I have tried an Ubuntu VM with the same packages related to networking and

  Any suggestion?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1366519] Re: Incredibly slow editing of documents when connected to network

2016-08-29 Thread Narcis Garcia
No sense to report Windows cases (I feel that it's not the scope of
Ubuntu bugs website).

I've been suffering this problem with SSHFS mounts too in Ubuntu 14.04
LTS (today Ubuntu 14.04.5 and LibreOffice 4.2.8.2). The only way to edit
documents and have usable menus is to disconnect all SSHFS mounts.

As slower SSHFS mount is, slower LibreOffice works. No matter if you are
working with only local documents.

every update typed. Lock up can be up to 30 seconds before control is
returned to the user. I have found that this takes place even on
documents located on the same physical machine, not just network
  hosted documents.

Problem does not occur if I disconnect form the SSHFS drive.

I can understand potential delay when editing a remote document but
the connection to an SSHFS file server is affecting editing of locally
  held documents too.

This is obviously not workable on Ubuntu where root has no password

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 118988] Re: No way to disable trash in nautilus

2014-02-12 Thread Narcis Garcia
A workaround for each place, already mentioned:

1. Invoke trash creation, deleting something.
2. Show hidden elements in folder, to trash folder be shown, for example, with
the name .Trash-1000
3. Remove permanently this folder
4. Create a regular file with the same name as removed folder had.

This will not allow move to trash. The only thing to add is to make
Delete key to remove permanently by default. I've tried to edit
~/.gnome2/accels/nautilus but don't find it in Ubuntu 13.10

I realize you can shift delete, but there should be a way to just
disable the trash all together. You can do this in both windows and
OSX so there is no reason it shouldn't be possible in Linux.

I believe the ideal situation would be the nautilus configuration as
it is now with two additional check-boxes:

  1. Disable the trash and delete files immediately.
  2. Disable the trash for removable media and delete files immediately.

Option two check-box would get greyed out when option 1 was checked.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 704123] Re: PIN is asked despite it's configured into the system connection

2012-01-15 Thread Narcis Garcia
How can I fix this problem on Ubuntu 11.04 (gnome desktop) without upgrading to
12.04 ?
The version 0.9.2 of network-manager is only available from Ubuntu 12.04

Title:
PIN is asked despite it's configured into the system connection

Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: network-manager

  I've configured a system-wide 3g broadband connection.
In fact it's there a file with all the provided details in
/etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/ .
  If I switch (log-out + log-in) to a non-administrative user, as soon as I
plug the USB 3G modem I get asked the modem PIN.
This is included into the mentioned file.
The objective is to allow a normal user to connect with the modem with out
the knowledge of username, password and PIN.
  The defails follow.

  $ lsb_release -a
  No LSB modules are available.
  Distributor ID: Ubuntu
  Description: Ubuntu 10.10
  Release: 10.10
  Codename: maverick

  How to reproduce the bug:
  1. Log in as an administrative user (the first one you create at installation
time)
  2. Plug the USB 3G modem into a port
  3. Go to System--Preferences--Newtwork Connections--Mobile Broadband
  4. Fill all the needed details (as well as the PIN)
  5. Check Automatically connect and Available to all users
  6. Test the connection is working.
  7. Check the file in /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/
  8. Reboot (maybe just logout and long is enough)
  9. Log in as the administrative user
  10. Plug the USB modem

  What happens
The system asks for the PIN. You can ignore this request. Then you can go to
the
netowrk icon and select the broadband connection and click it. This time the
PIN
is not required and the connection fires up.

  What is expected to happen
No PIN is required at the modem insertion and the connection fires up
automatically.

  Extra steps.
  11. Create another non administrative user which is capable to connect
through modems (groups dialout and dip).
  12. Switch to this new user
  13. Plug the USB modem.

  What happens
The system asks for aìthe PIN. You cannot ignore this request.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 156201] Re: gedit handles opening big files badly

2011-12-08 Thread Narcis Garcia
I've open a 54MiB .sql file with gedit 2.30.4 (Ubuntu 11.04) and no
problem. There is now a progress bar.

But there are some lines with near 30 columns where the editor
doesn't scroll text when the user walks with the keyboard cursor to the
first or the last characters, and with text wrapping it refreshes
poorly the work area when SearchReplace.

Title:
gedit handles opening big files badly

Status in Light-Weight Text Editor for Gnome:
  Confirmed
Status in “gedit” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gedit

Opening big text files (400 MB, 750 MB) in gedit is bad
  - from a usability standpoint
- There's no progress bar or cancel button for the action, and the load
takes a long time.
  - from a system standpoint:
- In earlier versions, gedit would take so much memory until the system
swapped all other applications to disk, and the system became unusable.
- Since Ubuntu 9.04 Beta, gedit crashes without a GUI message, but the
message failed to allocate X bytes in the console.

  Original description:
I just opened a 400 MB text file (mbox mail file) in gedit, and it my system
has now been unresponsive for minutes. Other editors can open large files
without a problem. Also, there's no progress bar or cancel button that would
make it easy to see how long gedit is loading the file or to cancel the load.
