  Unable to find wireless networks after toggling wireless

Bug description:
  I am using Ubuntu 11.10 and network-manager 0.9.1.90-0ubuntu5.

  If I use either the network manager applet or the nmcli -p nm wifi
  on|off command to toggle wireless on and off, wireless networks are no
  longer seen even though wireless is enabled and the wireless LED is
  on.

  My Samsung N150 netbook has the rfkill.default_state=0 parameter. I do
  the following commands:

  rfkill unblock wifi
  nmcli -p nm wifi on
  nmcli -p nm wifi off
  nmcli -p nm wifi on

  At this point the wireless LED is on. If I do nmcli -p dev wifi, it
  shows no wireless networks. Other commands show the following:

  $ nmcli -p nm wifi
  
    WiFi enabled
  
  WIFI
  
  enabled

  $ rfkill list
  0: samsung-wifi: Wireless LAN
   Soft blocked: no
   Hard blocked: no
  1: phy0: Wireless LAN

  wlan0 should not be unavailable. It should be disconnected.

  I have to disable wireless and use the rfkill command to block/unblock
  wifi to get wireless working again. I suspect this issue has been
  fixed in network-manager 0.9.1.95 as there was a patch to nm-udev-
  manager.c that was committed on September 30, 2011 (core: improving
  handling of rfkill):

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When you create an account with the graphical gnome UI, it does not ask
for the user to enter a password. But if you log out and log back in to
that account, lightdm DOES require a password to log in. If you do not
enter a password for the account before you log out (which there is no
prompt for whatsoever), you are fully unable to log in.

Also, there are option is the password section of the Gnome UI for
account creation such as ask for password on first log in, that are
completely useless with lightdm and are VERY misleading to a new user. I
tried to show a tech friend of mine Ubuntu, and he was almost instantly
turned off my the lack of cohesion between the log in screen and
creating userswhich is kind of a no-brainer

  With Oneiric, I cannot have my laptop go into suspend mode by closing the lid 
anymore. In the gnome settings, the lid close action is configured to suspend 
(both on AC and on battery), but closing the lid does nothing. 
  Here is the output of acpid -d when I close the lid:
  No protocol specified
  xset:  unable to open display :0

  And here it what it says when I open the lid:
  Sessions still open, not unmounting

  Here is the output of acpi_listen when I close/open the lid:
  button/lid LID0 0080 0009
  button/lid LID0 0080 000a

  Here is what /proc/acpi says with the lid open and closed:

  Suspending in itself works fine with the laptop's suspend button.

clicking on floppy drive item under devices on the nautilus sidebar nothing

Floppy drive works well with windows on the same machine so it's not a hardware

Torrents) the incremental search tooltip on the bottom right contains
DoTo instead of To.

Indeed... if I set the video device in virt-manager from cirrus to vmvga
I am able to select higher screen resolutions within the vm.  When the
vm has a higher screen resolution, evolution maximizes as expected.  So
this is actually interaction issue between unity and evolution for
expecting too much screen real estate.

So I would say that this is indeed related to Bug #23810 but not
necessarily a duplicate of it.  I think unity should be able to deal
with applications that expect higher resolutions even if evolution is
not one that shouldn't be expecting it... so maybe this should be
reassigned to unity?

Same behavior here too as well. Very frustrating. Should at the very
least be a 'High' importance.

Ron, I'm using a Mini 9 and honestly, I'm not sure if I've updated the
BIOS ever on here. I'd up it to A07, but haven't had the time as yet to
jump through all the hoops necessary (since the only update I've found
is a Windows executable). Might try it this week and see if it makes any
kind of difference, though with such an unorthodox method of updating
the BIOS, I'm understandably nervous about bricking.

Hello,

the fix works.

I had the same error message and deactivated this EDS add-on first.

I now tried your proposed-version and the error message are still gone
after activating the add-on and the settings local adressbooks and
LDAP directory server in the settings on the tab writing,
addressing (all translated). So no more error messages and the
proposal of email-addresses and lists works. Thank you.

I installed only thunderbird and two dependencies, thunderbird-gnome-
support and thunderbird-globalmenu from the proposed archives.

I've found that editing
/usr/share/polkit-1/actions/org.freedesktop.upower.policy so that
hibernate's allow_active to no fixed it for me. It completely
removes hibernate functionality (a plus for me as I abhor that garbage).
As an added bonus it removes it from the session menu.

As I said in my first comment.
I tried: Ubuntu 11.10 32 bit, 64 bit and Ubuntu DVD version on three different 
computers. With the same modem. And got always the same problem.

What about installing deb files? If you are not online, you can not
install deb files.

This happened to me not on my main drive but on a USB thumb drive I use
for backup, formatted with FAT32. The backup program kept telling me the
drive was full, so I suspected if the files were not actually deleted,
so I searched for a bit and found 5GB of files in
/media/DriveLabel/.Trash-1000/expunged.

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: nautilus

  When moving files to the Trash which are belong to another user and
  you don't have access to, nautilus moves the files into a folder
  ~/.local/share/Trash/expunged. The problem is that there is no warning
  that this is happening and the location of the files is far from
  obvious.

  I only discovered the folder by using disk analyser and finding that
  there was a massive folder in ~/.local/share/Trash/expunged. It
  transpired after deleting the offending files that there had been some
  70Gb worth of files!!!

  Would it not make far more sense from a function point of view to move
  the files into the Trash as per normal but just fail to empty them? At
  least you would be able to see them and know that you needed to do
  something!

  terminated too. I tested this with gnome-terminal 3.0.1-0ubuntu3 and
  lxterminal 0.1.11-0ubuntu1.

works fine.

  This is not the same as bug 299409, since in that bug the resulting
  files are not empty.

Ah, I see the source of the confusion. Banshee has an internal notify-
sharp copy that it does not use when we build it on Debian and Ubuntu.
It instead uses the system notify-sharp, and hence will not be fixed by
this upload. We'll need a new notify-sharp upload for that. I'm setting
the Banshee task back to invalid.

Your bug is Bug #875632, which has been fixed in 2.2.1-1ubuntu1. If you enable
oneiric-proposed as per

should not be seeing that hang any more.

I'll leave this bug open as incomplete for the time being, seeing as the
original bug reporter has not replied yet, and I don't know if he's seeing the

It is a very annoying bug for the Java web application developers, the students

After that you will be able to change fonts and aliasing. But I agree -

should. Empathy gives an error message, and gives me the option to disconnect 
the Windows Live account or try again. Before an connection can be established, 
I have to terminate telepathy-butterfly, and afterwards there is no problem in 
connecting.
This has also been a problem in previous versions of Ubuntu.

What happens:
In Nautilus, when creating two folders an error occurs, preventing creation of 
two or more folders in a row (hotkeys, etc.).

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open Nautilus and explore any folder/place.
2. Create a folder using hotkey SHIFT + CTRL + N, type a name for it and press 
ENTER.
3. Create a second folder using hotkey SHIFT + CTRL + N, type a name for it and 
press ENTER.
4. Most (90%~) of the time*, an error window will show up with text:
The item could not be renamed
There is no  in this folder. Perhaps it was just moved or deleted?
The folder which was created as second will have its name left as Untitled 
Folder.

* it appears to me as if this error shows up only when creating said two
folders in a short time and without changing current selection. Both 32
and 64-bit versions of Ubuntu where tested and it has to be noted that
this misbehaviour isn't quite fresh, actually I do remember it occuring
many times over the last year or so.

(both on AC and on battery), but closing the lid does nothing. 
  Here is the output of acpid -d when I close the lid:
  No protocol specified
  xset:  unable to open display :0

  And here it what it says when I open the lid:
  Sessions still open, not unmounting

  Here is the output of acpi_listen when I close/open the lid:
  button/lid LID0 0080 0009
  button/lid LID0 0080 000a

  Here is what /proc/acpi says with the lid open and closed:
  gpothier@tadzim:~$ cat /proc/acpi/button/lid/*/state
  state:  open

  Suspending in itself works fine with the laptop's suspend button.

This glitch occurs since the upgrade to Ubuntu 11.10 with GIMP 2.6.11.

What I tried (and none of the approaches changed anything):
- uninstalling Compiz
- running xfce, Unity 2D and Gnome classic style
- booting without my Bamboo CTH-460 (and not pluging it in at all)

However, normal operation with the mouse and tablet are fine - e.g.
krita, games and desktop in general are running well.

  The tablet in overall seems to work correctly, with all pressure-
  features working. But quite frequently, while drawing, GIMP seems to
  wrongly read the coordinates of the stylus (as zeros, or negative
  values?), resulting in frequent, random 'line-peaks' in the direction
  of the left and upper image edges. With this bug it is hard to even
  use the tablet, since these problems are very frequent (see the
  exemplary image attached).

  The tablet works with no problems in MyPaint. The bug is reproducible
  in both Unity-2d and Unity-3d.

  I also notice the CPU usage increasing dramatically during drawing
  with any brush.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Connect the Wacom Bamboo One tablet
  2. Open GIMP
  3. Start drawing longer strokes with any brush

  Expected result:
  The brush stroke as intended by moving the stylus

  Actual result:
  The brush stroke as intended with frequent, random line-strokes towards image 
edges

Bug description:
  Testing screen-reader installation for Natty Narwhal Beta2. image is
  Ubuntu-desktop-i386.iso, dated 2011-04-13.

  1. start system with the cd in drive
  2. hit any key after bios checks to get the cd menu
  3. hit F5
  4. down-arrow three times to screen-reader
  5. enter two times
  when desktop stops, orca starts and this error will appear shortly.

  After the live desktop started, I used Alt+F1, right-arrow, right-
  arrow, down-arrow to select install 11.04. This error appears on
  screen.

  Ubuntu software center ubuntu 11.10 amd64 won't install most apps

Status in “software-center” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Openshot being one of them, at least half the apps I have installed
  even from official repository I have had to drop to terminal to
  install at clicking the install button does nothing at all. And alien
  arena which did install from it won't launch. Not that I mind using
  the command line but the software center is an important piece to have
  working. Also I have to run updates through terminal as well.
