Addendum: When I login in terminal mode with ctrl/alt/F1, I get the
error message 'cannot open display default display '.
Running xrandr at this stage results in Can't open display

Since I can login with my Swedish character password in terminal mode, I
guess that ubuntu uses /etc/default/keyboard information for that login?
There must be some way to make ubuntu use /etc/default/keyboard also for
desktop mode login?
Can I change from terminal mode to desktop mode while
I have run ubuntu-bug in terminal mode.
If you tell me where to find the the file that ubuntu-bug produced, incl
the name of the file, and how to move that file to the USB-stick, then I
can send that file by mail...

Thank you for your bug report, what did you change between the time it
worked and stopped working?
The only change that I am aware of, was in BIOS, where I moved the ubuntu
disc to first place and the old Windows disc to second place.
Do you have the 3 layouts available in your
user session?
I can login as guest. The only keyboard layout available under system
management is Russian.
what do you call system management? did you try to go to system
settings, keyboard layout, and add a layout there?

My password is in latin characters (sv). I have set up 3 different keyboards,
sv, en and ru. This has worked for some time. Now only ru is present at login
and cannot be changed. Latin character password using cyrillic character
keyboard does not work!
