I will provide it off-band by e-mail (not through launchpad) to people

It is more or less a brochure with price list but I cannot post it
publicly.

As written earlier, I will provide the file outside launchpad directly
to the respective maintainer or packager.

I neither own the copyright nor can I sanitize the (PDF) file.

2014-12-17 Thread Matthias Andree
Christopher, support, trust, reputation do not work this way.

Ubuntu neglect the bug for three years (!) as usual - which is a massive
issue in itself - and then close the bug as invalid because the affected
distro went EOL, with five releases being made since the report without
someone seriously looking on the bug.

I still have the document, and I suggest to test on 12.04 LTS instead of
14.

I'm not uploading stuff that reveals some personal information to just
everyone.
I can provide it to anyone who makes plausible he is looking into the issue;
however it appeared to me the cause is cancelling a print-in-progress that
seems to be triggering a race condition, rather than the document itself. It
renders properly.

gnome-calculator no longer offers, as of 14.04, an application menu.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1371899] Re: clang++ -flto fails to work unless -B /usr/lib/gold-ld is given

2014-09-20 Thread Matthias Andree
More importantly, -fuse-ld=gold per apt-get changelog binutils, here,
does NOT work:

binutils (2.23.52.20130722-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream snapshot.
- Fix PR ld/15762, glibc being built without warning sections.
  * Set the libdir for arm64 to lib, not lib64.
  * Stop building the binutils-gold package, let binutils provide
binutils-gold. Packages requiring gold should explicity pass
-fuse-ld=gold to the compiler, packages requiring the bfd linker
should pass -fuse-ld=bfd to the compiler.
  * Refresh patches.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1370363] [NEW] deja-dup fails reporting Permission denied, no error logs anywhere

2014-09-17 Thread Matthias Andree
Public bug reported:

I have had a working deja-dup setup under Ubuntu 12.04LTS. I upgraded to
Ubuntu 14.04LTS. Now deja-dup no-longer works, the window states
Permission denied (the German translation), also if I run
DEJA_DUP_DEBUG=1 deja-dup --backup there is no output at all. (I am
currently trying running it from a KDE desktop.)

I can still successfully run duplicity collection-status + the URL I
find in org.gnome.deja-dup's file backend configuration and get a
reasonable output, so it does not appear to be an ssh-related issue.

I moved .cache/deja-dup out of the way, for no improvement.

How do we go about debugging this?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1370363] Re: deja-dup fails reporting Permission denied, no error logs anywhere

2014-09-17 Thread Matthias Andree
Actually the error message is Access denied. - which is not very
specific.

Also, the fault might be specific to running deja-dup under a KDE desktop.
Running under GNOME Flashback, I see the gcr-prompter password prompt... (from
the gcr package, GNOME crypto services).

sequence from the same Konsole terminal in order shown:

eval $(/usr/bin/gnome-keyring-daemon --start --components=ssh)
export SSH_AUTH_SOCK GNOME_KEYRING_CONTROL
deja-dup --backup

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1370363] Re: deja-dup fails reporting Permission denied, no error logs anywhere

2014-09-17 Thread Matthias Andree
So, bottom line is that:
1. deja-dup is failing to procure the necessary SSH/SFTP password,
2. failing to report the fact it does not have the SSH/SFTP password,
3. not offering an alternative way of getting the password (it is in my
ssh-agent but still...)
4. failing to properly report which access in particular was denied, and what
deja-dup was trying to do.

Keeping the UI simple is one thing, but not reporting errors in a useful
way is not a useful simplification :-)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1366221] [NEW] gnome-calculator does not show application menu anywhere

2014-09-05 Thread Matthias Andree
Public bug reported:

gnome-calculator no longer offers, as of 14.04, an application menu. It
used to be there before the upgrade, in 12.04. So switching between
scientific and engineering now requires me to use dconf-editor.

Note that I did check hovering menu line, application title bar, and
thereabouts, to no avail.

This application is now useless...

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 769061] Re: display remains dark after restarting Xorg server

2014-01-06 Thread Matthias Andree
Feel free to close this bug. I don't have systems that old.

NOTE: I WILL NOT test anything on random systems, unless the items to be
tested are backported to the latest LTS release and stand a chance of
being officially released as updates for the supported LTS releases, out
of principle.

Invalid is not an adequate status, else I'd have set it.

It's more like Ubuntu failed to triage/respond in time, and now the
status is Closed/Unknown...

The File's SHA1 sum is c04bc0ad712f9d26a00e7e3db47778085d2e5f08 and its

The error for me occurs if I view the file in evince, and print it to

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 888898] Re: gs crashed with SIGSEGV in gx_pattern_load()

2012-11-29 Thread Matthias Andree
Now, since this is copyrighted material, I cannot easily add the
printout file per the debug instructions; I can view the printout file -
it is in PDF 1.5 format - just fine with gv (which should be using gs)
and with gs (without any more arguments besides the file name) and with
evince. I can either GnuPG encrypt the file, or send it to Till or other
maintainers directly under the proviso it be handled confidentially.

Does this mean it is an evince or poppler bug that happens from the page
rotation? The printout file in the CUPS queue has rotated pages (90°

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 577985] Re: NM falsely believes networking to be disabled when all interfaces are unmanaged by NM

2012-08-27 Thread Matthias Andree
Well, since Network-Manager goofed up (in a different way) on Precise
for me (bug filed separately), I deinstalled it again.

Can someone else please confirm if this is fixed in Precise and answer
to Mathieu's comment #5?

** Changed in: network-manager (Ubuntu)
   Status: Expired = Incomplete

Title:
NM falsely believes networking to be disabled when all interfaces are
  unmanaged by NM

Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: network-manager

Executive summary: network-manager does not consider the computer to
be online if all connections are unmanaged.

  Details:

  I have a computer, upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04LTS.

There is a regression WRT network-manager after upgrade, in that
applications such as pidgin or firefox believe the computer to be off-
line when in fact it has a working Internet connection through
Ethernet. Firefox starts in off-line mode, and Pidgin waits for a
connection before it even attempts connecting to the XMPP (Jabber)
server. This behaviour was NOT observed with Ubuntu 9.10, but is NEW
  WITH 10.04LTS after upgrade.

  apt-cache policy:

  network-manager:
Installed: 0.8-0ubuntu3
Candidate: 0.8-0ubuntu3
Version table:
   *** 0.8-0ubuntu3 0
  500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages
  100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

The computer uses a static network configuration through
/etc/network/config. nm-tool (before uninstall) logged two unmanaged
  connections, eth0 and wlan0.

The whole situation was unacceptable so I started looking for
workarounds. The blunt obvious solution was purging all traces of
network-manager from the computer and reboot. Now Firefox comes up in
online mode, and Pidgin tries to connect to the XMPP server and
  succeeds.

I would have expected that network-manager considered the computer to
be online, even in the presence of only unmanaged connections, if at
least one of those has link beat.

This is the output of ethtool eth0:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 274405] Re: network manager slow to reconnect after suspend/resume

2012-05-22 Thread Matthias Andree
Also affects a wired ATL1E (Atheros wired 1 GBit/s Ethernet) with static IPv4
configuration and IPv6 set to ignore.
Workaround: sudo ifconfig eth0 up, or clicking on LAN in nm-applet.

  # iwlist eth1 scan

Network Manager seems to wake-up right after the scan is complete

Would there be a way to send a signal upon resume that would trigger
  the same wake-up call?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 804662] Re: jockey-gtk crashed with TypeError in _execute_child(): execv() arg 2 must contain only strings

2012-02-25 Thread Andree Wille
flgrx driver worked fine until i did a apt-get dist-upgrade. A huge
bunch of updated packages were installed. i shut down my laptop and
started it later again. Then i recognized that i had no 3d support and
figured out that the fglrx driver wasn't activated any longer. I
activated the fglrx (post release update) driver and the crash report
started.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 562188] Re: Cannot unmount USB flash drive because volume is busy

2012-01-26 Thread Andree
To reproduce, try to load an external drive with plenty of stuff. I had
the error with around 130 GB stuff each of the sizes 13 - 15 GB. Put the
stuff in the Rubbish Bin and ask to delete it. Go to a folder in the
external drive and look in the bottom, where the free space is show in
figures. Update the window with intervals of seconds and you will see
how the free space slow grows by 1 - 2 GB per two or tree seconds. Some
time you will end up with all the free space, but it takes time.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 674612] Re: gconfd trashes configuration when disk is full

2011-09-09 Thread Matthias Andree
The bug report is for maverick, which continues to be supported into
2012.

Even if the bug were fixed on natty it would persist on maverick, so
there's no point in wasting time testing natty or oneiric betas.

gconfd trashes configuration when disk is full

Status in “gconf” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gconf

This isn't easy to reproduce, but has happened twice.

  Situation:
  1. evolution starts (and with it gconfd)
  2. disk is full
  3. evolution is closed.
  4. next time evolution is started, it starts the mail account setup wizard.

The only remedy was to log out the affected user, shut down her
gconfd, and restore the $HOME/.gconfd/ directory from backup.

This leads to the conclusion that gconfd isn't sufficiently careful
when rewriting configuration files such as
$HOME/.gconfd/apps/evolution/mail/%gconf.xml. gconfd SHOULD write to a
temporary file, fsync() and close it, and only then rename it over the
  old file.

If it did that, only the configuration /CHANGES/ would have been lost,
not the whole configuration as such.
