Cases: 1. Only the LDFLAGS is queried from dpkg-buildflags. Affected source packages builds: python3.12, openjdk-21, cdbs (causing dvbstreamer and rp-pppoe fail to build) 2. autopkgtests 3. debugging a crash of an application build with the -spec parameter 4. People like to iteratively continue building the software in the build dir while hacking on the package and then have no environment variable set. This approach is too fragile. An alternative approach would be to specify the `--package-metadata` linker flag directly. The problem with that approach is that the curly brackets and quotation marks need to be escaped. Example failure: Building dpkg would add this parameter to the LDFLAGS: ``` -Wl,--package-metadata,{"type":"deb","os":"ubuntu","name":"dpkg","version":"1.22.6ubuntu15","architecture":"amd64"} ``` The following configure script call (non-relevant parameters deleted): ``` $ gcc -Wl,--package-metadata,{type:deb,os:ubuntu,name:dpkg,version:1.22.6ubuntu15,architecture:amd64} /usr/bin/ld: cannot find {type:deb: No such file or directory /usr/bin/ld: cannot find os:ubuntu: No such file or directory /usr/bin/ld: cannot find name:dpkg: No such file or directory /usr/bin/ld: cannot find version:1.22.6ubuntu15: No such file or directory /usr/bin/ld: cannot find architecture:amd64}: No such file or directory ``` Proposed solution: Add support for an `--escaped-package-metadata` parameter to the linkers that takes an URL encoded (RFC 3986) parameter. Example failure: Building dpkg would add this parameter to the LDFLAGS: ``` -Wl,--package-metadata,{"type":"deb","os":"ubuntu","name":"dpkg","version":"1.22.6ubuntu15","architecture":"amd64"} ``` The following configure script call (non-relevant parameters deleted): ``` $ gcc -Wl,--package-metadata,{type:deb,os:ubuntu,name:dpkg,version:1.22.6ubuntu15,architecture:amd64} /usr/bin/ld: cannot find {type:deb: No such file or directory /usr/bin/ld: cannot find os:ubuntu: No such file or directory /usr/bin/ld: cannot find name:dpkg: No such file or directory /usr/bin/ld: cannot find version:1.22.6ubuntu15: No such file or directory /usr/bin/ld: cannot find architecture:amd64}: No such file or directory ``` Proposed solution: Add support for an `--escaped-package-metadata` parameter to the linkers that takes an URL encoded (RFC 3986) parameter. Example: ``` -Wl,--encoded-package-metadata,%7B%22type%22:%22deb%22%2C%22os%22:%22ubuntu%22%2C%22name%22:%22dpkg%22%2C%22version%22:%221.22.6ubuntu15%22%2C%22architecture%22:%22amd64%22%7D ``` Solution (see comment #31) == dpkg 1.22.11ubuntu1 stops passing the --specs option. It will be replaced by - dpkg-buildpackage setting ELF_PACKAGE_METADATA in the environment, which gets picked up GCC and clang, and added as a linker option. - the linkers ld.bfd, gold, mold and lld picking up ELF_PACKAGE_METADATA if they don't see a package-metadata option. This is committed, and will be uploaded later. - dpkg-buildflags passing an option --encoded-package-metadata, which can be safely passed. This option has to go upstream first into the linkers, so that we don't have API incompatible linker versions in the archive. If the fix for the other packages in this report is the only Ubuntu delta, it can be safely dropped. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 2037527] Re: [Ffe] libwebp
Hello, it is needed for new libavif, as explained in https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1022001 Having the new version will make easier to build it with finally the sharpyuv functionality. That said, will be anyway autosync next time we open, so there should be plenty of time to fix it properly before 24.04. My idea was to ship in 23.10 to let users broadly test before next LTS. Public bug reported: Openexr in Ubuntu is dated 2018, and suffers from lots of bugs, fixed in the last two years by upstream. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1897962] Re: Out of Memory Error with Brother DCP-J7720W
Hello, looks like the diff between groovy and focal releases is 425k lines of code changed, not something that is easily checkable for regressions, backports might be a really better area to cover this issue. As said by the Debian maintainer in the Debian bug report, this bug is not easily fixable, if not with a new release (however I didn't try to spot the change by looking at the git log) I would like to know if release team has a different opinion, because uploading the groovy one into focal might be a no-go ** Changed in: sane-backends (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Fix Released ** Also affects: sane-backends (Ubuntu Focal) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: sane-backends (Ubuntu Focal) Importance: Undecided => High -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to sane-backends in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1897962 Title: Out of Memory Error with Brother DCP-J7720W Status in sane-backends package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in sane-backends source package in Focal: New Bug description: Installed XSane from the repository but when I scan the viewer screen is blank and if I try to save I get "Error during save: out of memory" I believe that escl driver in 20.04 sane-backends is a problem and it is related to https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=962539 sane-backends 1.0.31 should be considered for focal-backports and that if possible, escl driver could be individually SRU (Stable release update) in focal-updates. ppa:sane-project/sane-git fixes the issue. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1974198] Re: Please merge pipewire 0.3.51-1 (main) from Debian unstable
Hello Nathan, thanks for your nice contribution, however I did the merge by myself and didn't see this bug, not sure why. I'm reuploading with the changelog from you, so you get the contribution credits and I'm closing this bug as "done" Some nitpicks on your delta: - trailing newline on last changelog entry (this is a bug in MoM I know, I usually remove it by hand) - you changed libpulse-dev -> to libpulse-dev (>= 11.1) this was changed from Debian and was making MoM fail with a conflict. Next time, before re instantiating it, check if it is part of Ubuntu delta or not, and try to fix the "merge" manually. In this case taking the control file from Debian and deleting one line was sufficient to have a clean-enough merge, specially because its already satisfied since bionic libpulse-dev | 1:11.1-1ubuntu7 | bionic | amd64, arm64, armhf, i386, ppc64el, s390x libpulse-dev | 1:11.1-1ubuntu7.11 | bionic-security | amd64, arm64, armhf, i386, ppc64el, s390x libpulse-dev | 1:11.1-1ubuntu7.11 | bionic-updates | amd64, arm64, armhf, i386, ppc64el, s390x libpulse-dev | 1:13.99.1-1ubuntu3 | focal | amd64, arm64, armhf, i386, ppc64el, riscv64, s390x libpulse-dev | 1:13.99.1-1ubuntu3.8 | focal-security | amd64, arm64, armhf, i386, ppc64el, s390x libpulse-dev | 1:13.99.1-1ubuntu3.13| focal-updates | amd64, arm64, armhf, i386, ppc64el, s390x libpulse-dev | 1:15.0+dfsg1-1ubuntu2| impish | amd64, arm64, armhf, i386, ppc64el, riscv64, s390x libpulse-dev | 1:15.0+dfsg1-1ubuntu2.1 | impish-updates | riscv64 libpulse-dev | 1:15.0+dfsg1-1ubuntu2.2 | impish-updates | amd64, arm64, armhf, i386, ppc64el, s390x libpulse-dev | 1:15.99.1+dfsg1-1ubuntu1 | jammy | amd64, arm64, armhf, i386, ppc64el, riscv64, s390x libpulse-dev | 1:15.99.1+dfsg1-1ubuntu1 | kinetic | amd64, arm64, armhf, i386, ppc64el, riscv64, s390x ** Changed in: pipewire (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Does Not Exist ** Changed in: pipewire (Ubuntu) Status: Does Not Exist => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to pipewire in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1974198 Title: Please merge pipewire 0.3.51-1 (main) from Debian unstable Status in pipewire package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: Please merge pipewire 0.3.51-1 from Debian unstable.
