[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1742912] Re: Please confine guest sessions again

2018-01-27 Thread Doug McMahon
** Changed in: lightdm (Ubuntu)
   Status: New => Confirmed

--
You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop
Packages, which is subscribed to lightdm in Ubuntu.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1742912

Title:
  Please confine guest sessions again

Status in lightdm package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  This is a continuation of LP: #1663157 where as a workaround for the
  guest session not being confined the session got disabled. This bug
  tracks the fix for proper confinement.

  Original bug report text:

  Processes launched under a lightdm guest session are not confined by the
/usr/lib/lightdm/lightdm-guest-session AppArmor profile in Ubuntu 16.10, Ubuntu
17.04, and Ubuntu Artful (current dev release). The processes are unconfined.

  The simple test case is to log into a guest session, launch a terminal
  with ctrl-alt-t, and run the following command:

   $ cat /proc/self/attr/current

  Expected output, as seen in Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, is:

   /usr/lib/lightdm/lightdm-guest-session (enforce)

  Running the command inside of an Ubuntu 16.10 and newer guest session
  results in:

   unconfined

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1742243] Re: Please merge with Debian unstable 2.2.0-11.1

2018-01-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package openexr - 2.2.0-11.1ubuntu1

---
openexr (2.2.0-11.1ubuntu1) bionic; urgency=medium

  * Merge with Debian unstable (LP: #1742243). Remaining changes:
- Add ppc64el to the archs where to ignore test results.

openexr (2.2.0-11.1) unstable; urgency=high

  * Non-maintainer upload.
  * Fix CVE-2017-9110, CVE-2017-9112 and CVE-2017-9116.
Brandon Perry discovered that openexr was affected by an integer overflow
vulnerability and missing boundary checks that would allow a remote
attacker to cause a denial of service (application crash) via specially
crafted image files. (Closes: #864078)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1745780] [NEW] Setting from sysfs.conf incorrectly applied

2018-01-27 Thread Matthew Swabey
Public bug reported:

in sysfs.conf:
kernel/mm/transparent_hugepage/defrag = defer

After systemctl restart sysfsutils.service:

cat kernel/mm/transparent_hugepage/defrag
result: always defer [defer+madvise] madvise never

Problem seems to be related to lines 49-50 of /etc/init.d/sysfsutils, the use
of echo -n followed by echo.
If you reverse them to do echo followed by echo -n then it applies correctly.

Example of "echo -n defer > defrag":
  Mythmaster  mattaw  ⋯  kernel  mm  transparent_hugepage  sudo dash -c
"echo -n defer > defrag"
  Mythmaster  mattaw  ⋯  kernel  mm  transparent_hugepage  cat *
always defer [defer+madvise] madvise never
 - incorrect

Example of "echo defer > defrag":
  Mythmaster  mattaw  ⋯  kernel  mm  transparent_hugepage  sudo dash -c
"echo defer > defrag"
  Mythmaster  mattaw  ⋯  kernel  mm  transparent_hugepage  cat *
always [defer] defer+madvise madvise never
 - correct

Note: this is a bug in the kernel handling of the defrag interface:
https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/v4.13/mm/huge_memory.c:
Lines 237-255 or so.
Test is memcmp between the input buffer and "defer+madvise", with a newline
memcmp doesn't match. Without it matches:
} else if (!memcmp("defer+madvise", buf,
min(sizeof("defer+madvise")-1, count))) {
will match either defer or defer+madvise. Unfortunate.

** Affects: sysfsutils (Ubuntu)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1735362] Re: Replace ibus-sunpinyin with ibus-libpinyin

2018-01-27 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
To the release team:

There are currently four uploads related to this bug report and stuck in
bionic-proposed:

ibus-libzhuyin 1.8.0-1~exp1
fcitx-libpinyin 0.5.2-1~exp1
ibus-libpinyin 1.7.3-3 to 1.9.2-1~exp1ubuntu1
libpinyin 2.1.0-1~exp3

When testing libpinyin, for some reason autopkgtest run the tests for
libzhuyin 1.1.1-1 and failed. However, that test is obsolete, since
libzhuyin is going to be dropped - see bug #1745777.

So to move this bug report forward, can you please approve the migration
of libpinyin to -release manually.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1745690] Re: pcscd cannot load a usb device. Error with libccid.so: undefined symbol: libusb_handle_events_completed

2018-01-27 Thread Yavor Nikolov
Wow, I managed to find the problem. Ludovic, you were actually pointing to the
right thing to check:
$ ldd /usr/lib/pcsc/drivers/ifd-ccid.bundle/Contents/Linux/libccid.so
linux-vdso.so.1 =>  (0x7fff5e54f000)
libusb-1.0.so.0 => /usr/local/lib/libusb-1.0.so.0 (0x7fbee743d000)
libpthread.so.0 => /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpthread.so.0
(0x7fbee721e000)
libc.so.6 => /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6 (0x7fbee6e3e000)
librt.so.1 => /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/librt.so.1 (0x7fbee6c36000)
/lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 (0x7fbee7867000)

For some reason I had a libusb installed to "/usr/local" which was taking
precedence over the standard lubusb installation. I removed the local library
and things work fine now.

Thank you!

2018-01-27 Thread Yavor Nikolov
No, I haven't rebuilt libusb or libccid myself. Maybe the dynamic
loading mechanism doesn't find libusb. Or it doesn't look for it at all
- as it complains about not being able to find the symbol in libccid.so
specifically.

Title:
  can't add workspace names when using compiz

Status in libwnck:
  Expired
Status in libwnck package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  First off, I should say that I'm not an expert. I had an old install
  of Ubuntu that I used infrequently; I believe it was 7.04. Mostly, I
  was using Windows, and had installed Wubi. I believe the Wubi install
  was 8.04. Anyway, Windows crashed (see my boot.ini report for
  details), and I couldn't recover Windows (or Wubi). I've spent all
  weekend re-installing Windows to a new hard disk, downloading Service
  Packs, Anti-Virus upgrades, and so on, and figuring out how to set up
  grub to not step on Windows.

  Since I couldn't "dist-upgrade" 7.04 directly, I downloaded a Ubuntu
  8.10 ISO, and installed from it. So, I now have what I believe is a
  new, fairly stock dual-boot system.

  The problem I am having now is that I can't figure out how to rename
  my workspaces. I used to be able to do this, although I'm not sure
  whether it was under 7.04 or 8.04. From chats on IRC with Brucevdk, I
  currently understand the situation to be this: compiz doesn't support
  the renaming the same way MetaCity did. As I understand it, the
  window manager switched underneath me, and the functionality went
  away. Brucevdk pointed me at bug 129152, but the bug is closed,
  discussion there is long and muddled in separate issues, and seems to
  apply to non-current versions. I wanted to make sure my current issue
  was addressed. Additionally, I have further concerns regarding
  documentation (below).

  Returning to the main issue: I can right-click on the window manager
  windows, and bring up the preferences window, but the "Workspace
  Switcher Preferences" window that shows up only has two inputs: one
  for number of columns, and one for number of rows. I don't see a UI
  for naming workspaces (I have 4 workspaces, 1 row, 4 columns) like I
  remember. For all I know this could be a UI glitch, not a window
  manager difference. In any case, I don't think I've strayed from the
  8.10 defaults. The Visual Effects tab under the
  System->Preferences->Appearance menu shows "Normal". I mention it,
  because it's not clear to me what these mean, but seems important to
  various parties. If this controls whether the window manager is
  Metacity or Compiz, then you should know that this isn't at all
  obvious to a newbie.

  Secondary issue, possibly for a separate bug: I looked at the help
  for the Workspaces that is found by right-clicking the Help icon on
  the panel application for the "workspace manager". It didn't give any
  insight into naming these desktop workspaces under compiz. If the
  info is there, I couldn't find it. I felt surprised that the old
  behavior (naming workspaces) wasn't documented at a minimum, and that
  there wasn't an obvious workaround, now that the behavior seems to
  have changed.

  Am filing this bug under libwnck, since bug 129152 was confirmed under
  that package, and I can't offer a better guess.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1672822] Re: sound only coming from left speaker on acer predator (fresh install)

2018-01-27 Thread Aditya Kumar Praharaj
I am also one of the affected users. I want to contribute towards fixing
this / writing enhancements in the ALSA / pulseaudio. How do I get
started with audio driver development?

  what happened instead:
  Sound only comes out of the left speaker or subwoofer.

  did not. I also tried to see if it would work in fedora but the same
  problem occurred there. When on ubuntu 16.10 at first only the
  subwoofer seemed to be working and altering the file only the left
  speaker was working. On ubuntu 17.04 only the left speaker was working
  regardless of how I altered the above file.

  Note that the speakers work perfectly fine on windows 10.

  Looking around online there seem to be a lot of problems with acer
  predator laptops and sound on ubuntu.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1730672] Re: Proxy settings not applied system-wide, are not used by Software Update or apt

2018-01-27 Thread Anushka Trivedi
I was able to make apt work, by manually editing the /etc/apt/apt.conf
file, and removing the proxy information from there. But I am having
trouble installing any snaps, and still have to find a way to make that
work.

Jason, I upgraded from 17.04 as well but I did not have any trouble
interestingly. I think I removed the system wide proxy in 17.04 before
upgrading, because that certain university proxy won't let me grab the
upgrade, but then while I am using 17.10 the env variables($http_proxy,
etc) are set to that proxy, for some reason. I have not used the proxy
since upgrading or during the upgrade.

proxy here:
  - does not modify /etc/environment
  - does not set root's http_proxy, https_proxy, ftp_proxy environment
variables

  This means that apt and Software Updates do not receive the proxy
  settings, and package checks/updates/installs fail.

  workaround:

  sudo http_proxy='http://[username]:[password]@[webproxy]:[port]' apt
  update

  etc

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1735362] Re: Replace ibus-sunpinyin with ibus-libpinyin

2018-01-27 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Please disregard my proposal in comment #19.

As explained here:

https://lists.debian.org/debian-input-method/2018/01/msg00012.html

ibus-libzhuyin, built with libzhuyin-dev 2.1.0, is available in Debian
experimental. Furthermore, fcitx-libpinyin provides also a zhuyin-
libpinyin input method, so the fcitx-zhuyin package seems now to be
redundant.

So in addition to the steps already taken, we should sync ibus-libzhuyin
1.8.0-1~exp1 from Debian experimental.

Also, as far as I understand, the fcitx-zhuyin and libzhuyin source
packages should probably be dropped from the archive.

** Also affects: ibus-libzhuyin (Ubuntu)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1721428] Re: Artful (17.10) Session logout after screen turned off

2018-01-27 Thread smk
Switching from Wayland to Xorg in Gnome Session not only solved the session
logout problem, but also a more serious one, namely, the computer becoming
completely unresponsive after suspend, leaving me with no alternative but to
force shut down the computer and restarting. Overall the computer works better
on Xorg than on Wayland.
I have Ubuntu 17.10 installed on a new Dell Insipiron 15 5000 series laptop.

  Since 2009, there have been several requests from the community to add

Status in intltool:

Status in intltool package in Ubuntu:

Status in intltool source package in Xenial:
  Fix Committed
Status in intltool source package in Artful:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  [Impact]

  An old bug in intltool breaks out-of-tree builds, including "make
  distcheck", in a lot of intltool-using projects when automake version
  is 1.15 or newer.

  The fix for this issue (by Aleksander Morgado) is provided in the
  debdiffs attached to the report.

  It's a long-standing bug which is present in all current Ubuntu releases,
  starting from Xenial. Would be really nice to get it finally fixed. The
developers have to patch their intltool locally just to have a working
distcheck target (which is used when making release tarballs).

  [Test Case]

  Try making release tarball for some upstream package. For example, it
  can be mate-desktop, a base project for various MATE components.

  $ sudo apt-get build-dep mate-desktop
  $ git clone https://github.com/mate-desktop/mate-desktop
  $ cd mate-desktop
  $ ./autogen.sh --enable-gtk-doc --enable-deprecated --disable-strict
  $ make -j5 && make dist -j5 && make distcheck -j5

  This will build the project, make release tarball and check it by
  unpacking it into a new directory and building (again) in it. The last
  step will fail:

  ---

  srcdir=../../../po /usr/bin/intltool-update -m
  The following files contain translations and are currently not in use. Please
  consider adding these to the POTFILES.in file, located in the po/ directory.

  sub/mate-about/mate-about.desktop.in
  sub/tools/mate-color-select.desktop.in

  If some of these files are left out on purpose then please add them to
  POTFILES.skip instead of POTFILES.in. A file 'missing' containing this list
  of left out files has been written in the current directory.
  Please report to https://github.com/mate-desktop/mate-desktop/
  if [ -r missing -o -r notexist ]; then \
exit 1; \
  fi
  Makefile:179: recipe for target 'check' failed

  ---

  The out-of-tree build breaks here.

  [Regression Potential]

  None. This is a fix for a broken feature, it doesn't affects other ones.
  Also the fix had been tested by MATE developers in various distros, including
Debian, Ubuntu and Fedora.

  [Original Description]

  systemd uses 'intltool-update -m' from intltoolize in its 'make check'.
  $(top_srcdir)/po/POTFILES.skip contains the name of a generated file
(src/core/org.freedesktop.systemd1.policy.in), which will be generated as
$(top_builddir)/src/core/org.freedesktop.systemd1.policy.in. If
$(builddir)==$(srcdir) than everything works fine. When they are different,
there's no way to instruct intltool-update to skip the file. Since the name of
the build directory is not known and can be arbitrary, there should be a way to
instruct intltool-update to ignore files relative to the $(top_builddir), or
something like that. One option would be to turn the file list into a list of
globs (**/src/core/org.freedesktop.systemd1.policy.in would work perfectly in
our case).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1117944] Re: [SRU] intltool confused by separate build-dir

2018-01-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package intltool - 0.51.0-5ubuntu1

intltool (0.51.0-5ubuntu1) bionic; urgency=medium

  * no-guess-builddir.patch: new patch by Aleksander Morgado.
Fixes build of various projects when builddir is not the same
as srcdir (e.g. when running make distcheck). (LP: #1117944)

  $ sudo apt-get build-dep mate-desktop
  $ git clone https://github.com/mate-desktop/mate-desktop
  $ cd mate-desktop
  $ ./autogen.sh --enable-gtk-doc --enable-deprecated --disable-strict
  $ make -j5 && make dist -j5 && make distcheck -j5

  This will build the project, make release tarball and check it by
  unpacking it into a new directory and building (again) in it. The last
  step will fail:

  ---

  srcdir=../../../po /usr/bin/intltool-update -m
  The following files contain translations and are currently not in use. Please
  consider adding these to the POTFILES.in file, located in the po/ directory.

  sub/mate-about/mate-about.desktop.in
  sub/tools/mate-color-select.desktop.in

  If some of these files are left out on purpose then please add them to
  POTFILES.skip instead of POTFILES.in. A file 'missing' containing this list
  of left out files has been written in the current directory.
  Please report to https://github.com/mate-desktop/mate-desktop/
  if [ -r missing -o -r notexist ]; then \
exit 1; \
  fi
  Makefile:179: recipe for target 'check' failed

  ---

  The out-of-tree build breaks here.

  [Regression Potential]

  None. This is a fix for a broken feature, it doesn't affects other ones.
  Also the fix had been tested by MATE developers in various distros, including
Debian, Ubuntu and Fedora.

  [Original Description]

  systemd uses 'intltool-update -m' from intltoolize in its 'make check'.
  $(top_srcdir)/po/POTFILES.skip contains the name of a generated file
(src/core/org.freedesktop.systemd1.policy.in), which will be generated as
$(top_builddir)/src/core/org.freedesktop.systemd1.policy.in. If
$(builddir)==$(srcdir) than everything works fine. When they are different,
there's no way to instruct intltool-update to skip the file. Since the name of
the build directory is not known and can be arbitrary, there should be a way to
instruct intltool-update to ignore files relative to the $(top_builddir), or
something like that. One option would be to turn the file list into a list of
globs (**/src/core/org.freedesktop.systemd1.policy.in would work perfectly in
our case).
