[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1847570] Re: PulseAudio automatically switches to HDMI sound output on login

2020-01-04 Thread Bill Duetschler
I have an Nvidia based video card that has 2 DVI outputs, an HDMI
output, a DisplayPort output. I have 2 monitors that are plugged in to
the DVI outputs, and nothing plugged in to the HDMI or DP outputs. And
still, XUbuntu insists on switching audio to the HDMI outputs that have
nothing plugged into them.

PulseAudio automatically switches to HDMI sound output on login

Status in pulseaudio source package in Focal:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  [Impact]

On my freshly installed eoan system I have two output devices:
  - HDMI/DisplayPort 2 - GK208 ...
  - Line Out - Family 17h ...

When I login into the system pulseaudio always select the "wrong"
one (HDMI) and I need to go to gnome-settings/Sound/Output Device
and switch to "line out". This applies to every login/logout not
  just reboots.

  [Test Case]

  0. Plug in a monitor that supports HDMI audio (one that appears in
  your Settings>Sound)

  1. Log out and in again.

Verify the default audio device in Settings is still speakers or
headphones. Not the monitor's HDMI audio device.

  [Regression Potential]

Low. The fix proposed just reverts to the same code used in PulseAudio
12 and earlier. It has also been released and verified on focal
  already.

  [Workaround]

  Comment out:

  load-module module-switch-on-port-available
  load-module module-switch-on-connect

  from /etc/pulse/default.pa

2014-08-09 Thread Bill Duetschler
Pascal,

The PCL-6/XL Foomatic/pxlmono driver works correctly on the test file
I uploaded in #7. The PCL-6/XL Foomatic/hpijs-pcl5e driver won't even
allow the printer to print a test page.

So I guess the pxlmono driver works as a workaround for the time being.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1306849] Re: Printing error

2014-06-15 Thread Bill Duetschler
This occurs when I attempt to print from Firefox or Thunderbird. I am
using a networked Brother HL5370DW black-and-white laser printer.  I
have tried both the drivers supplied with Xubuntu as well as the .debs
and .PPD downloaded from the Brother website, both produce the same
result.

Printing a straight text file via 'lpr' works. Printing from Chrome
works too. So does printing a text document generated in LibreOffice.
Evidently the printer gets detected just fine.

Will attach cups error log.

I can't reproduce the problem consistently, but it seems to happen when
I'm printing emails from my gmail account. Ill attach an example.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1306849] Re: Printing error

2014-06-15 Thread Bill Duetschler
'file' says it's PJL encapsulated PostScript document text, but when I
try to open it with evince, I get:

Unable to open document
File type unknown (application/octet-stream is not supported)

GhostScript appears to display the file correctly, just using 'gs
printout' (where 'printout' is the name of the file). (not sure if I
should be using any other opts here--gs has many options and I don't
quite understand them all, sorry)

Trying to print the raw file with 'nc -w1 192.168.2.21 9100 printout'
causes the printer to print the 'stackunderflow' error.

Hope this is useful info. Please let me know if I can be of further
help.

indication on top left, photos on bottom, small map on the bottom left) are OK.
Exiting Street View with the left arrow next to the road indication on top
left, does not help, the map view is also black. The side elements (search box
etc.) work.
Reloading the page restores the situation.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 988138] Re: Iagno hangs every game or two in Ubuntu 12.04, is very slow to take AI turns, crashes, loops sounds and gives wrong score in the end. Worked fine in 11.10

2012-11-04 Thread Bill Duetschler

Title:
Iagno hangs every game or two in Ubuntu 12.04, is very slow to take AI
turns, crashes, loops sounds and gives wrong score in the end. Worked
  fine in 11.10

Status in “gnome-games” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Following is spammed to ~/.xsession-errors - might be related.

  ** (iagno:30066): CRITICAL **: computer_player_move: assertion `self
  != NULL' failed

Once it hangs, if it is playing sounds of pieces, those loop indefinitely.
You can't close it using the X in the app window, or quit in the left Unity
2D bar.

You have to open a terminal and issue a kill.

After the kill, this is spammed to .xsession-errors.

  unity-2d-shell: [WARNING]
  QDBusError(org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.UnknownMethod, No such
interface `org.ayatana.bamf.application' on object at path
  /org/ayatana/bamf/application890181547)

Also, I really really dislike the new error message that shows up on
illegal moves. I assume that used to be in the footer of the app
window, I can't recall. All I know is that every time it shows up,
the playing area shrinks slightly, which is really distracting.

Oh, also, the application seems to be overall much more sluggish than
  in the prior release.

another bug: If you reach a position where neither player can make a
legal move, but the board is not completely filled, the game isn't
declared over with the victor the player with the greater number of
tokens. In the example I'm attaching, neither player can move and Dark
obviously wins. Playing as Dark and trying to move to any of the five
vacant squares results in an illegal-move warning, but neither does the
game recognize the Game Over situation.

Affects me, too, on Xubuntu 12.04.

One more quirk: I'm playing it on the same difficulty level I always
have, and the AI has suddenly become much easier to beat. Lends
credibility to someone's comment about the AI having been dumbed-down.
