This bug might be similar to #1533040, but I should note that this is
Ubuntu Mate running on a Raspberry Pi 2 (Arm v7), so I don't know if
the other bug is on the same CPU architecture or not. Feel free to
mark it as a duplicate if true. I was attempting to upgrade to Ubuntu
16.04, and it appears as if I ran into some dependency errors. I'll
see if I can get them sorted out with aptitude in the mean time.
System is still stable and boots up fine, but I would imagine this
will affect new installs until the dependency error is resolved.

  Here is the error output;

  sudo aptitude upgrade

Bug description:
The standard run level seems to have changed from run level 2 to run
level 5 in 16.04. /etc/init.d/alsa-utils does not have a symlink in
rc5.d and so does not run and store and restore alsa settings on
  shutdown/boot.

Most internal audio interfaces are set to some reasonable level by
pulse on login. However, some (semi)pro audio interfaces like the
ice1712 based interfaces are not controlled by pulseaudio but just fed
audio in. This means that the user has to reset the alsa level at

2016-04-10 Thread Symax
As a stop gap measure to force it to install I edited
/var/lib/dpkg/info/brltty.postinst and put in an "exit 0" line right
before the line that states "# Automatically added by dh_installinit"
and I was able to get it to complete the install and stop giving me
errors. I read https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=718232
where it states that dh_installinit has some issues.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1568449] Re: [Toshiba Satellite S55-C5247] ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad not working

2016-04-10 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
This ended up being a BIOS+OS interaction issue. When booting to
Windows, it honored the Touchpad enable/disable button. Ubuntu doesn't.
I had to boot into the BIOS, and then hit this button once for it to
then be enabled again in Ubuntu.

Rolling back to prior kernel versions where this was confirmed working
  didn't change anything.

Toggling the touchpad on/off button doesn't change this behavior.

  This works fine in Windows.

  TouchpadOff = 2

  Change this to:
  synclient TouchpadOff=0

  Confirm this via:
  synclient | grep TouchpadOff
  TouchpadOff = 0

Then touch the touchpad and notice:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1568576] [NEW] Thinkpad T460 & Ultra Dock - No audio output on dock plug

2016-04-10 Thread Ryan
Public bug reported:

Thinkpad T460, Ultra dock, 2 channel speakers connected to dock.
4.4.0-18 Kernel / 16.04.

When the laptop is docked & speakers are connected to the dock audio
connector, I get no audio outpout from the dock audio connector.

Looks like the same issue as reported in:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/1385680

However the pin quirks appear to be different for the T*60 series of
laptops.

** Affects: alsa-driver (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

any bugs that might come up post-release.

This new release will also much improve interop with LXC, which has
  recently been an issue.

Other FFEs will be opened for NM VPN plugins and for NetworkManager-
  applet.

  NetworkManager-1.2
  Overview of changes since NetworkManager-1.0

This is a new stable release of NetworkManager. Notable changes
  include:

  * Added an option to enable use of random MAC addresses for Wi-Fi access
point scanning (defaults to disabled). Controlled with
  'wifi.mac-address-randomization' property (MAC_ADDRESS_RANDOMIZATION key
in
  ifcfg files).
  * Wi-Fi scanning now utilizes wpa_supplicant's AP list.
  * Added support for Wi-Fi powersave, configured with POWERSAVE key in ifcfg
  files.
  * Added support for creation of more types of software devices: tun & tap,
macvlan, vxlan and ip tunnels (ipip, gre, sit, ip6ip6 and ipip6).
  * The software devices (bond, bridge, vlan, team, ...) can now be stacked
arbitrarily. The nmcli interface for creating master-slave relationships
has been significantly improved by the use of

2016-04-10 Thread Raphael Ackermann
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1553358 ***

what's the point of having private bugs? is it so that I cannot leave a comment
or check it out?
filing public bugs as duplicates of private bugs doesn't seem very helpful

On a iMac Alu 2010, when upgrading from 14.04 desktop to 14.10 desktop

horizontal lines moving on a black background.

/etc/X11/xorg.conf is absent (using default config),
/var/log/Xorg.0.log doesn't show any error beside the lack of the
fglrx module. But I doubt it's relevant with the symptoms appearing on
  the server install.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1568554] Re: mirror.effect and flip.effect have same description in german - means: not showing both effects in Cheese

2016-04-10 Thread Andreas
the package "gnome-video-effects-extra" has to be loaded. Only there the
mirror.effect will be found.
The flip.effect is in standard "gnome-video-effects" already there.

series laptop), it happens without warning. After which time suddenly
application windows will fail to render certain characters making
everything unreadable. In the past it has happened immediately after
login, this time it happened after ~30 minutes usage from a cold boot.

  See attached screenshot.
This doesn't happen for every window, chrome is generally ok, as are the
unity launcher. The tools in the system tray and the power off menu are
affected, as are nautilus, gedit, and application menus generally.
Rolling over labels sometimes causes them to rener properly while the mouse
is over them.

  Terminal is fine

There is a workaround which is to change the font antialiasing
settings with unity tweak tool, however this isn't a permanent fix -
last time it was set to RGBA, so I changed it to Grayscale. This time
it happened it was set to Grayscale and I set it to RGBA and it fixes
  it.

I don't know enough to know whether this is a video driver issue, or a
problem with gtk or what, so it's possible you may need to
  recategorise this defect.

One other thing that may be useful info is that twiddling the
antialiasing drop-down fixes and breaks the font rendering on the fly,
  when I see this problem.

Bug description:
Since being standardised XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP supports specifying
multiple Desktop Names seperated by a colon, however many of the
patches in Ubuntu pre-date this change so don't correctly support the
  current format in some cases.

These days XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP will look something like
  Unity
  GNOME (gnome-shell)
  GNOME-Classic:GNOME (gnome-shell classic mode)
GNOME-Flashback:Unity (Flashback sesison, although upstream and debian use
GNOME-Flashack:GNOME for this)

Many of the patches only check for == "Unity" or == "GNOME", so
misbehave for the latter cases in the list above.

I suspect this will be more widespread than just nautilus, but fixing
that would be a good start. Since most of this code is still Ubuntu
specific (upstream mainly use XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP for onlyShowIn etc),
probably taking the last value in the string would get the desired
result of Unity vs GNOME3 behaviour

Title:
3 bugs from metacity 3.18.2 (for Ubuntu 16.04 xenial)

Status in metacity package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:

  1. Bug: Many Gtk3 Softwares don't show their border of window, based on
Ubuntu Light-theme. (See attachment Bug1)

   sudo apt-get install gnome-session-flashback gnome-system-monitor
  gedit light-theme

[Logout and login to Gnome Flashback Session (Metacity)]

   Open nautilus window browser,

Open gnome-system-monitor, then open "Preference" item from menu.

Open gedit, then open "Preference" item from menu.

   ..

Non of these window have border, which is extremely unfit under
metacity compositing mode (metacity -c --replace).

Note: If I install an old version - metacity 3.14 (from Ubuntu 15.04
repository), it does have this problem. So it's metacity 3.18 that cause those
border miss.

  2. Bug: metacity are supposed to quit if a new window-manager replace it.

   Run: metacity -c --replace

   Then run: metacity -c --replace

The previous metacity process doesn't quit, which both metacity
3.14 (from ubuntu vivid) and marco (from ubuntu xenial) doesn't
  happen.

  3. Bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/metacity/+bug/1538111

This bug still not fixed. There is a small possiblity that closing a
certain window will make all of other windows disappear, nothing would do
anymore expect killing metacity and run metacity again. Then disappearred
windows display again!
I only found out that if I frequently plugin and plugout external screen
monitor, the possiblity of getting stuck into this bug becomes larger, and
"close a window" operation is key that might cause this bug.

Bug description:
Every few days a dialog pops up saying "Authentication is required to change
your own user data" with an entry field for a password. If I type my user's
password the dialog will reappear with an empty entry field. If I click on the
cross to close the window many times it will be gone, but reappear a few days
later. I don't know what this window is for and it makes no difference whether
I close it or leave it. I don't use the gnome keyring.
This started with Ubuntu 15.04 or maybe with an earlier release, and is still
there in Ubuntu 15.10, also on machines I did a fresh install.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1568490] [NEW] Can no longer move windows controls to the right (16.04) - gsettings has no effect now

2016-04-10 Thread yossarian_uk
Public bug reported:

Just installed 16.04 beta2 (plus latest updates), I can no longer move
the window controls to the right.

On previous ubuntu versions I would use the command

 # gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences button-layout
'menu:minimize,maximize,close'

But this has no effect, neither does 'window controls' section of the
unity-tweak-tool any longer - if I choose right nothing happens.

If I check the setting with

 # gsettings list-recursively | grep button-layout

I see

 org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences button-layout
'menu:minimize,maximize,close'

How can I move the window buttons to the right now ?

untraceable serious bug in metacity 3.18

Status in metacity package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Ubuntu 16.04 LTS uses 3.18 version of gnome metacity.

When doing lots of mess work in Desktop (such as open desktop window,
sudo window, dragging window, and so on), "!! WHEN CLICKING CLOSE
BUTTON OF A CERTAIN WINDOW !!", there is "small possibility" for
metacity to get out of work --> Many windows are disappeared, with
only nautilus desktop background and gnome-panel on screen. "Live
Window List" still exists in gnome-panel, but no matter doing what
(such as open new application from gnome-menu or use Alt+Tab to switch
window), none of live windows can be displayed.

So the only way is to switch to tty1 using Ctrl+Alt+F1, and executing
"DISPLAY=:0 metacity -c --replace", then all windows came back.

Till now, I meet this bug every day, but still not sure how to
reproduce it bug. I think you should trace what the metacity do when
clicking "close button" that makes all windows to be disappeared.

  Thanks.

Firefox doesn't play fullscreen in html5 videos

Status in firefox package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
If I press fullscreen on a html5 video on youtube (or any other site
with html5 videos), no fullscreen mode is entered, but firefox doesn't
react anymore or very very slow to mouse clicks.

This happens both for my intel as well as for my nvidia graphics.

I am using xmonad as window manager if this matters.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1493804] Re: incorrect apparmor settings for lightdm-guest-session

2016-04-10 Thread Hadmut Danisch
Well, the sheer number of warnings on the screen renders the session
unusable. Didn't test it any further to see whether it's just warnings
or a limitation of functions.

Let's wait for 16.04.

regards

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1446053] Re: Font corruption some characters suddenly not rendered after login or after a period of usage

Ubuntu 16.04.

Title:
Font corruption some characters suddenly not rendered after login or
  after a period of usage

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
This has occurred multiple times on my machine (Dell Inspiron 13 7000
series laptop), it happens without warning.

Title:
Random characters in screen text suddenly disappear

Status in xserver-xorg-video-intel package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
While using my machine, characters suddenly disappear. No character in
particular, not in any single application in particular, and copying
and pasting the text preserves the characters.

Scrolling the text out of view and back into view doesn't affect the
missing characters. Switching between applications may change the
affected characters (possibly due to a redraw operation?)

Restarting often solves the problem, but it comes back after a couple
of hours working. I've attached a screenshot to show you the problem.

I do believe this is different than the bug relating to garbled characters in
a number of ways
  1. I don't ever get garbled characters
  2. Scrolling out/in of the affected text doesn't re-show the missing
characters, even navigating inside the application has no effect. 3. It's
global, I can even see it on Desktop icon names
