[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1873295] [NEW] Updated 04-16-2000 and system-monitor shell extension broke

2020-04-16 Thread Pete Graner
Public bug reported:

I updated my 20.04 beta box to on 16 Apr 2020 and the system-monitor
applet stopped working. Going to
https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/120/system-monitor/ shows error.
I removed and tried readding with same result. When adding back the
/var/log/syslog shows:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1058040] Re: fglrx-installer not working with AMD Radeon/Mobility Radeon HD 2000-4000 cards in Quantal

Title:
fglrx-installer not working with AMD Radeon/Mobility Radeon HD
  2000-4000 cards in Quantal

Status in Release Notes for Ubuntu:
  Invalid
Status in “fglrx-installer” package in Ubuntu:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
Following the AMD decision to change to a new driver support model for
Radeon™ HD 4000, HD 3000 and HD 2000 series cards for the legacy 12.6 driver as
per
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/linux/legacy/Pages/legacy-radeon_linux.aspx
, fglrx-installer installs non-working drivers for users of the cards:
  AMD Radeon HD 4000 Series
  AMD Radeon HD 3000 Series
  AMD Radeon HD 2000 Series
  AMD Radeon HD Series AGP
AMD Mobility Radeon HD 4000 Series
AMD Mobility Radeon HD 3000 Series
AMD Mobility Radeon HD 2000 Series

I suggest the addition of an fglrx-legacy package to install the AMD
legacy drivers for users with older cards or patch the current code
base for use with these cards.

One of the outstanding issues for addressing this bug is AMD currently does
not plan to support XServer 1.13 (for Ubuntu the package is xserver-xorg-core)
for the legacy 12.6 driver, which Quantal uses:
   apt-cache policy xserver-xorg-core

   WARNING !!!
The following workaround has produced mixed results and left some users with
temporarily broken systems. It is not recommended for production systems or
novice users that are not comfortable with basic console/non-GUI recovery. USE
AT OWN RISK.
  WORKAROUND: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:makson96/fglrx sudo apt-get update
 sudo apt-get -y upgrade sudo apt-get -y install fglrx-legacy

This workaround will downgrade X to 1.12 and install the AMD legacy
  fglrx 8.97 (Catalyst 12.6).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1103064] Re: power indicator shows that keyboard mouse are missing when they are not

2013-02-07 Thread Pete Graner
I installed upower_0.9.17-1build1_amd64.deb per @pitti's instruction and
run sudo upower --dump and attached the output. There was no visible
change in the icon, still showed a not present in () on the indicator
drop down along with a red empty mouse icon and red empty battery icon
for the keyboard. I even logged out and back into a new session and
still see the same behavior.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1103064] Re: power indicator shows that keyboard mouse are missing when they are not

2013-01-23 Thread Pete Graner
Martin,

The machine was running 12.10 until 18 Feb when I ran a do-release-
upgrade -d to bring it up to raring. From that point there were no
updates until yesterday 21 Feb. I upgraded while traveling and upon
returning home I docked the machine and did not get the keyboard mouse
in the power meter. I then upgraded using apt-get dist-upgrade. I then
rebooted and saw the screenshots that are attached.

In running the upower --dump you requested, the 3.5 kernel exhibited the
problem. I'm not sure if its the kernel or not given it happening with
that old of a kernel with the new userspace.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 856333] Re: (oneiric) wired connection unnaturally slow

2011-09-22 Thread Pete Graner
@Jane,

I looks like you have both your wireless wired interfaces running at
the same time.

Try going to the network-manger applet and:

1. Left click on the icon
2. Click Disconnect under Wireless Networks
3. Click Auto eth0 under Wired Networks

That will disconnect your wifi and force your wired to reconnect, ensure
all routing etc is flushed.

Try again and see if you performance gets better.
