Title:
VPN with IPv6 connectivity but no IPv6 DNS server results in broken
  DNS config

Status in NetworkManager-OpenVPN:

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in network-manager-openvpn package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress

Bug description:
When connecting to a VPN that provides both a default route over IPv4
and IPv6, but only DNS servers over IPv4, you can end up with the IPv4
DNS servers set up as "split DNS". When that happens, the user is left
  without a working DNS configuration.

See the attached log file for an example.

I think the cause is that the patch for avoiding split DNS on VPNs
with default routes[1] stops looking when it finds the first VPN
configuration with a default route. If that configuration happens to
be the IPv6-side of the VPN connection, then it will still add the
  IPv4 configuration with split DNS.

A workaround is to simply add a IPv6 DNS server to the configuration
in addition to the IPv4 DNS servers. In that case, the IPv6 DNS server
  is added without split DNS.

This has been tested with both Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and Xubuntu 14.04.

  Package versions (on Xubuntu 14.04):
   network-manager 0.9.8.8-0ubuntu7
   network-manager-openvpn 0.9.8.2-1ubuntu4
   openvpn 2.3.2-7ubuntu3

Title:
patch - fix reverse search in various terminal apps

Status in Gnome Virtual Terminal Emulator:
  Fix Released
Status in vte2.91 package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  [Impact]

Due to a regression in vte2.91 0.44.0, reverse search was broken in
various terminals like mate-terminal (GTK+3 build) or gnome-terminal.
Searching with Ctrl-Shift-G could show you a result or two in the
currently visible part of terminal log, but further searching (with
scrolling the terminal upwards) stopped working completely.

This wasn't fixed in version 0.44.2, so 0.44.2-1ubuntu2 in Ubuntu
16.10 still has this bug. The fix was recently applied upstream, and
it would be good to have it backported to 16.10.

The debdiff with the fix is in the attachment below.

  [Test Case]

  1. Have Ubuntu 16.10 and mate-terminal or gnome-terminal.
  2. Have a lot of text in your terminal window, enough to make the vertical
scrollbar show. For example, you can build some package which is built with
autotools. You'll get lots of occurrences of the same word, like 'make' or
'installing'.
  3. Try searching for some word with reverse search.

  [Regression Potential]

The code change in the patch only affects the search functionality,
and that was already broken so you can't break it more. I've tested
both forward and reverse search with the patch, and they both work
fine now. I consider the regression risk to be quite low here.

Thanks for your bug report.

Unfortunately we already know that the nouveau driver is unstable
particularly with multi-threaded (multi-headed) rendering. The best
suggestion right now is to either only use a single monitor or to use
intel or radeon graphics.

Duplicate of bug 1553328.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1630085] Re: Ubuntu 16.10 beta breaks Asus Laptop touchpad behavior

2016-10-03 Thread Rainer Rohde
** Description changed:

In 16.04 LTS, the touchpad behaved perfectly, and as soon as I stepped
up to 16.10 beta the touchpad became unusable.

When holding a single finger on the touchpad, without moving my finger,
the cursor jumps around like crazy, and even performs clicks. When
placing a second finger on the touchpad, without moving either, it gets
  even worse.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1630090] [NEW] $XMODIFIERS not set correctly

2016-10-03 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Public bug reported:

The XMODIFIERS environment variable is not set correctly.

$ echo $XMODIFIERS
@im
$

The value should be
- for ibus: "@im=ibus"
- for fcitx: "@im=fcitx"
- for xim: "@im=none"

The issue is present in Ubuntu/Unity 16.10. I don't see it in Ubuntu
GNOME, neither in Ubuntu 16.04.

Actually I don't think the affected package is im-config, because the
issue is present also after having downgraded im-config to
0.29-1ubuntu12 (the Xenial version). But I wanted to file the bug
somewhere, so here it is.

** Affects: im-config (Ubuntu)

2016-10-03 Thread Diogo
Public bug reported:

I am using ubuntu 16.04. However, my inkscape doesn't open. It isn't

I have reinstalled libglibmm-2.4-1v5 but it doesn't work.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1579501] Re: graphics distorted, lightdm restarting

2016-10-03 Thread nbags
scrub my comment #11. i have NOT tested the new driver - the build in
the graphics-drivers ppa doesn't insmod on 16.04 with kernel 4.4 and my
system fell back to nouveau without me realising. i will test again when
a working build is available.

as for switching to nvidia-304 (instead of -updates), this did not
resolve the problem for me.

Title:
  graphics distorted, lightdm restarting

Status in nvidia-graphics-drivers-304-updates package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
The system was running ubuntu 12.04 without any problems, quite fast
and definitly worth keeping, I was able to play 3D games at decent
quality while using official nvidia drivers. Overall a pretty stable
system based on an Intel 965 Chipset and a Geforce 7600.

I did a clean install of 16.04 and added nvidia-graphics-
drivers-304-updates. At first the system was horribly unstable,
displayed garbage at the slighted GPU load, even starting frozen
bubble in full screen made lightdm restart.

  After using "dconf write
  /org/compiz/profiles/unity/plugins/opengl/enable-x11-sync false" the
system became stable but display is still often distorted, missing
picture elements, doesn't draw all elements in firefox, scrolling of
firefox and terminal output is missing parts. This happens around once
every minute so it is still workable but unprofessional. Happens a lot
more often in Firefox than any other application.

Also I have the feeling lots of stuff is working a lot slower than it
did in 12.04, e.g. starting frozen bubble in full screen takes a lot
  longer than earlier.

I think this error is somewhere between nvidia drivers, compiz and
  firefox.

Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1506704] Re: Thin font, nautilus doesn't integrate with Unity.

2016-10-03 Thread WinEunuchs2Unix
That's good to know. I now have Startup Applications loading (which also
causes a delay) and thin fonts haven't appeared in a long time. I thought
they had fixed the bug.

Thank you for the update!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1630013] [NEW] glxinfo infinite loop, no live image desktop login

2016-10-03 Thread Damon Lynch
Public bug reported:

On today's Yakkety Yak daily image I'm running into an infinite loop
with glxinfo such that no desktop shows on login. The desktop is black
(no cursor) and logging in via a console shows glxinfo running at 100%.

Package version info according to packages.ubuntu.com is 1:1.0.12-2.

My apologies but this bug report has been submitted manually because I
could not install Yakkety Yak due to this bug. I'm running an encrypted
/home and must be able to install from the live image desktop with /home
already mounted.

Hardware: Quadro 1000M (Fermi) on a Lenovo W520 (Sandy Bridge quad
core).

** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Tags: iso-testing yakkety

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1574347] Re: [SRU] Re-read the link type if the name changed

2016-10-03 Thread Antonin Chambolle
Ubuntu 16.04 on dell E6430, after upgrade:

- after suspend/resume sometimes the network manager cannot connect (but it
tries: it keeps associating/de-associating) [before upgrade, the wifi was
broken at this stage, cf below]
dmesg:
[101381.710749] wlan0: authenticate with 42:01:40:59:9f:3c

(max_antenna_gain, max_eirp), (dfs_cac_time)

- if I deactivate and then reactivate the wifi, then it reverts to the old bug
(where there is only one network available and nothing happens). sudo service
network-manager restart repairs everything...
The bug is still at this point:
[101418.822530] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan0: link is not ready
[101418.869145] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan0: link is not ready

a problem with the /dev/something, no?

strange...
hope this can be repaired soon. But also in the 14.04 distrib it was sometimes
necessary to deactivate/restart the network manager to catch back the signal
after resume...
good luck, thanks

NM needs to re-read the DEVTYPE after the device name changed, an example is
that WiFi network list disappears from network manager applet

  [Testcase]
  1. Boot the system. It should include a wireless device.
  2. In a terminal, run 'nmcli dev'.
  3. In the correct case, the line for the wireless device should read "wifi"
under the TYPE column. In a failure case, it will read "ethernet".

After upgrading to the new version, the repeating the above steps
  should give expected behavior.

  [Regression Potential]
Potential of causing regression is relatively small for a one line change to
re-read a value to be known.

  ---

  Problems:-

  1. The network manager applet does not show the list of WiFI APs it can find.
  2. The network manager applet does not the name of the AP to which it is
connected
  3. The icon of the applet shows two vertical arrows in opposite direction -
the wired connection symbol and NOT the wifi connected icon.

  Temporary Workaround:-
Log out and again log back in.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1629600] Re: Installed application from .deb does not appear unless Ubuntu is restarted

2016-10-03 Thread Hadrien
It seems that the process does not exit when the gnome-software window

If I kill the gnome-software process and restart it, the freshly
installed .deb package is now visible in the list. It's better than
rebooting but still quite confusing.

I'm using Ubuntu 16.04 x64 and the installed version of gnome-software

* I install a desktop application from a .deb package. I tried several
methods (apt install, dpkg -i, xdg-open then click on install button).
* After the installation, I control that the application is visible from
the system:
  * The application appears correctly in the application list in Unity Dash
  * The application appears in the "Open With" menu list in Nautilus
(because of registered mime types)
  * The package name of the application can be used as an argument of apt
commands (apt show, apt remove...) and dpkg (dpkg -l, dpkg -L...)
* I start gnome-software.
* I click on the "installed" tab to get the list of installed applications.

expected result: the freshly installed application is in the list
actual result: the freshly installed application is not in the list.

If I reboot my computer and start gnome-software, the installed
  application appears in the list.

It looks like there is some kind of cache that is not refreshed at the
  right moment.

While copying a large (8 gig) file across an SMB network, I minimized

the copy dialog was displayed on top of the other Nautilus window. I

I think this error is somewhere between nvidia drivers, compiz and
  firefox.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 887821] Re: "Show copy dialog" right click launcher entry doesn't work (on nautilus copy)

2016-10-03 Thread Siim Seestrandt
This disappearance also happens to delete confirmation windows. So I
wrote a little bash script and made it autostart to always immediately
remove "skip_taskbar" from these kinds of windows which makes them
behave. Attached.

** Attachment added: "Monitor for windows with certain title and strip them of
"skip_taskbar" property."

Bug description:
  Impact:
the nautilus copy dialog don't get properly focussed by unity

  Test Case:
  - log into an unity session
  - copy a not too small file (so you have time to interact with the copy
dialog)
  - minimize the copy dialog
  - right click on the corresponding unity-launcher's icon, and pick "show copy
dialog"
-> the dialog should be displayed

  Regression testing:
Check that there is no focus issue with that dialog and the launcher

  --

While copying a large (8 gig) file across an SMB network, I minimized
it. The right click on the Nautilus Unity bar showed a "Show copy
dialog" item. Clicking on that item did nothing. The only way to get
the dialog back up was to open one of the two minimized Nautilus
windows and then minimize the one on top. After that minimize, then
the copy dialog was displayed on top of the other Nautilus window. I
couldn't find any way to get the copy dialog back on screen without
clicking around somewhat aimlessly displaying and minimizing Nautilus
windows until it appeared. The "Show copy dialog" right-click menu
  appeared to have no affect.

Centrino Advanced-N 6205 here too. I have different issues from time to
time, I'd rather say I have every one described on this page. But they
happen without some strict manner, the only thing for sure is that after
every suspend I have to restart nm-applet to bring it back to normal
work.

2016-10-03 Thread Dan Large
I have an X1 Carbon Gen1 with Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 [Taylor Peak] (rev
96).
'sudo iw dev wlan0 scan' doesn't help. I usually have a blank wireless icon (no
bars) with no networks listed, occasionally the up-down arrow wired connector
icon. Need to go to System Settings > Network to see what I'm connected to.

GTK3 crash on this specific machine, preventing lightdm from starting
(with GTK3 using greeter), apport-collect for finishing and using
menus or multiple tabs in GNOME Terminal.

  --- original lightdm report ---

My yakkety installation is now for some reason in shape that lightdm
only starts with a black screen, although mouse cursor is shown and
movable and "wifi networks available" popup is shown at the top right
  corner.

After some while this disappears and the system goes to some sort of
tty switching loop where sometimes text cursor is shown and sometimes
just blank screen. If I want to recover text console control of
machine I need to quickly after booting switch to tty1 and stop
  lightdm.

This started happening last week after some upgrades and a reboot.

I've tried reinstalling and everything I can think of, but I can't fix
it. Meanwhile using sddm I can't log in to Unity 7 or 8, and gdm
doesn't start at all. So I'm using sddm + Plasma now but would like to
be also be able to run Unity 7 and Unity 8.

  I couldn't also use ubuntu-bug since I can't use the browser interface
from command line (otherwise it works fine until that point) and it
segfaults under Plasma environment while collecting information.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1506704] Re: Thin font, nautilus doesn't integrate with Unity.

2016-10-03 Thread Alfred Cavigelli
I had a freshly installed Ubuntu 16.01.1 with same issues (thin fonts). The
issue appeared with auto login only. Now I defined a auto-login-delay of 1
second and it works fine.
To define the delay open the file "/etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf" and edit the line
"autologin-user-timeout=1".

$ sudo nano /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf

autologin-user-timeout=1

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1607663] Re: vino-server does not autostart on Ubuntu-GNOME

2016-10-03 Thread Jeremy Bicha
** Description changed:

  Impact
  ==
The Desktop Sharing option in GNOME's Settings apps silently doesn't work.

  Test Case
  =
  On the host computer:
  1. In Ubuntu GNOME, open the Settings app.
  2. Open the Sharing panel.
  3. In the headerbar, turn on Sharing.
  4. Click Screen Sharing. Turn it On. (If it was already On, turn it off then
On.)

  On the guest computer:
- 5. From a different computer connected to the same local network, attempt to
connect to the local
+ 5. From a different computer connected to the same local network, attempt to
connect to the host computer.

For this, you can install Vinagre. Click Connect. Use Protocol: VNC and
enter the IP address for the test computer in the Host: field. Click
  Connect.

  On the host computer:
  6. You probably need to approve a popup message to allow the remote user to
connect.

  Regression Potential

This only adds a symlinked NoDisplay=true .desktop to
  /usr/share/applications/

  Other Info
  ==
The fix for Ubuntu 16.10 is a bit different. There we can just backport the
systemd service file added to vino 3.22 since gnome-settings-daemon 3.22
handles sharing services via systemd user services.

I verified that the extra .service file does not affect the way vino-
preferences works in Unity 16.10. It's just ignored and manually trying
to start the service in Unity doesn't work either which is fine. For
17.04+ we should look at having Unity use the systemd user service too.

  Original Bug Report with Workaround
  ===
Running gnome-settings-daemon -r --debug shows that it tries to locate
vino-server.desktop which it cannot find and therefore fails to start. Looking
at the debian package, a confirmed and working fix for Ubuntu 16.04 is: sudo ln
-s /etc/xdg/autostart/vino-server.desktop
/usr/share/applications/vino-server.desktop or only shipping that file in
/usr/share/application

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1589401] Re: cannot view wifi networks after re-enabling wifi

2016-10-03 Thread Jeremy LaCroix
Running 'sudo iw dev wlan0 scan' does work around the issue for me. I
have this issue on two computers, they have the following wireless cards
from Intel:

Intel Wireless 7260 (rev bb)
Intel Wireless 7260 (rev 73)

Just to be clear, should I be creating a new bug for each of these two
cards? Would this be the 'linux' package, or 'iwlwifi'?

Open a terminal with CTRL+ALT+t and launch 'gnome-calculator'. Type

triggering the osk, in unity8 would be a very large/complicated

  could be achieved.

  For design team
one idea was to add a show/hide button for the OSK.
realizing this may be undesirable to add another indicator item - a follow-on
idea might be to add an alpha button in the corner of the xmir-root window (the
window that holds any xapp at the moment)
this way the button presence would only be limited to the Xapp interaction.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1589401] Re: cannot view wifi networks after re-enabling wifi

2016-10-03 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
If you have issues with wireless not coming up after suspend, please run
'sudo iw dev wlan0 scan', and see if the applet then changes (it may
take a few seconds) to wireless and displays the list of APs. It does
not seem to me like any other workarounds are likely to work for
everyone.

If you have any scripts that restart NetworkManager or the applet,
please remove them for testing the above workaround, and to file a new
bug -- otherwise things aren't as clear as they should be for us to
understand what is going on.

The issue appears to be limited to the Intel driver, so people should
*most definitely* file their own separate bug reports against "linux",
so that we can know exactly each of the different models of wireless
cards are affected.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1574347] Re: [SRU] Re-read the link type if the name changed

2016-10-03 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
If you're seeing the wrong icon in nm-applet, please file *YOUR OWN* new
bug report, and write the number here. Me-too's distract developers from
being able to understand what the problem is, because many people have
slightly different issues that all look similar.

As we understand it, the original bug is fixed, where wireless would be
detected as wired on boot. That means it would show the arrows icon, but
my other issues can lead to the icon being wrong.

Unless you run 'nmcli dev' and see that the wireless device says
"ethernet" beside its name, then you are not seeing this here bug and
should open a new bug report.

If you run 'nmcli dev', and you have wireless that is connected, but
also wired or some other network device connected and you see the
arrows, then it *might* be expected behavior. Wired networks always take
precedence over wireless if both are connected. If you still think it's
wrong, please file a new bug, and include the output of 'nmcli dev' and
'ip route'.

When copy and past a line from the terminal to the browser the Hebrew text
appears correctly:
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root4096 יול 19 23:49 rsyslog.d/

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1629837] [NEW] chrome + hardware acceleration after resume causes unusable system

2016-10-03 Thread bendikro
Public bug reported:

After resuming from a suspend, the Ubuntu UI lags so much the system is not
usable. However, this happens only if chrome is running (or is started if not
already running) and hardware acceleration is enabled in chrome.
I've tried both GNOME Shell and Unity with the same result. ssh into the host
works fine while the UI is unusable, showing excessive CPU usage by Xorg,
gnome-shell and chrome processes.

I tried disable the NVIDIA drivers to test with nouveau, but then the
screen will not turn on after resume.

Yakkety appears to have switched back from resolved to dnsmasq, but it seems
server priority/order is broken.

Example: In split DNS setups, connecting to VPN will not cause us to
query the DNS provided by the VPN first (or only), which should be the
proper way to resolve names in that case.

Say server.example.com in the public DNS resolves to a.a.a.a and in
the private DNS resolves to b.b.b.b.

Stuff would work from my normal internet-connection, but connection to
VPN would cause stuff to misbehave. I expect to hit the b.b.b.b
address but since my normal LAN DNS is being used first, I'm really
  hitting a.a.a.a.

Please let me know how to proceed - Hopefully this can be fixed in
  time for release.

Bug description:
Since being standardised XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP supports specifying
multiple Desktop Names seperated by a colon, however many of the
patches in Ubuntu pre-date this change so don't correctly support the
  current format in some cases.

These days XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP will look something like
  Unity
  GNOME (gnome-shell)
  GNOME-Classic:GNOME (gnome-shell classic mode)
GNOME-Flashback:Unity (Flashback sesison, although upstream and debian use
GNOME-Flashack:GNOME for this)

Many of the patches only check for == "Unity" or == "GNOME", so
misbehave for the latter cases in the list above.

I suspect this will be more widespread than just nautilus, but fixing
that would be a good start. Since most of this code is still Ubuntu
specific (upstream mainly use XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP for onlyShowIn etc),
probably taking the last value in the string would get the desired
result of Unity vs GNOME3 behaviour

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 28555] Re: Searched text remains highlighted even after search window has been closed

2016-10-03 Thread Konstantinos Sakkas
I've come up with a workaround to this bug.

After having searched for whatever it is you are searching for, search
for something that is unlikely to be found in there. For instance,
searching for :: or
" is highly unlikely to return
any results and the highlighting goes away.

Hope this helps until a proper bugfix.

Title:
Searched text remains highlighted even after search window has been
  closed

Status in gedit:
  Fix Released
Status in Ubuntu:
  Invalid
Status in gedit package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Steps to reproduce :

  1. Open a text file in gedit and search some text (Ctrl-F).
  2. If the searched word appears several times, then the currently selected
one appears in some color (blue here) and other appear in another color (yellow
here). This is a cool function.
  3. Now close the search window : the words remain highlighted, and I can't
find a way to un-highlight them (selecting some other text doesn't work), apart
from starting a search on another word.

I believe all highlights should disappear when the search window is
closed, or at least when some other text is selected.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1132063] Re: Mouse settings missing from Mouse & Touchpad dialog

2016-10-03 Thread Roman Shipovskij
After some investigation as described in comment #27 I found that mouse
with type XI_KEYBOARD can be identified by XDeviceInfo->use it always
IsXExtensionPointer.

That solve problem for all mouse’s which I found

All who have a problem, please try a PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~roman-shipovskij/+archive/ubuntu/ucc+mouse

After upgrade:
close all Unity Control Center window (if opened);
open new Unity Control Center window;
check settings with and without mouse to ensure that all works as expected;
leave comment here;

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1578951] Re: Libreoffice is crashing causing the session to be booted back to the login screen

2016-10-03 Thread Mark Summerfield
I also use LibreOffice:

Version: 5.1.4.2
Build ID: 1:5.1.4-0ubuntu1
CPU Threads: 8; OS Version: Linux 4.4; UI Render: GL;
Locale: en-GB (en_GB.UTF-8)

When I used the UI Render: default sometimes when I started LibreOffice
it would crash the window system and return me to the login screen. I've
now switched to the GL renderer in the hope that this solves the
problem, but it is too early to say if it does or not.

Description:Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
Release:12.04

My problem is that I have my laptop connected to an external monitor, and if
I started Ubuntu with the lid open I can't close, because not only the laptop
screen goes blank, but also the external monitor.
As a curious detail if I close the lid right after switching on the laptop,
before Ubuntu starts up, it works as expected.
Of course, I have set the Energy configuration to do nothing on closing the
lid, and I agree that the laptop screen in that situation should go black, but
not the external screen.
There is a similar bug filled against previous versions of Ubuntu (#416236)
that was considered a regression, but in that case there was a workaround using
gconf-editor to manually edit the settings for the gnome-power-manager, but
there is no such a entry now in 12.04.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1627502] Re: Black screen, cursor shown, wifi connection popup shown

2016-10-03 Thread Timo Jyrinki
Managed also to gdb into the python process before apport-collect
crashed, looks similar: http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/23268999/

On the plus side, since I pinpointed it now to GTK3, I was able to
install lightdm-kde-greeter to get non-GTK3 greeter for lightdm, and I
can now log in to Unity 8 (which doesn't work with alternative display
managers) which is the main test purpose of the machine currently.

** Description changed:

+ GTK3 crash on this specific machine, preventing lightdm from starting
+ (with GTK3 using greeter), apport-collect for finishing and using menus
+ or multiple tabs in GNOME Terminal.
+
+ --- original lightdm report ---
+
My yakkety installation is now for some reason in shape that lightdm
only starts with a black screen, although mouse cursor is shown and
movable and "wifi networks available" popup is shown at the top right
  corner.

After some while this disappears and the system goes to some sort of tty
switching loop where sometimes text cursor is shown and sometimes just
blank screen. If I want to recover text console control of machine I
need to quickly after booting switch to tty1 and stop lightdm.

This started happening last week after some upgrades and a reboot.

I've tried reinstalling and everything I can think of, but I can't fix
it. Meanwhile using sddm I can't log in to Unity 7 or 8, and gdm doesn't
start at all. So I'm using sddm + Plasma now but would like to be also
be able to run Unity 7 and Unity 8.

  I couldn't also use ubuntu-bug since I can't use the browser interface
from command line (otherwise it works fine until that point) and it
segfaults under Plasma environment while collecting information.

** Summary changed:

- Black screen, cursor shown, wifi connection popup shown
+ GTK3 crash in various operations

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1627502] Re: Black screen, cursor shown, wifi connection popup shown

2016-10-03 Thread Timo Jyrinki
Anyway, there are multiple gtk related applications crashing so probably
not related to lightdm directly. For example the apport-collect that
crashes at some point, or if I open menus in GNOME Terminal or create a
new tab.

Zero problems using Qt/KDE apps however.

I agree this is pretty "Incomplete" for glib/GTK too...

** Also affects: glib (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Package changed: glib (Ubuntu) => gtk+3.0 (Ubuntu)

Title:
Black screen, cursor shown, wifi connection popup shown

Status in gtk+3.0 package in Ubuntu:
  New
Status in lightdm package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1627502] Re: Black screen, cursor shown, wifi connection popup shown

2016-10-03 Thread Timo Jyrinki
Oh, right, I needed to attach to the gnome-terminal.server to get a
backtrace. Here it is, and there seems to be indeed a crash in GTK+3 for
me.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1629770] Re: No "UI scaling" checkbox in display properties, no actual scaling in unity, nautilus, gnome apps

2016-10-03 Thread Ivan Sagalaev
Just found a better set of settings:

- `gsettings set com.ubuntu.user-interface scale-factor "{'HDMI1': 8, 'eDP1':
8m 'eDP-1': 12}"`
- `gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface text-scaling-factor 1.0`
- `gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface cursor-size 36`
- setting `layout.css.devPixelsPerPx` in Firefox about:config to 2.0

This fixes things visually, but the checkbox is still missing.

Also, this is effectively a time bomb, since there's no guarantee these
custom values would be nicely updated / keep working after the next
Ubuntu upgrade.

Status in unity-control-center package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
After upgrading from 16.04 to 16.10-something-after-final-beta the UI
scaling of desktop has gone and the relevant UI control is not found
in the Displays panel of System Settings.

I could work around some of the problems by:

  - `gsettings set com.ubuntu.user-interface scale-factor "{'HDMI1': 8, 'eDP1':
12}"`
  - `gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface text-scaling-factor 1.5`
  - `gsettings org.gnome.desktop.interface cursor-size 36`
  - setting `layout.css.devPixelsPerPx` in Firefox about:config to 2.0 (note
it's not consistent with 1.5 I use for everything else, it happened to Firefox
one or two versions back, and it's a separate issue)

These didn't fix the size of Unity panels and font sizes in window
