[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1999845] [NEW] firefox says dowloaded pdf files are executable files

2022-12-15 Thread cigtoxdoc
Public bug reported:

Version 108.0 installed the other day. Just went to download the PDF of
a journal article from one of the journals published by the American
Chemical Society.

“acs.chemrestox.2c00268-2.pdf” is an executable file. Executable files
may contain viruses or other malicious code that could harm your
computer. Use caution when opening this file. Are you sure you want to
launch “acs.chemrestox.2c00268-2.pdf”?

I reported this to the Mozilla Support Team about a month ago. Upgrade
to V 108.0 did not solve this problem

** Affects: firefox (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1779185] Re: Brother MFC-9440CN will not scan with 18.04 LTS

2018-07-02 Thread cigtoxdoc
I have given up fighting scanning on PCs using 18.04. It is easier to
reboot the PC to windows, do the scanning from windows and use Ext2
volume manager to send the files back to the drives used by Ubuntu.
Devices and software (PDF Studio Pro) that worked very well under 16.04
don't work under 18.04. My main reason for going to 18.04 was to get
rid of a version of evolution that had problems ans was no longer
support. My consulting business runs on evolution (primarily for
e-mail).

I should not have to worry if a PC has USB2 or a combination of USB2 and
USB3

Have you tried this workaround described in
bughttps://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sane-
backends/+bug/1741977message #4? Are you using USB3 socket? Does it work
on USB2?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1299604] Re: evolution keeps asking for password

2014-11-25 Thread cigtoxdoc
The solution given above works correctly untul evolution (3.10.4)
encounters a problem such as pop summary not available or mail server
timed out. It looks like evolution wants an immediate response from a
pop mail server or it throughs all sorts of bogus errors plus removes
the passwords.
