[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1694303] Re: Font issues in Zesty

2017-09-06 Thread Juraj
I confirm that installing light-themes_16.10+17.10.20170817-0ubuntu1_all
from Artful fixed the white-on-white issue (the monospace issue
described also in #1700218 still remains).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1586539] Re: Major screen flickering in Chromium and Google Chrome

2017-03-31 Thread Juraj
I was reading Brandon's (maceach-b) bug report
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1657875). Besides
the very entertaining flaming of Christopher (penalvch) by Brandon over
there, I've found out in that report that this has been fixed in the
newer Xorg stack, which can be installed on 16.04 by running the
following, as mentioned in
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack:

 sudo apt-get install --install-recommends linux-generic-hwe-16.04
xserver-xorg-hwe-16.04

This also fixed the issue for me on Thinkpad W520.

Title:
Major screen flickering in Chromium and Google Chrome

Status in X.Org X server:
  Confirmed
Status in xserver-xorg-video-intel package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
On a fresh installation of Ubuntu 16.04 I noticed major screen
flickering issues in Chromium and Google Chrome browsers. Since this
never happened in Ubuntu 15.10 with exactly the same Google Chrome
binary, I believe, bug is caused by something that was added/updated
in 16.04. I came across some discussions where different people
suggested that it is related to new X.Org version.

Here's a video to show what is happening:
  https://youtu.be/l21WsKz3fZc?t=45s

I could fix this flickering with --disable-gpu-compositing switch, but
this slows down page drawing significantly so it can't be considered a
workaround. There is also a Chromium bug report:
  https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=606152, but I
don't think they will fix an Ubuntu-specific bug.

Update: this indeed happens only when browser window is maximized.

  WORKAROUND:

  1. sudo apt-get purge xserver-xorg-video-intel
  2. sudo rm /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf (for those who created
this file before)
  3. reboot

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1636827] Re: wireless network list disappears

2016-11-05 Thread Juraj
Sorry I can't answer all the questions right now, as I'm in a bit of a
rush and can't try out all the old versions of Ubuntu right now. And the
bug doesn't manifest itself that often, so it's hard to pinpoint what
exactly triggers it. For now I can confirm that I have experienced the
bug on Thinkpad T520 too. As before, restarting the NetworkManager
service fixes the issue.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1636827] Re: wireless network list disappears

2016-11-02 Thread Juraj
1) No, it definitely did not occur in 14.04. I believe it's a regression.
2) James Ferguson noted here
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1590985/comments/7) that
he gets the bug after resuming from suspend. I will update later with more
specifics, but I consistently get the bug when running Ubuntu for some time (an
hour, couple of hours?), perhaps doing a suspend. I get the same behaviour like
James that it's still connected, but network-manager doesn't display the active
connection nor other connections.
3) Also will update later.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1456531] Re: LightDM (?) blank/white screen after resume from suspend

2015-08-31 Thread Juraj Somorovsky
Great, thank you!
I installed 4.0.9-generic and the problem disappeared :)

Title:
LightDM (?) blank/white screen after resume from suspend

Status in lightdm package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
On Xubuntu 15.04, when I suspend the machine and resume afterwards,
the screen remains completely white/blank. I can move the mouse
cursor, but I don't see any screen elements. Clicking or wildly
  pressing keys doesn't do anything.

I can switch to a different console with Ctrl+Alt+F1 and log in, just
  fine.

For this bug report, I have removed all files from /var/log/lightdm,
then rebooted, suspended, resumed, and switched to VT1. Then copied
the /var/log/lightdm files to a different location. See their contents
  attached to this bug report.

  Other parameters:

  - Simply locking and unlocking the screen works, ALTHOUGH I also see
the white screen there at first, and have to click a mouse button for
the login form to show up.

  - I'm running a system with a fully encrypted hard-drive and have
configured LightDM to log me in automatically.

  - System is up-to-date.

  - No experimental packages, although I had an experimental version of
xserver-xorg-video-intel running, but removed it shortly after.

  - System is a Thinkpad T450s with Intel HD 5500 graphics.

Hope I didn't forget to mention anything important. If you need more
information or want me to try something, let me know.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1456531] Re: LightDM (?) blank/white screen after resume from suspend

2015-06-20 Thread Juraj Somorovsky
Until there is a fix, could anyone please recommend a workaround for
this?

Every time I suspend my t450s, I estimate there is a 50% probability
that I will have this white screen problem after I wake up. Restarting
my system every time gets annoying...

Thanks a lot!
