Under glibc 2.24, they work. It maybe comes from glibc226's new feature, i.e. "128-bit floating point as defined by ISO/IEC/IEEE 60559:2011 (IEEE 754-2008) and ISO/IEC TS 18661-3:2015" . (Evidence Scripted at bottom) I proposed the patch to /usr/include/x86_64-linux-gnu/bits/floatn.h which lets NVCC (CUDA's compiler) avoid __float128 (NVCC does support neither 8.0 nor 9.0). Still the same on Xubuntu / Ubuntu 17.04. There are a few places to set which is the primary display, but they are useseless. I have the option in nVidia Settings and Display in Settings. None help. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1683383] Re: Keyboard layout change on hotkeys press instead of release and do not work well with shortcuts (reopen)
** Changed in: xorg-server Status: In Progress => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1683383 Title: Keyboard layout change on hotkeys press instead of release and do not work well with shortcuts (reopen) Status in X.Org X server: Confirmed Status in xorg-server package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: This is a reopen of bug #36812, which has reappeared in Kubuntu 17.04 Zesty Zapus. This is a bug about shortcuts mapped to combinations which include each other. For example, if we have Ctrl+Shift (for keyboard layout) and Ctrl+Shift+N (to open a new terminal), then we are practically unable to use the second shortcut; this is what happens: Ctrl press (nothing happens) Shift press (keyboard layout change) N (a simple N appears, since a shortcut has already fired) The expected behavior is to fire shortcuts on the release (not on press) of the special keys (ctrl, shift, alt, etc) which is also how Windows behave. This is a serious problem for bilingual layouts, typically using Alt+Shift or Ctrl+Shift for keyboard layout change. Apparently, the bug has reappeared after the patch that used to fix the problem (208_switch_on_release.diff) has been removed from X.Org 1.19 packages. There is an updated patch in the upstream ticket https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=865 (link to the attachment: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=129861). Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal: sudo apt-get clean Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a memory test. Thanks in advance! There is an issue with non-latin keyboard layouts that the keys under F or O (for Alt+F and Ctrl+O respectively) would correspond to some other character. What should happen then? There is some smart functionality (at least in the GTK+ library) that when we press a shortcut, it will try to make Alt+F or Ctrl+O work, even if the active keyboard layout is not English. For this smart functionality to work, it requires us to have as first keyboard layout the English (en) layout. Then, GTK+ will be able to check whether the shortcut makes sense for English, and if so, will run it. All that even if the active layout is Greek or Russian or something else. This report has over 300 comments and these comments include all sort of corner cases that indeed shortcuts do not work. In general, shortcuts work, but in specific cases there are issues that need to be fixed. What we need to do, is collect those corner cases and create new separate reports. Here are the corner cases: 1. In Dash (in Unity 7), shortcuts like Super+S/W work (for example, Greek, Russian), but they do not work for Super+A/F/M/C/V. Report: 2. Java GUI applications on Linux do not support shortcuts in non-latin languages. This is an issue with Java and should be reported there. Java GUI apps are not included in any of the Ubuntu ISOs. Report: 3. Shortcuts that use Ctrl on LibreOffice work for several languages (like Greek, Russian), but has been reported not to work on Hebrew. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1720649] Re: broken gnome expirience caused by unity-compatible patch
It doesn't matter witch session I use. This bug concerns UBUNTU DEFAULT SESSION. I dont know, why you cannot understand this. I even provide info about patch, which should be disabled to fix this. Once again: 1. Start ubuntu. 2. Install gnome-tweak-tool. 3. Disable "Application Menu" in "Top Bar". 4. NOTICE, THAT IS STILL UBUNTU DEFAULT SESSION 5. Start Rhythmbox. See the menubar. See the settings gear icon. All menubar options accessible through gear icon. Menubar should go away. One thing I'm not sure about - if ubuntu comes with enabled alternative- toolbar plugin by default (if it is - its a mistake, because position slider buggy in this plugin) - you should disable it. If you still has problems with understanding this bug, pleas, contact Daniel van Vugt (vanvugt), he understood whats wrong in similar bug (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/totem/+bug/1720654). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1720649 Title: broken gnome expirience caused by unity-compatible patch Status in rhythmbox package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Standard gnome behavior doesn't allow to draw rhythmbox menubar, because all the controls are available through the "settings (gear) button". Ubuntu 17.10 draws menu, because of unity-compatible patch, you should remove it, to provide true gnome expirience. Menubar is bloatware. Problem occurs if you disable top bar application menu in Gnome Tweaks, and start Rhythmbox after that. See attached screenshot. Please, remove menubar patch. Ubuntu 17.10, rhythmbox-3.4.1-2ubuntu5. You should also check other Gnome apps!!! AFAIK, Totem, default video player also has some patch like this, and you even cant hide menubar in fullscreen mode (!). I'm using mpv, so i dont care. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1722286] Re: Same action is forced for lid-close on AC and lid-close on battery
I'm attaching a proof of concept python script that restores the behaviour (in case it's useful to others). The script should be launched as: systemd-inhibit --who=me --why=because --mode=block --what=handle-lid-switch /path/to/custom_suspend.py from the session startup (gnome-session-properties) This is public domain and only lightly tested. It relies on existing gnome/systemd commands to perform the underlying action ** Attachment added: "custom_suspend.py" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/1722286/+attachment/4970889/+files/custom_suspend.py -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1722286 Title: Same action is forced for lid-close on AC and lid-close on battery Status in gnome-settings-daemon package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Note: I'm flagging this as a bug in gnome-settings-daemon, but the program itself is not buggy. It's rather the usage of this program instead of unity-settings-daemon in ubuntu 17.10 that causes a system regression. --- Up to and including Ubuntu 17.04, unity-settings-daemon was used to managed suspend policy in the default graphic session (Unity). Unity-settings-daemon is a fork of (an old version of) gnome-settings-daemon. Now that gnome-shell is the default environment, session management is handled by gnome-settings-daemon. In particular, the action to perform when the lid is closed is handled by the gsd-power plugin of gnome-settings-daemon (as it was by unity-settings-daemon). With unity-settings-daemon, two dconf keys where honored (lid-close- ac-action and lid-close-battery-action, under org/gnome/settings- daemon/power ) to specify what action are performed when the user closes the laptop lid, depending on whether the laptop is plugged or on battery. In Ubuntu 17.10, gnome-settings-daemon ignore those settings (unless their value is 'ignore') and delegate actions to systemd-logind. The latter has no knowledge on whether the laptop is plugged or not and apply the same action regardless. This is a regression in a useful (and I believe popular) functionality. It is common to want the laptop to suspend when unplugged but expecting it to remain running when plugged (I believe this is the default on MacOS and windows and both system can be configured to distinguish between on-AC and on-Battery). The functionality can be restored with a bit of sweat with either hooks for acpid (or maybe a session script using the gnome framework to detect events and apply the correct policy, acpid-scripts run as root), but this is clearly not something the average user should have to tinker with. At the *very least* release note should advertise this regression (as a new feature ?) but ideally provide a compatibility layer to restore this functionality. I had one crash after applying this yesterday (and rebooting): it crashed right out to the console, not even to the login screen, and when I tried logging in again the session failed to start. But since a second reboot it's apparently been fine. This bug went away, and so too has my bug #1720149 (so far anyway, I don't seem able to reproduce it now, although saying so will doubtless trigger it next time I let the displays sleep). I can't explain that first crash, but as I also can't repeat it, I guess we ignore it for now. This in Gnome in Xorg under nVidia 387, modeset=0. xorg sessions seem unable to start with modeset=1 btw. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1717170 Title: gnome-shell crashes with SIGABRT: mutter:ERROR:backends/meta-monitor- manager.c:2274:meta_monitor_manager_get_logical_monitor_from_number: assertion failed: ((unsigned int) number < g_list_length (manager->logical_monitors)) Status in GNOME Shell: Fix Released Status in Mutter: Fix Released Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in mutter package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: https://errors.ubuntu.com/problem/a9ace2e3301009e3a5344f8dac4e56fc4c23b1b8 --- I'm testing Ubuntu 17.10 installed on Lenovo PC (with Intel Core i5-6500 CPU and Intel HD Graphics 530 (skylake GT2). Under glibc 2.24, they work. It maybe comes from glibc226's new feature, i.e. "128-bit floating point as defined by ISO/IEC/IEEE 60559:2011 (IEEE 754-2008) and ISO/IEC TS 18661-3:2015" . This daemon is installed as part of the default system. #36498 is no longer adequate for modern usage. Copying a couple of megs of .ZIP for local extraction is passable, but it is completely unworkable when dealing with GB of remote .rar set. file-roller should be intelligent enough to spot a "protocol://servername/path/to/file" prefix on a filename coming in from Nautilus or wherever and automatically switch to opening "~/.gvfs/protocol on servername/path/to/file" instead. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1723589] [NEW] Incorrect battery charge and discharge times on Thinkpad 410
Public bug reported: The battery charge/discharge times are way off using Ubuntu 17.10. My battery is old, but it should still be good for about 60 minutes of usage. ** Changed in: xorg-server Status: Won't Fix => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/36812 Title: Keyboard layout change on hotkeys press instead of release and do not work well with shortcuts Status in gnome-control-center: Unknown Status in X.Org X server: Confirmed Status in gnome-control-center package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in xorg-server package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: This is a bug about shortcuts mapped to combinations which include each other. For users being affected by this problem, the easiest solution for now is to add this PPA in your repositories: https://launchpad.net/~oded-geek/+archive/xorg-patches Practical summary of this bug for ubuntu developers (since reading 120 comments is impractical for most): This problem is a really old (since 2004) issue of the xkb part of xorg; the main discussion was made upstream in freedesktop-bugs #865. There has been a patch from Ilya Murav'jov for upstream (#55), and attached here (#61). Upstream xorg has refused to apply the patch, mainly because it "explicitly contradicts the (xkb) spec" (#84, #91). This patch has been reported to work for many people without any problems, and there is also a PPA by Oded Arbel (#95) where he maintains a patched version of the ubuntu xorg. The proper resolution of this bug would be to apply this patch to the upstream xorg, or at minimum to the official ubuntu xorg package.
