gtk, then Writer used Onboard quite normally, allowing me to type as

Well, nobody is forcing you to if you don't want to. I just thought you
might like to try out the new Gwibber, which has been completely
rewritten. If you try out the new one and don't like it, is is possible
to revert back to the older one, you just have to remove the PPAs,
uninstall
