[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1692437] Re: Monitors on second GPU not working after upgrade to zesty

2017-06-03 Thread Richard Eames
Some more information:

- If I switch my primary display adapter in BIOS to the onboard GPU, I can get
all three monitors and two cards working, but the framerate on the monitors
attached to the PEG GPU is so low that it's almost unusable.
- If I set the PEG GPU as primary display adapter, all three monitors work
until it gets to the lightdm greeter where only the monitor attached to the
integrated gpu works.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1659886] Re: black screen after leaving bootloader

2017-06-03 Thread Karl-Philipp Richter
This issue is fixed in 16.10 where the screen is turned on with black
background and shows a blurry cursor. Since support for powerpc has been
dropped from 17.04 on and will be continued for updates in 16.04 only,
it doesn't make sense to pursue this issue any further.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 550856] Re: page size setting is broken, use it as default crop or fix it by other means

2017-06-03 Thread Ben
Sylvain, I had the same issue recently (before it worked well) and your
workaround did the job! However, I had to change page size once after
restart from "A4" to "automatic" to take effect (changed it back then to
A4). Thanks a lot!

Bug description:
  For some SANE drivers simple scan always scans the largest scan area
  ignoring the "Page Size" setting in the preferences.

  To reproduce:
  1. Open Simple Scan
  2. Set page size in Document > Prefrences > Page Size, e.g. to "4x6"
  3. Scan a document
  Expected result:
  The document is scanned at the requested size
  Observed result:
  The document is scanned at the maximum size

  Regression potential:
  Low. The fix was to set the page size using an alternative method for drivers
that do not support the page-width, page-height options. There is a small
chance that these settings might change behaviour / expose bugs on drivers that
were previously working.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1695652] [NEW] Audio recordings crackle

2017-06-03 Thread Brad Magyar
Public bug reported:

I still have small crackles in my line input audio, even after trying
everything suggested in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/PositionReporting

I also lowered the line boost level in alsamixer, which helped, but
there are still slight pops and cracks every second or two, depending on
the level of audio coming in.

I have just upgraded to a fresh install of 16.04 and I see this bug. The
bug has been reported one year ago when 16.04 was available. When is it
going to be in the distro?

  Package: firefox
  Version:  53.0.is.52.0.2-1
  Severity: normal

  libyuv which is a performance critical library for firefix is built with
  -Os which is horrible for performance for it.
  In particular row_common.cc which contains the generic parts of the
  color transformation code:

  See:
  https://buildd.debian.org/status/fetch.php?pkg=3Dfirefox=3Damd64=
  =3D53.0.is.52.0.2-1=3D1492644908=3D0

  /usr/bin/g++ -std=3Dgnu++11 -o row_common.o -c  ...   -fPIC
  -DMOZILLA_CLIENT -include
  /PKGBUILDDIR/build-browser/mozilla-config.h -MD -MP -MF
  =2Edeps/row_common.o.pp -Wdate-time -D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=3D2 -Wall
  -Wc++11-compat -Wempty-body -Wignored-qualifiers -Woverloaded-virtual
  -Wpointer-arith -Wsign-compare -Wtype-limits -Wunreachable-code
  -Wwrite-strings -Wno-invalid-offsetof -Wc++14-compat
  -Wno-error=3Dmaybe-uninitialized -Wno-error=3Ddeprecated-declarations
  -Wno-error=3Darray-bounds -fno-lifetime-dse -fstack-protector-strong
  -Wformat -Werror=3Dformat-security -fno-schedule-insns2 -fno-lifetime-dse=

  -fno-delete-null-pointer-checks -fno-exceptions -fno-strict-aliasing
  -fno-rtti -ffunction-sections -fdata-sections -fno-exceptions
  -fno-math-errno -pthread -pipe  -g -freorder-blocks -Os
  -fomit-frame-pointer
  /PKGBUILDDIR/media/libyuv/source/row_common.cc

  The problematic part is the YuvPixel function which is called in loops
  and in turn calls tiny clamp functions.
  Os disables inlining so this causes massive overhead.
  This is the top cpu profile on sites which e.g. display videos.
17.25%  libxul.so   [.] YuvPixel=E2=96=92
 6.58%  libxul.so   [.] Clamp   =E2=96=92
 6.46%  libxul.so   [.] clamp255

  The problem is not as bad as it looks as this generic code is only
  executed on machines that do not have SSSE3, AVX2 or NEON (see
  convert_argb.cc)
  But there are still plenty useful cpus that do not have these
  instruction sets and are crippled by the compiler flags used.

  Is it possible to compile this library with O3 to allow the compiler to
  vectorize it with the best available generic instruction set (e.g. SSE2
  on x64).

  cheers,
  Julian Taylor

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1533480] Re: banshee stops respondiing during media import

2017-06-03 Thread Misur Braford
I also had this problem running banshee 2.6.2 on Kubuntu 17.04, as I
wanted to clean out my system (fresh install of Kubuntu). Disabling
plugins, importing single files at a time, or any other solution
mentioned here did not solve the problem. How I imported my cleaned-out
library was by doing the following:

1) Preferences -> Source Specific: set Music Folder to my actual music folder
(which is on another partition)
2) Preferences -> Extensions: disable Library Watcher and enable it again. It
started scanning the library and crashed banshee after a couple of seconds.
3) Close banshee and re-open it. Now it showed a couple of albums (those which
it was able to scan before crashing, I assume)
4) Tools -> rescan Music Library

Now it cleanly scanned all files in my library!

I had 'Copy files to media folder when importing' and 'Update file and folder
names' disabled.
Library Watcher and BPM Detection are the only extensions I have enabled.

Note: I am not at all capable of finding out how or why it crashed, or
why this worked.

Status in gnome-software package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Ubuntu Software was run manually. The Updates tab was selected and one
  update was reported. The item was OS Update. The button was clicked to
  install the update.

  The expected behavior was that installation should proceed
  consistently to 100%.

  The observed behavior is that the button label changes to Installing
  and the button progress bar progresses to about 50%. At 50% the
  progress stops and it just sits there without any other visible output
  to the X session. The Ubuntu Software application is still responsive.
  It is possible to select the All and Installed tabs and the display
  will update as expected. However, the Updates tab remains stuck on
  50%.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1695619] [NEW] trackpad hardly usable under default settings

2017-06-03 Thread Andreas E.
Public bug reported:

The default settings of xinput for trackpad make users think it is not
working. Behavior that one is used from trackpads under Linux as well as
other operating systems is disabled and needs to be enabled for the
individual user account. As a consequence, the user's custom settings
are not available on the multi-user login screen.

- Tapping is disabled. You need to find out that you have to press hard to
click.
  libinput Tapping Enabled (281): 0

- Cursor acceleration is off. A finger move moves the cursor only about 4cm.
With linear speed, this requires many moves to cross the screen diagonal.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1695601] [NEW] IPv6 temporary/privacy addresses lifetime are not renewed upon new ICMPv6 Router-Advertisement packet

2017-06-03 Thread Pirouette Cacahuète
Public bug reported:

My ISP's router provides IPv6 connectivity and advertises valid lifetime
of 900 secs and preferred lifetime of 300 secs. My Ubuntu 17.04 (and
previous) installation has been showing weird behavior over IPv6, with
connections dropping quite often but on a regular basis.

After extensive debugging and verification that there was no issue on router
side, and on WiFi physical connection, I have verified that this was not
related to the lack of ICMPv6 RA packets.
Running |watch -d -n1 ip -6 addr show dev wlan0| shows:
 - decreasing valid_lft and preferred_lft on both IPv6 addresses
 - upon ICMPv6 RA packet received, the global SLAAC address derived from MAC
gets valid_lft and preferred_lft field updated
 - at the same time, the privacy extension address is still decreasing

System uses NetworkManager to handle all of that. I could verify that my
desktop system, running Debian Sid with NetworkManager v1.6 was not
exposing the issue.

Running NetworkManager in debug mode gives more informations:
> nm_ubuntu_zesty.log:NetworkManager[2418]:  [1496447074.7897]
> platform-linux: event-notification: NEWADDR, seq 0:
> 2a01:::::::39c5/64 lft 900sec pref 300sec lifetime
> 289-289[300,900] dev 3 flags secondary src kernel
> nm_ubuntu_zesty.log:NetworkManager[2418]:  [1496447074.7901]
> platform-linux: event-notification: NEWADDR, seq 0:
> 2a01:::::::39c5/64 lft 622sec pref 22sec lifetime
> 289-289[22,622] dev 3 flags secondary src kernel

The two timestamps of the NEWADDR event are very very close. The first
one shows proper update of the lifetimes values ; while the second one
shows invalid values being pushed. With those informations in mind, I
dug a little bit in the NetworkManager source code, and I found that
there was one change between v1.4.4 (current Zesty package) and v1.6
(Debian sid package) that was touching the code handling IPv6 addresses
sync:
https://cgit.freedesktop.org/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/commit/?id=1dbd9d7948
; the commit states that without this change, NM might overwrite IPv6
temporary addresses changes.

I took my chance and rebuilt network-manager-1.4.4 package with that
patch included: IPv6 temporary privacy extensions enabled addresses gets
proper updates of their lifetime when ICMPv6 packets reaches my system.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1582213] Re: [xenial] Bluetooth device doesn't play any sound in A2DP mode unless set to HSP/HFP first

2017-06-03 Thread Doug Morse
The problem appears to be with setting up the input sink, which I
couldn't care less about. If any knows of a way for bluez / pulseaudio
to force a device to just connect as an output-only device (e.g., normal
bluetooth speaker), I think I'd be fine, as I have no problems with
numerous other bluetooth speakers.

If not, I think for me the key is to figure out why the input sink
cannot be established due to the "device or resource busy" message. If
I could figure out how to a detailed debug / strace of bluetoothd when
it tries to establish the input sink, that'd be most helpful. I've
tried before w/o finding anything helpful.

For me, I think the issue is not with pulseaudio but truly with bluez.

Given this, I'd like to request that my bug 1691556 be re-opened and
unmarked as a duplicate. From my perspective, no evidence or
explanation has been given for why my report was marked as a duplicate
as this one. The errors I've been continually reporting are different
than those reported by others, and the fixes that seem to work for
others do not work for me.

For the record, here are the pulseaudio and bluez packages I presently
have installed on my Ubuntu 16.04.02 LTS 64-bit on an Intel NUC i5
(NUC5i5RYH):

@hife: Thanks for describing your workaround in greater detail.

I've already tried the a2dp.py script, it doesn't fix the problem for
me. I just downloaded again the latest version and tried again, no joy:

  Bluetooth device doesn't play any sound in A2DP mode unless set to HSP/HFP
first. A2DP is the high quality profile used for Bluetooth speakers and music
in general.

  [Test Case]
  1. Pair a Bluetooth audio device with Ubuntu.
  2. Verify in Sound settings you have it set to A2DP mode.
  3. Turn off and then on the Bluetooth device.
  4. Verify the device has reconnected and if not, force it to in the Bluetooth
indicator menu.
  5. Open Sound settings again, select the device and verify it's reappeared in
A2DP mode.
  6. Click 'Test Sound'.
  Expected: Sound can be heard from the Bluetooth device.

  [Regression Potential]
  Low. The SRU focuses on Bluetooth logic in pulseaudio, so that is the main
area affected. A combination of related A2DP bugs in pulseaudio in xenial means
it is difficult to get working at all without this patch. So highly unlikely
Bluetooth audio support could get worse. Since pulseaudio itself is being
modified there

  No sound on bluetooth headset in A2DP mode on connect

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  System: Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS
  Package: pulseaudio
  Version: 1:8.0-0ubuntu3.1

  After connecting a bluetooth headset in A2DP mode, no sound is played
  (on any output device). If I then switch to HSP/HPF mode, it works,
  but switching back to A2DP mode fails completely (when selecting A2DP
  from the dropdown menu in the audio settings, the output sink switches
  to internal audio and when reselecting bluetooth it is again in
  HSP/HPF mode).

  When connecting in HSP/HPF mode and then switching to A2DP mode, it
  works fine, even when switching back and forth between them.

  (Edit: Problem occurs independent of module-switch on connect.)

Title:
  Firefox and plugin-container (Chrome_ChildThr): segfault at 0 ip, sp
  error 6 in plugin-container/libxul.so

Status in firefox package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Hello.

  Some days ago, Firefox unexpectedly has been closed after a couple of
  hours (mostly viewed: YouTube and some other websites). Next, a dialog
  box related to the Mozilla Crash Reporter appeared - with message,
  that reporter is disabled (which I did earlier via 'about:config' and
  *datareporting.healthreport.service.enabled* key set to _false_) and
  no crash report is available even via 'about:crashes' etc.

  After this situation two entries appeared in the log files: first
  related to the AppArmor and second: plugin-container segfault. By the
  way: in the same time there was an update for flash-plugin available
  (see: 1).

  Anyway, 'LastCrash' file (which can be found in
  ~/.mozilla/firefox/Crash Reports/ directory) contains only:
  1484142985. Just like all the others files in this directory. There
  are also two folders called: 'events' and 'pending'. But they are
  completely empty. However, system log files, such as
  '/var/log/kern.log' or '/var/log/syslog', contains an interesting
  entries:

  ● Jan 11 14:56:25 t4 kernel: [ 4161.295639] type=1400
  audit(1484142985.517:46): apparmor="DENIED" operation="open"
  parent=2818 profile="/usr/lib/firefox/firefox{,*[^s][^h]}"
  name="/proc/2818/task/" pid=3253 comm="firefox" requested_mask="r"
  denied_mask="r" fsuid=1000 ouid=1000

  ● Jan 11 14:56:25 t4 kernel: [ 4161.540727] Chrome_ChildThr[2890]:
  segfault at 0 ip b76df673 sp b1efe9f0 error 6 in plugin-
  container[b76d8000+42000]

  As we know, thanks to the plugin-container, plugins are separated from
  the browser process, making it more stable, right? So now if a plugin
  crashes, Firefox should remains unharmed. It looks like this is a
  known problem (see: 2, 3).

  By the way; on Moday, 16 January, Firefox has been closed again - no
  action from my side. Log files contain the same entries as above:

  ● Jan 16 16:39:35 t4 kernel: [14373.711834] type=1400
  audit(1484581175.931:48): apparmor="DENIED" operation="open"
  parent=2532 profile="/usr/lib/firefox/firefox{,*[^s][^h]}"
  name="/proc/2532/task/" pid=3389 comm="firefox" requested_mask="r"
  denied_mask="r" fsuid=1000 ouid=1000

  ● Jan 16 16:39:36 t4 kernel: [14373.934394] Chrome_ChildThr[3041]:
  segfault at 0 ip b76f8673 sp b1efe9f0 error 6 in plugin-
  container[b76f1000+42000]

  Anyway, after adding these two rules to the Firefox profile,
  everything seems to be OK and there is not DENIED message for
  "/proc/*/task/" entry anymore (so the first issue is solved):

  owner @{PROC}/[0-9]*/task/ r,
  owner @{PROC}/[0-9]*/task/* r,

  NOTE: This problem occurs when adobe-flash plugin is not activated and
  is permanently disabled and also when is used/enabled. Here are some
  informations about versions etc.:

  ● Firefox: 50.1.0
  ● Flash: 24.0.0.194ubuntu0.12.04.1
  ● Linux: 3.2.0-120-generic-pae (3.2.79) i686
  ● AppArmor: 2.7.102-0ubuntu3.10
  ● Release: 12.04.5 LTS (via `lsb_release -a` command)

  Best regards.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1659988] Re: Firefox apparmor profile: /usr/bin/python3: error while loading shared libraries: cannot apply additional memory protection after relocation: Permission denied

2017-06-03 Thread daniel CURTIS
Hello Thomas. Today, I noticed next entry - related with Firefox - in a
log files. I'm wondering whether to add this rule, because it's related
to the ScreenSaver, which seems to be pretty strange. However a log
entry looks this way;

✓ Jun 3 11:45:19 t1aa-kernel dbus[1473]: apparmor="DENIED"
operation="dbus_method_call"  bus="session" path="/ScreenSaver"
interface="org.freedesktop.ScreenSaver" member="Inhibit" mask="send"
name="org.freedesktop.ScreenSaver" pid=2149
label="/usr/lib/firefox/firefox{,*[^s][^h]}" peer_pid=1612
peer_label="unconfined"

So, the appropriate rule should look like this;

dbus (send)
 bus=session
 interface=org.freedesktop.ScreenSaver
 member=Inhibit,

Thomas, what do You think about; path="/ScreenSaver" entry? Do you
think, that "path=/org/freedesktop/ScreenSaver", also should be added,
or "interface=" is enough? But, as I wrote - I don't know if it should
be added to the Firefox profile. I will keep an eye, on this issue.

Thanks, best regards.

Title:
  Firefox apparmor profile: /usr/bin/python3: error while loading shared
  libraries: cannot apply additional memory protection after relocation:
  Permission denied

Status in firefox package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  When I start Firefox, even when run as root, I get an error message:

  /usr/bin/python3: error while loading shared libraries: cannot apply
  additional memory protection after relocation: Permission denied

  As a result, Firefox only shows white or black content in browser tab
  (which is basically rendered empty).

  I can work around this issue with a

  cd /etc/apparmor.d/disable
  ln -s ./../usr.bin.firefox
  apt-get install --reinstall  --purge apparmor libapparmor-perl libapparmor1

  After that, content is rendered again.

  I had this problem earlier
  (https://bugs.launchpad.net/firefox/+bug/1643200) and worked around it
  by installing a firefox extension "ubuntu modifications". But after
  updating from 51.0.0 to 51.0.1, I got the same problem again and
  enabling or disabling the extension did not help any more. Same for
  enabling/disabling all the hardware acceleration and/or e10s settings
  in about:config.

  Now that it seems to be an apparmor profile issue, I think that can be
  fixed in a nice manner. And it also should see some priority.
  Therefore, I think it makes sense to have a clean new ticket for this.

Bug description:

  [Impact]
  Backport git patch that fixes memory corruption in libgweather that is
causing gnome-shell to crash. This is particularly bad on wayland as it causes
the user to lose their sessions

  I believe this should also fix bug 1688208 and potentially a couple of
  other high ranking crashes on errors.ubuntu.com. I have not however
  found reliable reproducers for those other bugs.

  [Test Case]
  After update of libgweather
  1. Ensure org.gnome.Weather.Application locations is not set (as per default
setting)
  2. Disable Location Services
  3. gnome-shell should not crash

  [Regression Potential]
  Low, the patch merely fixes a refcounting bug. Given the high impact of this
bug, this is an important fix.
