Bug description:
I am requesting a blanket UI Freeze exception for all flavor wallpaper
packages in advance of the upcoming UI Freeze for a period of 5 days
after it starts. The Noble wallpapers for vanilla Ubuntu will be
available on March 18th, which only gives flavors 2 days to create
  their customized wallpapers.

This is a very tight deadline, and we'd like to avoid putting the
burden on flavors to request individual UIFe's or forcing them to rush
update their wallpaper to make the deadline.

I'd appreciate your support on granting this exception.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1969357] Re: Unity7 crashes on Jammy with 22.04's gnome-session version

Turns out that Ubiquity was removing dbus-x11 (was included in it's
remove list), so I've removed it from Ubiquity's package remove list and
released Ubuntu Unity 22.04 (didn't find any issues after that):

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1969357] Re: Unity7 crashes on Jammy with 22.04's gnome-session version

2022-04-21 Thread Rudra Saraswat
I just did a fresh install (again) of Ubuntu Unity 22.04 (an iso I built
just now) and it looks like dbus-x11 was not installed by default and
installing it without touching gnome-session (and then rebooting) fixed
the issue (I didn't install or remove any another packages). This works
with both GDM and lightdm. Looks like gnome-session wasn't causing the
issue and dbus-x11 was getting installed when installing gnome-session's
old version, which is why it started working after installing the old
version of gnome-session.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1969357] Re: Unity7 crashes on Jammy with 22.04's gnome-session version

2022-04-20 Thread Rudra Saraswat
Hi Marco, I didn't get any error on an old but up-to-date installation
of 22.04 with LightDM, but got a login error from gnome-session when
using a fresh Ubuntu 22.04 daily-live ISO and installing Unity7 on top
of it (with both gdm and lightdm). Apparently, it works after installing
the old version of gnome-session and then going back to the latest
version with both GDM and lightdm (and doesn't work on both GDM and
lightdm without doing so). This might be why it works on old up-to-date
installs of 22.04 but not on fresh installs (which have the latest
version of gnome-session installed).

I tried using GDM3 as suggested by Khurshid, and it works perfectly fine
with GDM3 and the latest version of gnome-session. Guess I'll release
Ubuntu Unity 22.04 with GDM instead of lightdm since it's too late to
release an update to fix this for lightdm users before the release.

Status in ubuntu-settings package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
This is an attempt to resolve "* Shared GSettings keys" issue listed
  under https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Unity/NotDefaultIssues.

Ubuntu so far is providing session related overrides for both ubuntu &
unity sessions in a single package, i.e. ubuntu-settings. But now that
Unity is not the default desktop it doesn't make any sense to carry
  unity related overrides in ubuntu-settings.

For this purpose I have created a new project: unity-settings
  (https://code.launchpad.net/~khurshid-alam/unity-settings/trunk) and
the binary would be unity-settings in universe.

To make this happen in under 18.04 cycle, the work-flow should be:

  1) Have unity-settings in the universe
  2) Have ubuntu-unity-desktop in the universe
  3) Let ubuntu-unity-desktop depends on unity-settings
  4) Drop unity related settings in ubuntu-settings (merge request in-progress)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1281580] Re: glib-compile-schemas doesn't compile relocatable schemas

2020-08-12 Thread Rudra Saraswat
I can confirm that this issue is still present in Ubuntu 20.04.1 Focal
Fossa.

Title:
  glib-compile-schemas doesn't compile relocatable schemas

Status in GLib:
  Expired
Status in glib2.0 package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Dear Developers,

I am using the Ubuntu 14.04 development release with the GNOME Shell 3.10
and, because my wife is using this system as well, I defined some settings in a
gschema.override file.
Everything is working right, except applying settings related to custom
key-bindings.

I added following lines my gschema.override file:
  [org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.media-keys]
  www='w'
  email='e'
  custom-keybindings =
['/org/gnome/settings-daemon/plugins/media-keys/custom-keybinding/custom0']

[org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.media-keys.custom-keybinding:/org/gnome/settings-daemon/plugins/media-keys/custom-keybindings/custom0/]
  name = 'Launch Gedit'
  command = 'gedit'
  binding = 'g'

I put my gschema.override file in the '/usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas'
directory. After I added these lines, I ran 'glib-compile-schemas
/usr/share/glib2.0/schemas' and no error was reported.
For testing purposes I created a new user, logged out, and logged in with the
new user. In the best case, the custom key-binding were applied automatically,
but this has not happened. Other defined key-bindings were applied correctly.
In the gnome-control-center's key-bindings tab, the table containing custom
shortcuts is empty, containing one row with empty columns.

  Running 'gsettings list-recursively org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins
  .media-keys.custom-keybinding:/org/gnome/settings-daemon/plugins
/media-keys/custom-keybindings/custom0/' shows, the name, command, and
binding key pairs contain empty ('') values.

If I manually run following commands, the custom key-binding is created
correctly:
  gsettings set
org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.media-keys.custom-keybinding:/org/gnome/settings-daemon/plugins/media-keys/custom-keybindings/custom0/
 name "Launch Gedit"
  gsettings set
org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.media-keys.custom-keybinding:/org/gnome/settings-daemon/plugins/media-keys/custom-keybindings/custom0/
 command "gedit"
  gsettings set
org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.media-keys.custom-keybinding:/org/gnome/settings-daemon/plugins/media-keys/custom-keybindings/custom0/
 binding "g"

Am I doing anything wrong when I want to add a custom key-bindings in
my schema file, or is 'glib-compile-schemas' really not applying this
  part from the schema file?

  Attila

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1875505] Re: Unity Tweak Tool or the Appearance settings can't find Yaru

2020-07-04 Thread Rudra Saraswat
@seb128 The issue looks to be with Unity Tweak Tool, not Yaru, as most
themes get detected there.

@yamiyukisenpai The themes are hardcoded in the code for Appearance
Settings (unity-control-center), thus Yaru doesn't appear (only Adwaita,
Ambiance, Radiance and High Contrast appear).

It seems, that it doesn't happen without firefox-globalmenu activated.
Maybe it's related to KDE somehow? Maybe it doesn't affect non-KDE-users.
This happens with new created firefox-profiles too. (don't know how the
menubar integration came in there anyway, KDEusers don't need it)

Bug description:
Several apps in the default Ubuntu 17.04 or 17.10 install have
Ellipses when shown in GNOME Shell's Activities Overview.

This was made worse by switching GNOME Shell to use the Ubuntu font
because the Ubuntu font is a bit wider than GNOME's default Cantarell
font so some apps that didn't require ellipses in 17.04 require them
  now in 17.10 Alpha.

The upstream GNOME bug proposes that apps names be allowed to use 2
lines. This is similar to what the Settings app (gnome-control-center)
  does.

This is also really bad for languages that use more characters than
  English.

  Original Bug Title
  --
Gnome Shell Activities Overview should show full names on mouse hover

  Original Bug Report
  ---
The title says it all --- especially when choosing recent documents, if they
start with the same say 12 or 14 letters, it's impossible to differentiate them
 (see attached screenshot).

When mouse is hovering an icon, the full name of the
  application/document should be shown.

  Hi,

My machine is set up with full-disk encryption, so it requires a
password when I boot it up. Because of this I thought I would enable
auto-login to avoid having to enter two passwords at boot.

When I leave my computer for short periods of time, I lock it. I
thought this was working fine for a long time, but I've discovered the
lock screen is actually easily bypassable when auto-login is enabled.
All one has to do is click "Switch User" on the lock screen, then
press "Unlock" and the computer unlocks without prompting for a
  password.

Perhaps this is just me being an idiot, but I thought this was secure
until now. It seems like either unlocking should always require a
password (otherwise what's the point of locking in the first place) or
it should be made totally obvious that unlocking doesn't actually
require a password (i.e. removing the password box from the lock
  screen when auto-login is enabled).

  Thanks,
  Chris
