No, I haven't. So the problem is that the process cannot read my
~/.Xauthority file, because it is readable only for the user.
So this is the reason, but what is the fix? Shouldn't it be passible to
launch GUI apps that need root privileges with /home over NFS? It's not
so unusual.

As discussed with Mardy on IRC, here is what I suggest to fix this bug:
1) include .provider/service file in the packaging of the purple plugins
2) add a field in .service XML to tell which plugin to use, fallback to use
libservice-name.so as it does now
3) in empathy stop generating a plugin

The menu appears in the app panel but dissapears when trying a mnemonic
like Alt-f. The keystroke results in no activity other than causing the
menu to dissapear.
Mouseover and Alt-f10 make the menu re-appear and function except for
the mnemonics.

The function of Safely Remove is to remove POWER from USB connected
devices.
Unplugging any device while powered up is UNSAFE! This bug is not about
unmounting a USB drive/stick.
If Windoz has no problem with Safely Remove are we saying Ubuntu
cannot do it? Really?
