Public bug reported:
Earlier this week, horizontal scrolling broke. It may have happened
because of a kernel update (I remember upgrading about the same time it
happened).
I have enabled horizontal scrolling through the Mouse and Touchpad
settings (I use two-finger scrolling). It used to work

I'm running a Dell Inspiron N5010. I encountered this problem
consistently with Ubuntu 10.04 (a few times a day) and have not
encountered it in Ubuntu 11.10 yet. I have been running 11.10 for more
than a week without problem.

What is the status of this bug? In the past week, Thunderbird 8 has
crashed on average 2 times a day on my Ubuntu 11.10. Thunderbird 9 seems
a lot more stable.

Here's some information that I wasn't able to find in this discussion,
so I thought I'd post it.
Natural scrolling can be achieved by putting the following in ~/. :
pointer = 1 2 3 5 4 7 6 8 9 10 11 12. In man xmodmap, there is a
description of the program does. The codes can be found by running
I can confirm that my system does not freeze after using the workaround
in Comment #71. I will post on the upstream bug also.

It seems there hasn't been a discussion on this bug thread about this
being a security issue. (See https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source

I can confirm that this is a security issue because the focus seems to
be held by an open window below LightDM,
I seem to have posted somewhat hastily. If this bug has been marked as

I can reproduce this problem on my Dell Inspiron N5010. If I shutdown my
laptop and leave it in a cold room for a few hours, then it freezes at
the Ubuntu boot screen (with dots indicating progress). By letting it
stay on for a few minutes, forcing the power off, and then booting
again, I am able

On my Dell Inspiron N5010, running Ubuntu 13.04, the screen brightness
is reset to full every time I resume from sleep. I don't know if this is
related, but it is also reset to full brightness when I run gnome-

Marwan, your workaround did in fact fix the problem for me.
I'll add that when I tried your workaround (echo 0

I already had) at the same time. I rebooted and both problems were
fixed: I could change the backlight using my
