I have the same problem. Most of my JPG (and also PNG) images cannot be
viewed on 14.04 EoG - firefox views them fine. And it's not a problem
with the image, since all my existing images which I was browsing
through easily in the past are now not viewable. Will try downgrading.

On 13.10, the 100% reset over reboot happens also on hdmi out on AMD/ATI
Wrestler HDMI Audio Radeon HD 7340.
But the volume setting is kept properly across sessions without reboot.

Raymond, EDID is normally also used to determine the screenresolution
but that seems to have a working baseline configuration. I also play
hdmi video + audio on my older laptop with intel hdmi with the same
