Title:
  CriticalPowerAction=Suspend should be supported

Status in Upower:
  New
Status in upower package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
The action to take when the battery is critical can only be one of the
  following:

  # Possible values are:
  # PowerOff
  # Hibernate
  # HybridSleep

Adding Suspend to that list makes perfect sense. My laptop is
currently powering off on low power which is useless as I'll be losing
my work anyway. Might as well suspend and allow me to notice that and
connect a charger. If the thinking is that suspend uses power I can
set a high enough threshold to give me some margin.

  The failovers are:

  # If HybridSleep isn't available, Hibernate will be used
  # If Hibernate isn't available, PowerOff will be used

I'd argue Suspend should actually come before PowerOff in that list.
For most laptop users having their computer suspend because they
didn't notice the battery was running out is very easy to fix and
takes no time. They'll just connect the charger. If however the
computer needs to be completely rebooted, not only does that take a
lot more time it will very likely cause lost work.

  worked in 7.10).

There is not grouping or sorting by language , (I can see some sorting
in Open Office Writer - character ...)

Please attach the video again with a filename using Latin characters
only. Launchpad can't handle other character sets :(

Please also execute the following command only once, as it will
automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

  apport-collect 2055762

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

I'm using Rhythmbox 3.4.7 and as you can see on the picture bellow, there are
some Unnamed options on Rhythmbox's icon right-click menu:
I've tried to copy org.gnome.Rhythmbox.desktop and
org.gnome.Rhythmbox.device.desktop files data from Rhythmbox's GitLab to
/usr/share/applications (same .desktop files), but nothing has changed.
I guess that something is wrong with [Desktop Action ...] entries
I've found a solution. [Desktop Action ...] entries were missing the Name
properties

  # What you expected to happen

There should not be any unnamed entries in the GNOME dock or left bar
when you right click for the context menu.
  https://askubuntu.com/q/1506260/1004020

  # What happened instead

The 4 unnamed entries appear in Ubuntu GNOME. Oddly they don't appear
in KDE, but this is a GNOME bug either way because Rhythmbox is made
  by GNOME.

  # Analysis

The self-answerer added names for the 4 desktop actions. This appeared
to fix the problem. However, the new names lack localization. One
thing is that the 4 actions will show all the time even if Rhythmbox
is not open. Based on the behaviour on KDE, I think that the GNOME
developers' original intent was to populate the 4 entries using the
running application and hide them otherwise.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2055761] Re: tracker-extract-3 crashed with SIGSYS in epoll_wait()

2024-03-04 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The fix is trivial:

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/tracker-miners/-/merge_requests/511

But it begs the question: Why do we keep having to fix these crashes one
by one over such a long period of time?

Title:
Large Performance Regression in fullscreen windows from Ubuntu Jammy
  to Ubuntu Noble

Status in Mutter:
  Unknown
Status in mutter package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Test system: ARM64 Ubuntu Jammy (gnome-shell 42.9-0ubuntu2) and Ubuntu Noble
(gnome-shell 45.3-1ubuntu1)
Default Ubuntu GNOME desktop environment used with no user added extensions.

GPU driverstack identical between the two distros (eliminated as a variable).
Linux kernel identical between distros (eliminated as a variable)
CPU, GPU, and RAM clocks pinned to max.

Test case: Minecraft Java Edition (shared drive with identical setup
between Ubuntu versions). Fullscreen 1080p. Xorg display server.

  FPS (uncapped):
  Ubuntu Jammy: 177fps
  Ubuntu Noble: 140fps

  Observations:
  Ubuntu Jammy:
gnome-shell process cpu% when camera is still: 0-1%
gnome-shell process cpu% when camera is moving: 10-20%
Memory Bandwidth (CPU and GPU shared): 40%

  Ubuntu Noble:
gnome-shell process cpu% when camera is still: 20-55%
gnome-shell process cpu% when camera is moving: 30-55%
Memory Bandwidth (CPU and GPU shared): 50%

In both cases GPU utilization is observed to be near 100%.

So in summary, large performance regression regression which appears
to be due to gnome-shell. There is nearly no gnome-shell cpu% usage on
ubuntu jammy when there the camera is still (even with a fps graph
drawn onscreen) in stark contrast to ubuntu noble.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1959507] Re: gnome-shell crashed in clutter_actor_get_real_resource_scale() with assertion failed: (guessed_scale >= 1.f)

2024-03-04 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Unless your log mentions "clutter_actor_get_real_resource_scale" or
"guessed_scale", I fear most people will land here by accident. The
reason seems to be that our bots don't adequately distinguish between
different assertion failures, which is bug 1982283.

The log in comment #20 doesn't even seem to be an assertion failure, but
some unknown Xwayland crash/error:

Mar 01 09:49:15 corrado-n2-nn-0220 gnome-shell[1443]: Connection to xwayland
lost
Mar 01 09:49:15 corrado-n2-nn-0220 gnome-shell[1443]: Xwayland terminated,
exiting since it was mandatory

so please open a new bug for that if you can find the /var/crash file
for it.

here so we can investigate further.

Thank you,

The fix fixes an annoying start of playback timing bug that affects my

https://github.com/Psychtoolbox-3/Psychtoolbox-3/issues/814#issuecomment-1723827374
which uses GStreamer for video and audio playback. Psychtoolbox is a
very popular toolkit for neuroscience and related medical research,
with Ubuntu as the recommended target distribution. It requires high
reliability in audio and video presentation timing, so the bug
described in the various links below is serious to our users.

The bug also in the same way affects other media applications in
Ubuntu which play back audio via the default (auto-plugged)
pulseaudiosink GStreamer plugin. See GStreamer bug report
  https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/gstreamer/gstreamer/-/issues/1735). The
GStreamer bug turned out to be a pulseaudio client library bug (in
  libpulse.so.0).

Any native pulseaudio client is affected, even if pipewire is used as
desktop sound server in recent Ubuntu releases, given that many audio
applications still access pipewire via its pulseaudio frontend
  (package pipewire-pulse). See pipewire bug
  https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pipewire/pipewire/-/issues/3399

The bug in libpulse.so.0, reported against Pulseaudio 16 in
  https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pulseaudio/pulseaudio/-/issues/1383 has
been fixed for the Pulseaudio 17 release.

See the following merge request for the following trivial one-liner
patch that would need to be backported to Ubuntu's current
  implementation:

https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pulseaudio/pulseaudio/-/merge_requests/745/diffs

I hoped that Pulseaudio 17 would be included in Debian in time for
integration into Ubuntu 24.04-LTS, but apparently not much maintenance
of pulseaudio is happening on the Debian side at the moment.

Given that this bug affects all Ubuntu versions since Ubuntu
22.04-LTS, I'd ask kindly for a backport, ideally for Pulseaudio
15.99.1 in 22.04-LTS and Pulseaudio 16.1 in upcoming 24.04-LTS, but at
  least for the upcoming 24.04-LTS.

Alternatively it would have been great to get Pulseaudio upgraded to
version 17 for upcoming Ubuntu 22.04-LTS to fix many more bugs, but
apparently that is too late now, according to
  https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+question/709476

After update to kernel 6.8.0-11 all firefox tabs crash.
Using 6.6.0.14 does not cause any problems.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2051895] Re: Lenovo XT99 BT headset can't work in HFP profile

2024-03-04 Thread Steve Langasek
I've sponsored this for noble. For the SRUs, I would like to see a test
case explicitly included that says you will regression-test this on
other bluetooth pairings on other devices: the patch is not a platform-
specific quirk, it is a change to generic bluetooth code, so there
should be explicit tests that it does not break other devices.

You mention in "where problems could occur" that you *have* tested the
patch; but we should test the actual binaries produced as part of the
SRU process, to be certain.

Lenovo XT99 BT headset can't work in HFP profile

Status in HWE Next:

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Committed
Status in pulseaudio source package in Jammy:
  Incomplete
Status in pulseaudio source package in Mantic:
  Incomplete
Status in pulseaudio source package in Noble:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  [Summary]
When use the ThinkPluse xt99 bluetooth head set to run the test
com.canonical.certification::bluetooth/audio_record_playback, it cannot record
the sound and playback.
It seems this device cannot switch to Hand free mode in this platform.

  [Steps to reproduce]
Connect the ThinkPluse xt99, use the Handfree mode, then try to record some
voice.

  [Expected result]
The bluetooth headset ThinkPluse xt99 can use as a MIC to input sound.

  [Actual result]
The bluetooth headset xt99 cannot work in the Handfree mode.

  [Failure rate]
  100%

  [Impact]
With the current Ubuntu 22.04 oem image, we try to connect the LENOVO
XT99 bt headset and let it work in HFP mode, we select HFP profile
from gnome sound-setting, but the microphone will not auto change to
bt microphone and the bt output could not work too. So this BT headset
could only work in A2DP mode with the current 22.04 OEM image.

And we tried ubuntu 22.04 generic image, mantic image and noble image,
none of them could make the headset work in HFP mode.

  [Fix]
Cherry-pick a pulseaudio commit from upstream.

  [Test]
Install the patched pulseaudio and reboot, connect to the LENOVO XT99
bt headset, select it to work in HFP mode, tested playback and capture,
  all worked well.

  [Where problems could occur]
This change will impact bt headset negotiation process in the pulseaudio,
so the possiblity of regression is limited to bt headset, it could make
the bt headset fail to connect, but this possibility is very low, we tested
the patch with different bt headset and bt speaker, all worked well.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1861609] Re: Xorg crashed with assertion failure (usually in a VM) at [privates.h:121/122: dixGetPrivateAddr: Assertion `key->initialized' failed]

2024-03-04 Thread Tobias Bühlmann
I have the same issue on Ubuntu 23.10 using VirtualBox 7.0.14 when using
i3. It doesn't occur when logging in using Ubuntu (Gnome).

The issue doesn't occur when enabling 3D Acceleration in VirtualBox (but
it slows down everything a lot).

Can also confirm uninstalling libva-wayland2 helps.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 2054887] Re: Grahpical bugs caused by unable to access libdrm

2024-03-04 Thread Nathan Teodosio
> I still have the issue after switching to the beta version
123.0.6312.22

Hum... Do you still get the error about the missing file in stderr? Can
you confirm

  snap run --shell chromium
  ls -l /usr/share/libdrm

lists amdgpu.ids now?

I also built the snap with Libdrm provided by Chromium's source itself,
so I'm curious if that would resolve the issue for you:

  snap refresh --channel beta/internal-libdrm chromium

> Here is the output

All is correct there indeed.

Grahpical bugs caused by unable to access libdrm

Status in chromium-browser package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
The chromium snap package has a bunch of graphical glitches that makes
the program unusable. This appears to be caused by the snap package
being unable to access the libdrm directory. Below is the output I get
when launching the program. I have confirmed I have libdrm installed
and the amdgpu.ids file is present on my system. Using a normal
version of Chromium (not a snap) works as expected so I believe there
is an issue with the snap package.
