I have had the same issue after installing Ubuntu 16.04. I have tried the fix
from comment #31 and it didn't work for me. However, as soon as I plug my
headphone into the front panel headphone plug, the annoying issue disappeared,
and the popping up comes back if headphone is unplugged.

I have tried to reproduce on both 387 & 389. I have been unable to,
using the same equipment as last night.
I did not enable logging, so it does not seem to be the presence of
extra logging that stops reproduction.

With Xubuntu 14.04, network-manager and Atheros AR9285 card, the wifi
connections were OK.
Passing Xubuntu 16.04.1, the wifi connection is KO :
At boot and reboot, research Wifi my box fails.
