[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1828102] Re: Regression in ModemManager

2019-07-20 Thread Mathew Hodson
For Bionic, this bug was fixed in the package modemmanager -

modemmanager (1.10.0-1~ubuntu18.04.2) bionic; urgency=medium

  [Impact]

ModemManager disconnects from CDMA modem after 30 sec failing to check
signal status due to incorrect error handling

  [Test case]

connect to a cdma device without an extra AT channel (Eg. Samsung
brightside phone) and modemmanager will terminate the connection

  [Regression potential]

The patch is tiny, fixing an obvious overlook, and it only affects
CDMA broadband modems, so the risk of a regression is very low.

  [Original description]

  ModemManager disconnects after ~30 sec

caused by a typo in 1.8

  see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/modemmanager/+bug/1819615
  and
  https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mobile-broadband/ModemManager/issues/119

Bug description:
  [Impact]

These are needed for 18.04.3 images.

  [Test case]

Boot a daily image, see that it still has the necessary stack
  installed and working.

  Check upgrade from stock bionic.

  [Regression potential]

libdrm: very minimal chance for regressions

llvm-8: a new package, no regression potential on it's own

libclc: more or less just adds support for new llvm

mesa: a new major release, but we'll pull the final stable release of
19.0.x series, so there shouldn't be any regressions left at that
  point

  xserver: a new minor release

xorg drivers: modest updates, mainly just new ati/amdgpu

systemd-resolved breaks VPN with split-horizon DNS

Status in NetworkManager:
  Unknown
Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in network-manager source package in Zesty:
  Won't Fix
Status in network-manager source package in Artful:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * NetworkManager incorrectly handles dns-priority of the VPN-like
connections, which leads to leaking DNS queries outside of the VPN
  into the general internet.

   * Upstream has resolved this issue in master and 1.8 to correctly
configure any dns backends with negative dns-priority settings.

  [Test Case]

  #FIXME#

   * detailed instructions how to reproduce the bug

   * these should allow someone who is not familiar with the affected
package to reproduce the bug and verify that the updated package fixes
 the problem.

  #FIXME#

  [Regression Potential]

   * If this issue is changed DNS resolution will change, for certain
queries, to go via VPN rather than general internet. And therefore,
one may get new/different results or even loose access to
resolve/access certain parts of the interent depending on what the DNS
server on VPN chooses to respond to.

  [Other Info]

   * Original bug report

I use a VPN configured with network-manager-openconnect-gnome in which
a split-horizon DNS setup assigns different addresses to some names
inside the remote network than the addresses seen for those names from
outside the remote network. However, systemd-resolved often decides
to ignore the VPN’s DNS servers and use the local network’s DNS
servers to resolve names (whether in the remote domain or not),
  breaking the split-horizon DNS.

This related bug, reported by Lennart Poettering himself, was closed with the
current Fedora release at the time reaching EOL:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1826604] Re: Extension causes saving files to desktop to be slow

2019-07-20 Thread Matt Lu
On my systems, this bug also affected saving files from firefox, regardless of
the destination!
This is not about the time for downloading, I'm talking about ~1 kB files.

On one machine, it took 4-5 seconds saving such files to any location
(not just the desktop), on the other it took over 2 seconds. After
renaming the extension, saving from firefox happened instantly again on
both machines.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1809407] Re: [nvidia] Corrupted wallpaper after resuming from suspend or hibernation

2019-07-20 Thread Francisco Lopes
@vanvugt can this fix be backported to gnome-3-32 branch? I just talked
to the package maintainer in Arch repos and they said 3.33.4 is odd
numbered, hence not a stable release, so we would have to wait for 3.34,
but given how this is affecting many people I wished it sooner rather
than later. They said they track 3.32, so if it gets backported, the
package registry will pick it.

2019-07-20 Thread guest271314
Fixed.

Using status = await handle . requestPermission({ writable = true }) which
requires granting permission at two consectutive prompts

1) "Let sites read this folder";
2) "Save changes to original files"

Additionally, substituted removeEntry() for remove().

unity-menubar.patch+global menu plasmoid+CSD causing inconsistant UI
  under KDE

Status in firefox package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Without unity-menubar.patch, aka. an official binary build of firefox
wouldn't export its traditional menu to global menu plasmoid, nor the
  unity menu addon.

The applied patch works fine on its purpose: to export the menu to a
global retriever, whether the DE is.

However, it fails to stay the browser consist when Mozilla introduced
native client-side decoration (CSD) support on KDE.

When we don't use global menu plasmoid but disable titlebar (enable CSD), the
window stays slim, and the tab bar stay tightly on top of the window left to
the window control icons, but when we add the global menu plasmoid, the window
gives a blank area where there is the window control icons on top right, then
the opened tab bar. IMHO, it should stay on top like there is no the menu
holder plasmoid.

Title:
unity-menubar.patch+global menu plasmoid+CSD causing inconsistant UI

Title:
unity-menubar.patch+global menu plasmoid+CSD causing inconsistant UI

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1837289] Re: yes

2019-07-20 Thread Paul White
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:

1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Thanks!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 978755] Re: Totem shows no "Play Disc" in "Movie" menu

2019-07-20 Thread Paul White
In new interface "Play/Pause" is in main drop-down menu
and "Eject" is in the hamburger menu.

Checked with totem 3.32.0 and Ubuntu 19.10 (dev)

Closing as bug report refers to the old interface and there are
no comments re the new interface which was introduced several
years ago.

But when I run Totem, there is no "Play Disc" in "Movie" menu.

"Eject" is also grayed out, ...

Simply - Totem ignores my DVD as would not exist.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 488436] Re: At the end of a playlist totem re-opens the first file causing it to be displayed as the most recent played

2019-07-20 Thread Paul White
Upstream bug was closed "RESOLVED FIXED" on 2012-07-15 and
refers to the old interface.

Tested version 3.32.0 in Ubuntu 19.10 (dev). No conventional
playlist now but although the first file is displayed after
the last file is played it is not added to the the "Recent"
file list in nautilus. totem no longer has a recent file list
or file menu so closing this as fixed.

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: totem

When totem reaches the end of a playlist it re-opens the first file of
the playlist to display its first frame. This causes the first file of
the playlist to be wrongly acknowledged as the most recent played
  file.

  Example:
If I open totem and add three files A, B and C to the playlist in that order,
and play this hole playlist I would expect the files to be displayed in the
most recent menu in the following order (both on gnome "Places > Recent
Documents" and on totem's "File" menu:

  Recent Documents:
  C
  B
  A

But, because A is re-open at the end of the playback (to display its
first frame), the recent documents ends up like this:

  Recent Documents:
  A
  C
  B

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 792615] Re: always the same first file played in random mode

2019-07-20 Thread Paul White
Upstream bug closed "RESOLVED FIXED" on 2014-01-23.

Tested "Shuffle" mode using version 3.32.0 on Ubuntu 19.10.

No conventional playlist in the new interface but using a
small set of files the Shuffle button does cause a different
file to be played first unlike the Play button.

So closing this as fixed.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1837284] [NEW] Initial installation does not allow high graphics resolution. Requires disabling Wayland and using Nvidia proprietary driver.

2019-07-20 Thread Predrag Bokšić
Public bug reported:

1. Booting the system from USB 3.0 stick does not show any indication of
graphics problems.

2. Upon the installation to a hard drive, the graphics resolution is
below standard and cannot be changed in the system settings.

3. By installing the Nvidia driver and rebooting the system, I find that
there is no graphics desktop available; apparently, level 5 was not
fully reached. There is a workaround for this. I can try to press
CTRL+F2 and then CTRL+F1 and the high-resolution graphical desktop
becomes apparent. Switching terminals allows me to go to the graphical
session.

4. Disabling Wayland in the appropriate configuration file allows the
system to become fully functional.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1828728] Re: White corners when CSD is enabled on Firefox

2019-07-20 Thread Radu Balaban
The workaround above (gfx.webrender.all = true) does help a bit, but
does not fully solve the issue. The shadow of the window is shaped by a
rectangle (and so the corners are still visible over a light background)
and, in addition, there is a 'see-through' line in the application
window, below the address bar (you can see the text behind the window).

When selecting a Library Location to import photos to in the
preferences, it will display the wrong folder under certain
  circumstances.

For example, if you want to set the location to ~/foobar/pictures,
you click "other..." and in the file-chooser dialog, double-click the
"foobar" folder, then highlight the "pictures" folder and click
"open", shotwell will display your choice, and the Library Location
will be displayed as "pictures". But if you close the preferences
window, and reopen it again, you will see that "foobar" is now listed
  as the Library Location.

To actually select the "pictures" folder, you have to double click on
the pictures folder from the file chooser dialog, and then click
"open". Showell will now display the exact same thing it did in the
earlier case, only this time the setting "sticks" properly, and this
can be verified by closing the preferences and opening it again and
seeing that it has not changed.

Bug description:
  [ Description ]

On my eaon system, closing any dialog in CLion (a Java program, which
might be relevant) results in GNOME Shell hanging. I believe this to
be a recent (in the last week or so, maybe?) regression.

  [ Test case ]

   $ sudo snap install clion
   - Start clion, open a file
   - Hit Ctrl+Shift+F
   - Select Directory -> Click "..." to select the path
   - Hit OK / Cancel
   - The dialog should show and the shell should be responsive

  [ Regression potential ]

The wrong window or no window is focused when a window is destroyed.

Bug description:
  [ Description ]

GNOME Shell crashes during tear-down when some window is anymating
  under X11.

  [ Test case ]

This test doesn't work 100% of the cases, so for proper checks we can
  still monitor the e.u.c reports.

Run this script in a terminal (needs apt install wmctrl):

active=$(wmctrl -l | head -n1 | cut -f1 -d' '); \
  while true; \
  do wmctrl -ir $active -b remove,maximized_vert,maximized_horz && \
  sleep 0.4 && wmctrl -ir $active -b add,maximized_vert,maximized_horz; \
  sleep 0.4; done

While the app is maximizing/unmaximixing, do:
- Alt+f2 -> write: "debugexit" and press enter.

GNOME Shell should exit without crashing.

  [ Regression potential ]

Windows animation doesn't work properly when a window is destroyed.
