I am currently running Ubuntu 19.04 with vanilla Gnome shell 3.32
installed.
I find that the launcher in Gnome does not always accept the icon of a
program. I have had difficulties with it accepting Firefox, Files and
the Terminal icons.
I "work around" seems to be to
apport information

I attach a screen shot. You will see that there are only two icons in
the Dash to Dock Gnome extension. For the sake of clarity, I am not
using the Ubuntu Dock extension.
I have tried to include other icons such as Files and software but it
seems that it is the luck of the draw that decides which
