[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1768625] [NEW] Bluetooth headset HSP/HFP mode not working in Bionic

2018-05-02 Thread Nikhil
Public bug reported:

There is a previous bug with almost the same title, but for Xenial
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/1549163). I
have had this issue in Artful, and when commented on the old bug, I was
asked to raise a new one instead. I waited to see if Bionic fixed it for
me, but it does not seem to work still. So!

Steps to reproduce:
1. enable bluetooth on computer and switch on the headset.
2. pair and connect the headset
3. go to settings to switch headset to HSP/HFP mode to enable mic
4. save and close window.

Expected behaviour:
1. mic should be enabled and headset should be usable to attend calls on laptop.

Behaviour in error:
1. Headset profile switches back to A2DP and mic is not enabled.

I am using a generic bluetooth headset on a fresh updated Kubuntu 18.04
bionic with plasma DE.

Software versions:
Kernel: 4.15.0-20-generic
Bluez version: 5.48-0ubuntu3
pulseaudio: 1:11.1-1ubuntu7
pulseaudio-module-bluetooth: 1:11.1-1ubuntu7

Additional information:
Running "pacmd list-cards" says that HSF/HFP is 'not available' on the headset:

Output from Headset section:
profiles:
a2dp_sink: High Fidelity Playback (A2DP Sink) (priority 40,
available: unknown)
headset_head_unit: Headset Head Unit (HSP/HFP) (priority 30,
available: no)
off: Off (priority 0, available: yes)
active profile:

Status in unity-settings-daemon package in Ubuntu:

  Taking HP laptop and dock available with me for example, laptop has NVIDIA
discrete gpu and proprietary driver installed -
1. connect two DP-displays to dock
2. attach system on dock and make sure all 3 displays are light up

  You can observe blank screen on laptop's flat panel. After some
  investigation it has been found that unity-setting-daemon has grabbed
  X-server and waiting for response on error dialog box, this is
  blocking other X-clients like compiz which might be also doing
  something in response of un-dock event. See following gdb log -

Bug description:
  A number of reports already filed against network-manager seem to
  reflect this problem, but to make things very clear I am opening a new
  report. Where appropriate I will mark other reports as duplicates of
  this one.

  Consider a pre-Precise system with the following /etc/resolv.conf:

  nameserver 192.168.0.1
  nameserver 8.8.8.8

  The first address is the address of a nameserver on the LAN that can
  resolve both private and public domain names. The second address is
  the address of a nameserver on the Internet that can resolve only
  public names.

  This setup works fine because the GNU resolver always tries the first-
  listed address first.

  Now the administrator upgrades to Precise and instead of writing the
  above to resolv.conf, NetworkManager writes

  server=192.168.0.1
  server=8.8.8.8

  to /var/run/nm-dns-dnsmasq.conf and "nameserver 127.0.0.1" to
  resolv.conf. Resolution of private domain names is now broken because
  dnsmasq treats the two upstream nameservers as equals and uses the
  faster one, which could be 8.8.8.8.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1670418] [NEW] Does not detect hotplugged storage device

NTFS is either inconsistent, or there is a hardware fault, or it's a
SoftRAID/FakeRAID hardware. In the first case run chkdsk /f on Windows
then reboot into Windows twice. The usage of the /f parameter is very
important! If the device is a SoftRAID/FakeRAID then first activate
it and mount a different device under the /dev/mapper/ directory, (e.g.
/dev/mapper/nvidia_eahaabcc1). Please see the 'dmraid' documentation

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1220426] Re: [nvidia-prime]Freeze while using touchpad

2014-11-13 Thread Nikhil Mahale
Hi guys,

This is a xserver issue where timers-list gets corrupted because of race
condition.
nVidia X-driver uses timer to update scanout surface after regular interval,
this timer gets removed from timers list because of this timers-list corruption
and desktop gets freezed. This is only happening with touch pad because touch
pad driver is also heavily using timers, which is easily triggering this race
condition.

xserver goes through following race condition -

WaitForSomething()
|
  // timers - synaptics-1 - nvidia-2 - null
   while (timers  (int) (timers-expires - now) = 0)
   // prototype - DoTimer(OsTimerPtr timer, CARD32 now,
OsTimerPtr *prev)
   DoTimer(timers, now, timers)
   |
   |
    OsBlockSignals(); SIGIO OS Signal comes just
before blocking it,

synaptics-1 handler gets called.
  // synaptics-1
gets served and scheduled again;
  // timers -
nvidia-2 - synaptics-1 - null

 *prev = timer-next;
  timer-next = NULL;   // timers - null
  // timers list gets corrupted here and nvidia-2
gets removed from list.

Attaching patch to fix this issue, its working for me.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1293384] Re: Compiz CPU usage dramatically increased in Ubuntu 14.04

2014-07-20 Thread nikhil
I've been running 14.04 for a few days now and the cpu usage at idle
hovers between 22-45% ,about 95% with chromium open, 50% with nautilius,
90% WITH DASH for gods sake, 60% with compiz and about 85% with ubuntu
tweak running. And the lag was so horrible i had to disable almost all
animations and effects AND reduce all animation times to 50 ms AND
animation time step to 2..

For a contrast idle cpu usage was 5% in 12.10 and 2% in windows xp..Ive tried
almost everything,nothing works..
I use:
wipro little genius WLG7B1630V
core2duo @2 ghz
2 gb ddr2 ram @333mhz
512 mb SiS vga graphics with vesa: 6330 drivers

Any workarounds guys??

Bug description:
  It appears that the workload of low-level graphical operations used by
  compiz when, for example, moving windows has increased dramatically
  between Ubuntu 12.04 and Ubuntu 14.04.

  This might not be that visible when using high-end gpus, but should be
  clearly visible when using compiz on llvmpipe and to some-extent
  invalidates the approach of using compiz on top of llvmpipe as a
  fallback when no GPU is available:

  How to reproduce:
  1) Use the unity-3d desktop in Ubuntu 14.04 on top of a non-accelerating Xorg
driver like modesetting. Move windows around. Note peak and average cpu-usage.

  How to verify compiz is the culprit:
  1) copy /usr/bin/compiz from a Ubuntu 12.04 installation. Drop it in as
/usr/bin/compiz on 14.04. Reboot. Perform the same window movement. CPU-usage
should be substantially lower.

  This problem also affects VMs running on VMware ESX with a software-
  rendering GPU. Window movement becomes sluggish, which suggests that
  even with GPUs, compiz has increased the number of operations required
  to move windows.

  When I choose Safely remove drive context menu entry for an external
  USB drive within a nautilus window or directly clicking on the desktop

  I have noticed that similar already happened with a very old Ubuntu

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 792085] Re: Automatic remount of safely removed drive

2011-10-17 Thread Nikhil P Joseph
@Jan: I can confirm that. My laptop's still running lucid and i noticed
it first in maverick when i tried it for a short time. my machine has
the nvidia mcp51 chipset. however i am not sure if the problem affects
nvidia chipsets alone, ive seen some people with intel machines also
encountering this problem.

if it is a driver issue, is there anyway we can roll back to the driver
version in lucid?
