[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1969315] Re: text in torrent info tabs change after opening it to gibberish

2022-12-10 Thread tlk
Funny, I just came back to post that after all I've come to think it's
something to do the way platform (GTK et al) libs are built in Ubuntu
(Debian too?).

Because for me even the Arch binary exibits (on 22.04) the same broken
behaviour.

BTW after this bug is "initiated" (by opening the torrent props window),
even the GTK File chooser shows these misplaced labels all over it.

Title:
kinetic.xml has wrong filename for a wallpaper

Status in ubuntu-wallpapers package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in ubuntu-wallpapers source package in Kinetic:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  * Impact
One of the kinetic wallpapers is incorrectly referenced in the xml definition
which makes the image not used by the slideshow

  * Test case
Selected the kinetic slideshow in the backgrounds settings, it should
alternate through every image in the set including
Twisted_Gradients_by_Gustavo_Brenner

  * Regression potential
The change update filename is the xml definition, check that the background
settings correct lists the images and that the slideshow works as expected

  ---

In the kinetic wallpaper package, the kinetic.xml file that handles
the rotating background has the wrong filename for
  "/usr/share/backgrounds/Twisted_Gradients_by_Gustavo_Brenner.png". It
uses ".jpg" instead of the correct ".png" extension.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1999207] Re: Error in dead key management of latin keyboards

2022-12-10 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
I also tested on Xubuntu 22.10, which I happen to have access to. The
reason is that I there (unlike on GNOME) can disable ibus completely.

Using the Mozilla tool you linked to, and with ibus disabled, I get:

compositionstart:
compositionend:

in the event log (even if the û character is shown as expected).

Then I enabled ibus, and got this in the event log:

compositionstart:
compositionupdate: ^
compositionupdate: û
compositionend: û

So ibus is indeed involved somehow, but not (for me) in a way that
results in an issue.

Title:
Error in dead key management of latin keyboards

Status in ibus package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Composition events are incorrect in Ubuntu 22.04 for latin keyboard

I opened an issue at Firefox
  [here](https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1802989) that
gives all the details, but they diagnosed a bug in ubuntu-ibus

To reproduce the issue, you can go
  [here](https://developer.mozilla.org/en-
  US/docs/Web/API/Element/compositionstart_event#result) and type ^+u
  with a fr+latin9 keayboard configuration.

Here is the conclusion on the bug report:

Ubuntu-ibus commits dead key sequence with empty string first, then,
sends only commit string without "composing" state. The latter
behavior is a usual case for inputting non-ASCII characters like
Emojis. In this case, browsers need to handle it without composition
for compatibility between browsers. Therefore, we cannot represent the
composed character insertion as a set of composition events. Anyway,
dispatching 2 set of composition events for one dead key sequence may
cause trouble in web apps. Therefore, as expected, the first
composition should update the "preedit string" to the composed string
  and commit it simply.

The bug was reproduced with installing Ubuntu 22.04 with English
locale and adding "French (alt., Latin-9 only)" keyboard layout. And
also reproduced with the other Western keyboard layouts which have
  dead keys.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1999207] Re: Error in dead key management of latin keyboards

2022-12-10 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Thanks for your report. I can't reproduce it, though.

Whether the layout is "French (alt., Latin-9 only)" or "Swedish" I can
type the dead_circumflex symbol followed by u, and get û. For me that
works also with Firefox.

Which physical keys are you using to type dead_circumflex? To access
that symbol on "French (alt., Latin-9 only)" I need to hold
+ while pressing the key to the very right at the third
row (to the left of the Return key).

** Changed in: ibus (Ubuntu)

And
also reproduced with the other Western keyboard layouts which have
  dead keys.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1999308] [NEW] Snap keeps uninstalling apt Firefox, and reinstalling snap Firefox

2022-12-10 Thread Paul Harrison
Public bug reported:

I have looked on various forums including the search features of
Launchpad, help.ubuntu..com, and Google for answers on this but not been
able to.

I have uninstalled the snap of firefox multiple times, installing the real
Firefox from ppa.launchpadcontent.net/mozillateam/ppa/ubuntu/, only for a
few days later (once hours later) for snap to uninstall the real thing and
install its snap version instead.

I have tried a basic
   sudo snap remove firefox

and when that didn't work
   sudo snap disable firefox
   sudo snap remove --purget firefox

The former should be enough - that's a direct expression of my preferences,
some thing like "You should have typed sudo snap remove --do-not-reinstall
--disable-auto-ignore-preferences firefox" would not resolve this bug.

When installing using apt-get, the correct version is being installed, and
snap afterwards does not show the presence of firefox:

https://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/2021/10/prevent-installing-firefox-snap-ubuntu-mate-21-10/
claims that a similar issue affects Ubuntu MATE 21.04 and the solution was
to type "sudo apt-mark manual firefox", which I have done, but that has not
resolved the problem.

I'm not here to explain why I wouldn't want the snap version, it is clearly
a bug for snap to accept a command to uninstall something and then
automatically reinstall it days later without the permission of the user,
and especially galling that it removes the real version at the same time.

I have lost data (passwords and history) because of this bug, because one
of the many faults of the snap version is that it ignores the user's real
~/.mozilla profile and creates a shadow profile instead inside of the snap
system.

Please disable this behavior. It's obnoxious, it ignores EXPLICITY stated
user preferences, and it causes the loss of data.

I am unclear on what package is causing the behavior so for now marking it
against Firefox, but it could be against some other piece of infrastructure
related to snap:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1999299] [NEW] filename cannot be changed in the "save" dialogue

2022-12-10 Thread Tomohiro Hashizume
Public bug reported:

Minimum required condition for recreation.

Ubuntu 20.04
kernel 5.15.0-53-generic
Model XPS-13
Chrome 07.0.5304.121 (Official Build) (64-bit)

NOTE: that this occurs not just in chrome, but any application that uses
the system's default save dialogue.

For example, in Google Chrome, I press Control-S to save a webpage. When
doing so, a save dialogue appears for specifying the name and directory
of the file.

When I press any key to modify the name of a file, a letter is inserted
into a search window instead of the filename section.

It occurs in any web browsers or software which use this system's
default save dialogue for specifying a filename and directory.

I thought it is a bug in the filesystem (Nautilus). I'm reporting it
here.
