma/KDE, and you try to highlight a
region of text by dragging the mouse, no highlighting appears. This is
because the color for highlighting a region is identical to the color
for the window background. I believe this color clash occurs between
  Ubuntu's emacs24 package and Ubuntu's X resource settings.

To reproduce, log into Plasma, remove your $HOME/.emacs init file (so
you have no personal customizations), and run emacs in an X window:

$ emacs

The window's background color is a light gray. Then type any text,
click and drag the mouse over the text (or use keystroke commands to
define a region). No highlighting appears, because the "region" color
is also light gray. You can see this by running the emacs command:

M-x list-faces-display

I'll attach a screenshot so you can see that the "region" highlighting
  doesn't show up.

The problem goes away if you disable the Ubuntu-supplied emacs init
  files:

$ emacs -Q

This is why I suspect the color is set badly in the Ubuntu emacs24
  package.

You can see the X background color by running the "appres" command in
a shell window, which proves a light gray background is set, the same
  color as region highlighting:

*background:#eff0f1

I tried to find the file where this background color is set, but I was
  not successful.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1705903] [NEW] audio settings dont allow selecting profile for bluetooth speakers

2017-07-23 Thread ulrich
Public bug reported:

Testing Ubuntu 17.10 daily amd64 encrypted home.

On previous versions of Ubuntu (eg. 16.04) in the audio settings when
selecting a bluetooth speaker a profile (HSP or A2DP) could be selected.
I connected my bluetooth speaker it shows up in the audio settings, i
selected the bluetooth speaker as output but every sound still comes
from built in laptop speakers not from the bluetooth ones.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1377653] Re: HDMI sound output not detected / NVIDIA optimus laptop

2017-07-23 Thread Renne
Same issue on Acer Aspire V15 Nitro with Ubuntu 17.04, Nvidia binary
driver 375.66 and Nvidia Geforce 1060 mobile + Intel HD Graphics 630.
The HDMI is hardwired to the Nvidia GPU and no Nvidia audio device is
listed with lspci, aplay -l or in /proc/asound. The Nvidia never shows
up, even on boot with HDMI cable plugged in.

  Hi,

not sure if this is an alsa or nvidia/nouveau bug.

  The laptop has optimus NVIDIA+Intel.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1086374] Re: Backup cannot be restored (no signature chains found)

2017-07-23 Thread D. Scott Boggs
Hello, I am also having this issue, under specific circumstances. I have
duplicity 0.7.11 on two machines. From the first, I run

duplicity --exclude /proc --exclude /tmp --exclude /sys --exclude
/run rsync://scott@remote_machine/ destination/folder

It initializes the connection and requests the GPG key:

Command line warning: Selection options --exclude/--include
currently work only when backing up,not restoring.
Local and Remote metadata are synchronized, no sync needed.
Last full backup date: none
GnuPG passphrase for decryption:

But when I enter the GPG key and hit enter, I get the following error,
which is similar to the above, with different line numbers due to the
age of this bug.

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/duplicity", line 1553, in

  File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/duplicity/collections.py", line 971,
in get_backup_chain_at_time
raise CollectionsError("No backup chains found")
CollectionsError: No backup chains found

Now this is interesting to me because it's somewhat different from this bug in
that it occurs on backup as opposed to on restore, and only occurs when using
the 'rsync' protocol.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1705864] Re: Nautilus no longer starts (again)

2017-07-23 Thread el_gallo_azul
Yes, I always tried to add each instance of this `nautilus` bug to
previous bug reports for the same bug. I wasn't always able to find
them, though.

You might well be right. It's more than a year since I last did a fresh
installation of the OS, and in fact, it has received a version upgrade
in that time, which in my experience, consistently breaks bits of the
system. At least this time, the computer still booted OK after the
upgrade, which is a first for me.

Due to the current level of accumulated quirks and errors, I am now
reaching the point where it is becoming so inconvenient to persist with
my current installation that I'll do a fresh installation as soon as I
get the opportunity for the week or so that's required to configure the
fresh installation again.

I have reported this bug several times (about 5 times) before.

I have not had this error occur for some weeks.

I was using nautilus during my current session about half an hour ago.

I have tried to start nautilus by:

  1. Clicking "Show in folder" from Google Chromium browser; and
  2. Clicking the "Files" icon in the Unity Launcher; and
  3. Typing "nautilus" into a terminal.

The best I get is the icon in the Launcher flashes as the application
  tries to start.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1568787] Re: resolvconf does not reliable receive nameserver information from NetworkManager

2017-07-23 Thread Vadász Zoltán B .
I first experience this issue with nm version 1.8.2-1ubuntu1 in an - as
of writing fully updated - 17.04.

Syslog will be attached, from that you can see that dnsmask gets the
nameserver, networkmanager gets it too, but it doesn't make to
resolv.conf, that will only have the stub resolver.

/etc/resolv.conf is a link ending in /run/resolvconf/resolv.conf.

Workaround is to manually add the nameserver to resolv conf and comment
out "dns=dnsmasq" in /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf which is
really annoying on a laptop which you move around a lot.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1448345] Re: Akonadi personal information management service not operational after upgrading

2017-07-23 Thread Chris Bartram
I've just installed the latest version of Lubuntu to try it out on my
very slow 10-year-old machine. Trying to launch Korganiser brings up
this bug (which seems to have been around for several years) saying that
the Akonadi PIM service is not operational. I've used Korganiser on
Linux Mint for a couple of years but I'm really not tech-savvy. (I'm
very old . . . and a bit stupid . . .)

Wolfi323 suggested in another thread, to try typing "~$ akonadictl
start" into terminal : it didn't work. Elsewhere I've seen instruction
to create a directory "/var/lib/mysql-files" : how do I do that? Is
there a way to do that by typing some instructions into a terminal? If
so, please make it as simple as possible - "copy and paste" is about as
savvy as I can manage.

Akonadi personal information management service not operational after
  upgrading

Status in akonadi package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Last night, I upgraded from Ubuntu 14.10 to Ubuntu 15.04.
Upon logging in, I found that I no longer have the KDE Plasma desktop
available.
Then, when trying to open Kontact, I got the following error message: "The
Akonadi personal information management service is not operational."

I was able to reinstall the Plasma desktop, and it seems to be working well,
but the problem with Kontact is persisting.
Below is the report. Please advise what steps I can take; I rely quite
heavily on data in Kontact, which at this time I am unable to access easily.

This could be because you hit a bug. It is also possible that this binary
or one of the libraries it was linked against is corrupt, improperly built,
or misconfigured. This error can also be caused by malfunctioning hardware.
We will try our best to scrape up some info that will hopefully help
diagnose the problem, but since we have already crashed,
something is definitely wrong and this may fail.

Users can change the lockscreen background in gnome-control-center's

This is probably because the default wallpaper file doesn't exist on Artful

On previous versions of Ubuntu (eg. 16.04) in the audio settings when
selecting a bluetooth speaker a profile (HSP or A2DP) could be
selected. I connected my bluetooth speaker it shows up in the audio
settings, i selected the bluetooth speaker as output but every sound
still comes from built in laptop speakers not from the bluetooth ones.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1703326] Re: Lock screen wallpaper is a plain blue screen

2017-07-23 Thread Jeremy Bicha
** Description changed:

The default lock screen wallpaper in Artful is currently a plain blue
  screen.

- This is probably because the default wallpaper file doesn't exist on
- Artful (/usr/share/backgrounds/gnome/adwaita-lock.jpg).
+ We just need to set a gsettings override in ubuntu-settings for
+ org.gnome.desktop.screensaver picture-uri
+
+ The easy fix for now is to just use the same as the existing Ubuntu
+ default background but Design could later provide an alternate
+ background.
+
+ Users can change the lockscreen background in gnome-control-center's
+ Settings>Background
+
+ Original Report

+ This is probably because the default wallpaper file doesn't exist on Artful

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1586528] Re: Avahi-daemon withdraws address record

2017-07-23 Thread Georg Acher
Same here with 16.04.2 (4.8.0-58-generic x86_64, no VM) and Realtek8111
(PCI 10ec:8168 rev 06). Worked before with 12.04, now it's shutting down
the interface every few days.

Regarding the Networkmanager restart: Not for me, the PID is still the
same.

Maybe the timing from the latest event may help:

Jul 23 13:51:19 braindead5 dhclient[26468]: DHCPREQUEST of 192.168.0.5 on
enp8s0 to 192.168.0.1 port 67 (xid=0x75dc0193)
Jul 23 13:51:19 braindead5 dhclient[26468]: DHCPACK of 192.168.0.5 from
192.168.0.1
Jul 23 13:51:19 braindead5 dhclient[26468]: bound to 192.168.0.5 -- renewal in
17447 seconds.

So the IP is valid for more than 4h. But about an hour later:

Jul 23 14:57:51 braindead5 avahi-daemon[907]: Withdrawing address record for
192.168.0.5 on enp8s0.
Jul 23 14:57:51 braindead5 avahi-daemon[907]: Leaving mDNS multicast group on
interface enp8s0.IPv4 with address 192.168.0.5.
Jul 23 14:57:51 braindead5 avahi-daemon[907]: Interface enp8s0.IPv4 no longer
relevant for mDNS.
Jul 23 14:57:51 braindead5 org.kde.kdeconnect[1675]: "No such interface
'org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties' on object at path /"
Jul 23 14:57:56 braindead5 kernel: [1879701.611525] nfs: server 192.168.0.1 not
responding, timed out

The interface was shut down (no IP, only visible with ifconfig -a), but
it had link state (green LED). There were no other messages regarding
Networkmanager etc. at that time.

It's hard to tell if the NFS problems are caused by the avahi-stuff or
both share the same root cause. In my experience, NFS usually "finds"
missing connectivity very fast, so it should complain before avahi...
Also on all other occurences the avahi message was before NFS.

I've now stopped the avahi-daemon. If it happens again, I will look if
dhclient runs and if there are increasing RX packets and visible
broadcast data from other hosts at the dead interface.

For some reason, if I leave my Ubuntu VM up for a prolonged period of

This sounds close to bug 1704297, and you have the same error message in
your log. So let's handle it there...

populates based on Ubuntu reviews, which is not present in 16.10
onwards.

** Description changed:

  [Impact]
- The "Editor's Picks" section currently contains a mix of hard-coded values
and snaps from the "featured" snap store section. As snaps are the newest and
preferred method of installing things in Ubuntu it should show these before the
other options.

2017-07-23 Thread Robert Ancell
I've uploaded this to ppa:ubuntu-desktop/gnome-software as
3.20.5-0ubuntu0.16.04.6~ppa1. We need to wait for the
3.20.5-0ubuntu0.16.04.6 SRU to complete before this can be uploaded to

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1705981] [NEW] Chromium doesn't follow flash deprecation guidelines

2017-07-23 Thread Fink Nottle
Public bug reported:

Chrome has set the global policy for flash to "ask first" for a while.
Yet, chromium will always play flash content without user consent if the
adobe-flashplugin package is installed on the system.

Test: Visit http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/about/ on chrome and
chromium. Per default policy, chrome will ask for user consent. Chromium
will not.

Expected Behaviour: Chromium should also ask the user first.

Version: Chromium 59.0.3071.109 Built on Ubuntu , running on Ubuntu
16.04

** Affects: chromium-browser (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1580394] Re: [Latitude 3340, Realtek ALC3234] MATE - Headphone Static on Battery Power

2017-07-23 Thread spm2011

Title:
[Latitude 3340, Realtek ALC3234] MATE - Headphone Static on Battery
  Power

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I have noticed that when I am on battery power on a Dell Latitude 3340
laptop with headphones plugged in , and there is no audio playing on
the computer, there is a consistent static sound that comes through
the headphones at a constant volume that is not affected by changing
the volume level. I think it may be picking up some kind of analog
loopback signal because keyboard presses and disk activity seem to
influence the noise. When I plug the power cable into the laptop , the
  static immediately goes away.

I reported this earlier to the upstream Linux Kernel bug tracker, but
it seems to be fixed in any distro running a 4.4 kernel or greater
that I have tested , Except for Ubuntu MATE 16.04 LTS 64-bit. This
make me think it is not a kernel level issue and is found somewhere
either in the audio settings on Ubuntu MATE or a pulseaudio bug. I
cannot reproduce it on any other 16.04 distro version, but it also
affects all the 14.04.4 distros as well.

Running amixer -c 1 set "Loopback Mixing" "Disabled" does not prevent
  the static.

The BIOS Firmware version is up to date.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1705943] [NEW] No sound on 17.04 [System Product Name, Realtek ALC887-VD, Green Line Out, Rear]

2017-07-23 Thread Kyle Enger
Public bug reported:

I upgraded from 16.10 to 17.04 using Software Updater on 2017-07-22. The
upgrade is working well except for almost complete lack of sound; the
only time I've heard sound is with the 1st set (but not 2nd set) of test
tones during the ubuntu-bug submission process for this bug. It is not a
hardware issue since my machine is a dual boot with Windows 10 and sound
works on Windows. pavucontrol says I have "Built-in Audio Digital Stereo
(IEC958)" and indicates the system is not muted and shows a visual
indicator of sound being played when I play a test sound. aplay -l gives
the following:

The crash is caused by a failed assertion, i.e., that uncompress()
returns Z_OK. I have managed to debug it a bit, and it appears that
uncompress returns Z_DATA_ERROR because the compressed input is
corrupted, and interestingly, consists of all zeroes.

Note that this is an arm64 system, which has a weakly ordered memory
model, so this could be a synchronization issue.

The exact same bug has been reported here, running on an arm64 based
Chromebook.

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=862591

The reason I am reporting this against glib2.0 and not vte2.91 is that
the issue only occurs on zesty (not on yakkety), and the version of vte
between the two is identical.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1705951] [NEW] Freezes, crashes, returns to login screen.

2017-07-23 Thread Marcos Nascimento
Public bug reported:

I have a PC with a nVidia GeForce 6800XT graphics card. I installed
ubuntu 17.10 and have had many problems with crashes and freezes. After
login, the normal screen appears, the screen flashes and the top bar
disappears, flashes again and appears normal, but frozen. Clicking again
blinks back to the login screen. In order to access the system I was
forced to install GNOME Classic. I noticed that in ubuntu 17.04 and
ubuntu GNOME 16.04 it works normal.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1705953] [NEW] Prefer snaps in "Editor's Picks"

2017-07-23 Thread Robert Ancell
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
The "Editor's Picks" section currently contains a mix of hard-coded values,
values based on Ubuntu reviews and snaps from the "featured" snap store
section. As snaps are the newest and preferred method of installing things in
Ubuntu it should show these before the other options.

[Test Case]
1. Open GNOME Software
2. Look at "Editor's Picks" section

Expected result:
This section contains seven of the snaps from the "featured" snap store section.

Observed result:
This section contains a mix of .deb and snaps. Some snaps may not be shown due
to not being able to fit them all in.

[Regression Potential]
Solution is to change the sort priority of the apps to show. Could potentially
introduce bugs if not correctly implemented.

This section contains seven of the snaps from the "featured" snap store
section.

  Observed result:
This section contains a mix of .deb and snaps. Some snaps may not be shown
due to not being able to fit them all in.

  [Regression Potential]
Solution is to change the sort priority of the apps to show. Could
potentially introduce bugs if not correctly implemented.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1705953] Re: Prefer snaps in "Editor's Picks"

2017-07-23 Thread Robert Ancell
The proposed solution is to sort the candidate editor's picks rather
than only using snaps as this would otherwise be empty if snap support
was not installed (e.g. manually uninstalled or an Ubuntu derivative
using GNOME Software).

2017-07-23 Thread Robert Ancell
Snaps were added to this section in bug 1663097.
We are planning on making a desktop specific featured snap store section [1].
This change would ideally be included with the snap prioritization change to
ensure a good section of snaps is shown.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1697565] Re: Snaps without icons don't show as installed

2017-07-23 Thread Robert Ancell
Thanks Jean-Bapiste!

** Tags removed: verification-failed-done
** Tags added: verification-done-xenial

** Description changed:

  [Impact]
Snaps without icons don't show in the installed tab. They do show in search,
because the icon is sourced from the store.

  [Test Case]
  1. Open GNOME Software
- 2. Install a snap without an icon (e.g. openscad-plars)
+ 2. Install a snap without an icon in the snap, but does have one in the store
(e.g. moon-buggy)
  3. Close GNOME Software
  4. Open GNOME Software
  5. Click "installed" tab

  Expected result:
  Installed snap is shown

  Observed result:
  Snap is not shown

  [Regression Potential]
The code was refactored to download the store information for installed
snaps. This means the store icon shows if the installed snap didn't have one.
There is some risk of new bugs being caused by the refactoring.

Title:
Internal mic stops working when plugging in headphones

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I am currently running Quantal and when I plug headphones into my
headphone socket (which has an icon of a headset next to it, so I
presume it can take some kind of headset), the internal mic on my
laptop stops working. If I unplug the headphones the internal mic
  works as normal.

I tried this with two different sets of headphones (one of which has a
mic, and the other I think has a mic too).
