[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1969357] Re: Unity7 crashes on Jammy with 22.04's gnome-session version
I just did a fresh install (again) of Ubuntu Unity 22.04 (an iso I built just now) and it looks like dbus-x11 was not installed by default and installing it without touching gnome-session (and then rebooting) fixed the issue (I didn't install or remove any another packages). This works with both GDM and lightdm. Looks like gnome-session wasn't causing the issue and dbus-x11 was getting installed when installing gnome-session's old version, which is why it started working after installing the old version of gnome-session. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-session in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1969357 Title: Unity7 crashes on Jammy with 22.04's gnome-session version Status in gnome-session package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in unity package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Unity7 seems to crash on 22.04 when logging in after installing Ubuntu (it works fine in the live session). [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1969357] Re: Unity7 crashes on Jammy with 22.04's gnome-session version
Hi Marco, I didn't get any error on an old but up-to-date installation of 22.04 with LightDM, but got a login error from gnome-session when using a fresh Ubuntu 22.04 daily-live ISO and installing Unity7 on top of it (with both gdm and lightdm). Apparently, it works after installing the old version of gnome-session and then going back to the latest version with both GDM and lightdm (and doesn't work on both GDM and lightdm without doing so). Everything is working right, except applying settings related to custom key-bindings. I added following lines my gschema.override file: [org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.media-keys] www='w' email='e' custom-keybindings = ['/org/gnome/settings-daemon/plugins/media-keys/custom-keybinding/custom0'] [org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.media-keys.custom-keybinding:/org/gnome/settings-daemon/plugins/media-keys/custom-keybindings/custom0/] name = 'Launch Gedit' command = 'gedit' binding = 'g' I put my gschema.override file in the '/usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas' directory. After I added these lines, I ran 'glib-compile-schemas /usr/share/glib2.0/schemas' and no error was reported. For testing purposes I created a new user, logged out, and logged in with the new user. In the best case, the custom key-binding were applied automatically, but this has not happened. Other defined key-bindings were applied correctly. In the gnome-control-center's key-bindings tab, the table containing custom shortcuts is empty, containing one row with empty columns. Running 'gsettings list-recursively org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins .media-keys.custom-keybinding:/org/gnome/settings-daemon/plugins /media-keys/custom-keybindings/custom0/' shows, the name, command, and binding key pairs contain empty ('') values. If I manually run following commands, the custom key-binding is created correctly: gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.media-keys.custom-keybinding:/org/gnome/settings-daemon/plugins/media-keys/custom-keybindings/custom0/ name "Launch Gedit" gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.media-keys.custom-keybinding:/org/gnome/settings-daemon/plugins/media-keys/custom-keybindings/custom0/ command "gedit" gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.media-keys.custom-keybinding:/org/gnome/settings-daemon/plugins/media-keys/custom-keybindings/custom0/ binding "g" Am I doing anything wrong when I want to add a custom key-bindings in my schema file, or is 'glib-compile-schemas' really not applying this part from the schema file? ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/968213 Title: Too many icons in Gnome Shell Activities Overview require ellipses Status in GNOME Shell: Confirmed Status in One Hundred Papercuts: Confirmed Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Several apps in the default Ubuntu 17.04 or 17.10 install have Ellipses when shown in GNOME Shell's Activities Overview. This was made worse by switching GNOME Shell to use the Ubuntu font because the Ubuntu font is a bit wider than GNOME's default Cantarell font so some apps that didn't require ellipses in 17.04 require them now in 17.10 Alpha. The upstream GNOME bug proposes that apps names be allowed to use 2 lines. This is similar to what the Settings app (gnome-control-center) does. This is also really bad for languages that use more characters than English. Original Bug Title -- Gnome Shell Activities Overview should show full names on mouse hover Original Bug Report --- The title says it all --- especially when choosing recent documents, if they start with the same say 12 or 14 letters, it's impossible to differentiate them (see attached screenshot).
