[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1698607] [NEW] "Mode" menu is out of place when launched from keyboard shortcut (unity-settings-daemon)
Public bug reported: As similarly reported in Bug #1615408 [1], the "Mode" menu for gnome- calculator appears out of place below the application title bar, however now it only manifests for me when the calculator is launched from the keyboard shortcut. I've seen some circumstances where the calculator is launched with a thick gnome3-style title bar with an integrated mode menu, but under normal circumstances, the calculator has a 'normal' title bar, and has the mode menu in the unity-integrated menu bar. My keyboard has a built-in "calculator" key, but this can be recreated by going to System Settings -> Keyboard -> Shortcuts -> modify the "Launch calculator" to something else (e.g. ctrl-alt-c). Press the shortcut; unity-settings-daemon spawns gnome-calculator with the improperly located Mode menu. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1691486] Re: Mouse cursor jumps to top left corner on click+drag
I admit I don't fully understand how the "Coordinate Transformation Matrix" works (well, especially in the context of a mouse instead of a trackpad or something), but it appears that's the trigger for this issue. After I eliminated that modified Coordinate Transformation Matrix, the dragging/jump issue disappeared. (For anyone else who happens to have the same problem, I was able to solve the mouse hyper-sensitivity issue like this instead: xinput set-prop "Razer Razer DeathAdder" "libinput Accel Speed" "-0.3" xinput set-prop "Razer Razer DeathAdder" "libinput Accel Profile Enabled" 0, 1 Thanks to https://patrickmn.com/aside/lowering-gaming-mouse-sensitivity- in-ubuntu-9-10/ (updated) and http://mouseaccuracy.com/ for helping me decide on a comfortable value.) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1691486 Title: Mouse cursor jumps to top left corner on click+drag Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Since the upgrade to 17.10, when I click and drag something (e.g. moving a file within a folder, or moving an email message within Thunderbird), the mouse pointer (and the dragged item) jumps to the top left corner of the screen. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1698594] [NEW] Kubuntu Installer for 17.04 crashes reproducable with a too small /boot partition due to "No space left on device"
Public bug reported: Hello, i have experienced reproducable crashes of the installer. The problem seems to be that my boot partition is to small. I have a /boot partition of about 100 MB The problem seems to be that the initrd file in the boot partition is very big and cannot be properly updated. Is there a restriction to the size of a /boot partition? 100 MB seems to be way to little, even though the initial installation is possible. But at the end of the installation process the installer crashes. = start -> see full log at the end of the report update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-4.10.0-22-generic gzip: stdout: No space left on device E: mkinitramfs failure cpio 141 gzip 1 = end I used my existing paritions and i would at least expect a warning (hint) that the /boot partition needs to be of a certain size (or just prevents installation with a too small boot partition). [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1034999] Re: libreoffice-calc very slow to open/save documents with large cell contents
To narrow down the source(s) of the issue I further tested. Confirming the lag is both correlated with the number of lines and exponential with the number of lines. With these latest tests the lag per action ranges from ~2 seconds with 129 lines to more than 13+ minutes lag with 940+ lines, and so on and exponential. Test results and steps to reproduce in comment 12 at https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=108560#c12 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to libreoffice in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1034999 Title: libreoffice-calc very slow to open/save documents with large cell contents Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Libreoffice-calc 3.6 takes a long time (30sec to minutes) to open/save spreadsheets containing cells with a lot of content. This is a regression from libreoffice 3.5 in 12.04 (tested with 1:3.5.4-0ubuntu1) To reproduce: 1) Open the attached spreadsheet, which contains 1 cell with ~4k characters in it Expected results: Spreadsheet opens quickly (<2sec on my 2.4Ghz Core2Duo w/ SSD) Actual results: Libreoffice splash screen shows, libreoffice window is displayed as a gray rectangle with no content, and libreoffice window then becomes unresponsive. CPU usage is at 100% on one core. The system stays in this state for ~30sec. The document eventually opens and libreoffice functions normally. Saving documents with lots of data in a cell takes just as long as opening/reading those documents, with similar symptoms - libreoffice becomes unresponsive, one CPU core is at full utilization, etc. The amount of text in the cell is directly correlated to the length of time required to open/save the doc. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1689825] Re: gnome-keyring not unlocked on boot
I agree with comments #25 and #26. It's likely a red herring, but this issue arose for me right after I installed the flatpak PPA and a pile of mono/M$ stuff. I still figure that those actions are orthogonal, but just in case everyone else recently installed similar stuff or a new PPA or... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-keyring in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1689825 Title: gnome-keyring not unlocked on boot Status in chromium-browser package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in gnome-keyring package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in libgnome-keyring package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: 1) Release: 16.04.2 2) gnome-keyring: 3.18.3-0ubuntu2 3) Login. gnome-keyring unlocks "login" features including for google chrome 4) gnome-keyring is not unlocked, chrome takes 2 minutes to open and with no secure password features(sync) functioning. For the past couple days, chrome on Ubuntu 16.04 takes a REALLY long time (maybe 2 minutes) to start. Once chrome is started, I am not able to sync and any secure password features are broken. I found out this is due to gnome-keyring not being unlocked at login. There's also no way to unlock the "login" portion of the keyring from the running daemon by default. I have to kill the gnome-keyring process and start without "--login" as a parameter. Then the "login" section shows up which I'm able to unlock. From there chrome starts up instantly but asks the following: Enter password to unlock your login keyring The login keyring did not get unlocked when you logged into your computer After that, all of it's sync and secure features are functional. Starting google-chrome-stable from a command line at boot without running the above workaround shows the following error messages: Gkr-Message: secret service operation failed: Did not receive a reply. Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy. Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find. ** Information type changed from Private Security to Public -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to libmad in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1698550 Title: package libmad0:amd64 0.15.1b-8ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: package is in a very bad inconsistent state; you should reinstall it before attempting configuration Status in libmad package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Siempre seucede cada vez que voy a descargagar o instalar un programa o actualizacion ProblemType: Package DistroRelease: Ubuntu 17.04 Package: libmad0:amd64 0.15.1b-8ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.10.0-22.24-generic 4.10.15 Uname: Linux 4.10.0-22-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: wl ApportVersion: 2.20.4-0ubuntu4.1 AptOrdering: libnm-util2:amd64: Install libnm-glib-vpn1:amd64: Install libnm-glib4:amd64: Install libnm0:amd64: Install NULL: ConfigurePending Architecture: amd64 Date: Sat Jun 17 10:37:07 2017 Dependencies: gcc-6-base 6.3.0-12ubuntu2 libc6 2.24-9ubuntu2 libgcc1 1:6.3.0-12ubuntu2 multiarch-support 2.24-9ubuntu2 DuplicateSignature: package:libmad0:amd64:0.15.1b-8ubuntu1 Processing triggers for libc-bin (2.24-9ubuntu2) ... dpkg: error processing package libmad0:amd64 (--configure): package is in a very bad inconsistent state; you should ErrorMessage: package is in a very bad inconsistent state; you should reinstall it before attempting configuration InstallationDate: Installed on 2017-06-16 (1 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 17.04 "Zesty Zapus" - Release amd64 (20170412) RelatedPackageVersions: dpkg 1.18.10ubuntu2 apt 1.4 SourcePackage: libmad Title: package libmad0:amd64 0.15.1b-8ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: package is in a very bad inconsistent state; you should reinstall it before attempting configuration UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libmad/+bug/1698550/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1696965] Re: First renderer process doesn't render page for chromium 59.0.3071.86 in KVM
Version 59.0.3068.0 is not affected. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to chromium-browser in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1696965 Title: First renderer process doesn't render page for chromium 59.0.3071.86 in KVM Status in chromium-browser package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Chromium 59.0.3071.86 was promoted to the stable release channel earlier this week, and I have built packages for all supported ubuntu releases at https://launchpad.net/~osomon/+archive/ubuntu/chromium- stable. While they seem to work well on bare metal and in virtualbox virtual machines, we are seeing an issue in KVM guests (e.g. Ubuntu 16.04.2): when launched, the page in the first tab is not rendered at all (the contents remain blank). Refreshing the page doesn't make things any better. But browsing to a different domain in the same tab "fixes" the issue. All URLs are affected: the default URL when opening the browser for the first time is chrome://welcome, and it's not rendered, and so aren't other http URLs when passed on the command line. It looks like the first renderer process is not able to render to screen correctly. The renderer process itself looks okay, it doesn't crash, and I haven't seen anything relevant in the verbose logs. The official google chrome release on the same configuration is not affected, so this problem is specific to our chromium-browser packages. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1034999] Re: libreoffice-calc very slow to open/save documents with large cell contents
Here are more test results with LibreOffice (LO) using the attached file "lorem_ipsum---Francewhoa---2017-06-15.txt" • With LO 4.2 Francewhoa was NOT able to reproduce • With LO 5.0.0.5 Telesto was NOT able to reproduce • With LO 5.0.6.3 Telesto was ABLE to reproduce • With LO 5.2.7.2 Francewhoa was ABLE to reproduce • With LO 6.0.0.0.alpha0+ Telesto was ABLE to reproduce So it seems something was introduce between 5.0.0.5 and 5.0.6.3. Which in turn cause the slow performance. The main difference between the files attached in comment #1 above and the file attached to this comment #18 is their length. 129 lines compare to 235 lines. So somehow the lag is triggered when the cell content is between 130 and 235 lines. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1034999] Re: libreoffice-calc very slow to open/save documents with large cell contents
I can't reproduce this with LibreOffice 5.3.1.2 on Ubuntu 17.04 64 bit using the file attached to comment #1 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to libreoffice in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1034999 Title: libreoffice-calc very slow to open/save documents with large cell contents Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Libreoffice-calc 3.6 takes a long time (30sec to minutes) to open/save spreadsheets containing cells with a lot of content. Is there any more information specifically that we should provide that would help to point out the root cause of this problem? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-keyring in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1697268 Title: gnome-keyring fails to store and serve passwords Status in gnome-keyring package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I was affected by this problem about 1 month ago. From user perspective, password stored in gnome-keyring stopped working for me. Not sure if connected, but I also observed, that in seahorse, there is no possibility to add password (only ssh / gpg keys and certificates). Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1696965] Re: First renderer process doesn't render page for chromium 59.0.3071.86 in KVM
Version 59.0.3067.0 is not affected, version 59.0.3069.0 is affected. There are 757 commits in that window. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1689825] Re: gnome-keyring not unlocked on boot
Hans' observation that this is not impacting all of his machines is consistent with my experience of this issue. I have three Ubuntu machines and this is only impacting one of them. It is driving me nuts because the machine that is impacted is my main laptop. My server and my test machine which would be less of an issue to me as they don't get booted so often are working fine. A classic example of Murphy's Law. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-keyring in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1689825 Title: gnome-keyring not unlocked on boot Status in chromium-browser package in Ubuntu: New Status in gnome-keyring package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in libgnome-keyring package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: 1) Release: 16.04.2 2) gnome-keyring: 3.18.3-0ubuntu2 3) Login. gnome-keyring unlocks "login" features including for google chrome 4) gnome-keyring is not unlocked, chrome takes 2 minutes to open and with no secure password features(sync) functioning. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1698501] Re: Please package a version of Firefox without SSE2
In Bug 1697800 Seth Arnold points out that the upgrade tools are not in a position to check architecture features before installation. While I don't know the best (least worst?) solution, here are some ideas. Option A) Compile the SSE2 parts of Firefox in a separate library and place it in /usr/lib/sse2/. I have read that the Linux kernel already searches that directory first on processors that support that feature. A solution using libraries would make sense as it's how we already handle similar situations of binaries that only work on certain types of hardware (e.g., graphics cards, 32bit/64bit). This might require working with the Mozilla folks to convince them to isolate the code. Option B) Create a new package "firefox-i686" (for processors without SSE2), rename the current firefox to "firefox-i786", and then make "firefox" a meta-package that picks the right one. I don't know enough about meta-packages to know if this is actually feasible. Option C) Create a new dpkg architecture "i686" which will only contain binaries that can actually run on 686 class processors. Rename "i386" to "i786" to reflect reality. While tedious to implement and perhaps a redundant use of disk space for 99.9% of the binaries, it is fairly straightforward to do and is perhaps the "correct" solution. Option D) Add a new APT repository such as "xenial-i686". This is similar to (c) but lazier. The xenial-i686 repository would contain very few programs, just the ones, like Firefox, that had to be compiled differently than the ones already supplied in the standard repository. This has the downside that there is no way to indicate to the end user when a package is not available at all for the i686. It is also perhaps a misuse of repositories when that's what architectures are for. Option E) Bite the bullet and rewrite the package tools to handle ABIs that are nearly, but not quite, identical. This would be handy as we approach programs that require SSE3, SSE4, SSE4.1, etc. I don't know what this would look like, but I presume it'd require a lot of discussion first. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to firefox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1698501 Title: Please package a version of Firefox without SSE2 Status in firefox package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: As has been noted in Bug 1697800, Firefox now dies on machines which Ubuntu still supports (i686). This is a critical problem as Firefox was the only modern web browser that did not require the SSE2 extensions and Ubuntu has committed to long term support for machines without SSE2. While Bug 1697800 is dealing with the urgent matter of Ubuntu systems breaking right now, I'm filing this bug to request a long term solution. According to Mozilla's Support page (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/your-hardware-no-longer- supported): "The processor requirements of Firefox as distributed by Linux distributions may differ from the processor requirements of Firefox as distributed by Mozilla, so you may be able to obtain an up-to-date version of Firefox that does not require SSE2 from your Linux distribution." I don't know how hard this would be, but could the Ubuntu-Mozilla Team please look into compiling a version of Firefox that does not require SSE2? Thank you.
