[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1859308] Re: software-properties-gtk erroneously reports that certain Intel wireless adapter cards are not working

2022-02-24 Thread Sandeep B
I don't know whether its an erroneous report or not, but I am seeing
This device is not working. And my internet slows down sometimes.
Sometimes after being the laptop idle for some time the internet stops
working.

Title:
software-properties-gtk erroneously reports that certain Intel
wireless adapter cards are not working

Status in ubuntu-drivers-common package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in ubuntu-drivers-common source package in Groovy:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
On Ubuntu 20.04 (development branch), as of today, Additional Drivers
(software-properties-gtk 0.98.6) reports that the device "Intel
Corporation: Wireless-AC 9260" is not working, and suggests using a
  manually installed driver (cf. screenshot).

However the device is working correctly:

    * lsmod | grep iwlwifi, lspci -v, lshw, dmesg | grep iwlwifi all show
that its driver iwlwifi is in use
    * ls /lib/firmware/*9260* show that the appropriate firmware files
  are present

And I am indeed writing this bug report connected to an ac (5 GHz)
wifi network, where I can verify a ~130-160 Mbps download speed, so
software-properties-gtk shouldn't report the device as not working and
suggest manually installing a driver. Not sure why it says so?

EDIT: bug confirmed as affecting the following Intel wireless adapter
cards, and assumedly more to come:

Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200
Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 3165
Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260
Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8260
Intel Wireless-AC 9260

Also for reference here are the specs of Intel adapter cards:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1780039] Re: Khronos CTS failure on Bionic due to missing change in libegl1

2018-09-17 Thread Sandeep
Verified that earlier broken Khronos CTS test dEQP-
EGL.functional.negative_api.make_current Passes with this update.

To upgrade libglvnd0, I did following:
1) Add "deb http://ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports bionic-proposed restricted
main multiverse universe" in /etc/apt/sources.list
2) sudo apt-get update
3) sudo apt-get install --only-upgrade libglvnd0

Khronos CTS failure on Bionic due to missing change in libegl1

Status in libglvnd source package in Bionic:

Bug description:

  [Regression potential]
low, the commit has been upstream for some time now

  --

Currently Bionic contains 1.0.0-2ubuntu2 version of libegl1.

There is a bug in libEGL.so.1 due to which a Khronos CTS failure
  happens on ARM platform.

Cosmic has already upgraded to 1.0.0+git20180308-3ubuntu1 version of
libegl1 where this bug is fixed.

Details of fix in liglvnd-EGL code:
https://github.com/NVIDIA/libglvnd/issues/151
  Failing Khronos CTS test: dEQP-EGL.functional.negative_api.make_current,
which runs in bot OpenGL and OpenGL-ES CTS runs.

Without above test passing, we can't submit logs to Khronos for the
  CTS run.

Filing this bug to get libegl1 upgraded to cosmic's version in bionic repos.
We've verified locally on ARM platform, there are no issues present due to
this upgrade.

  Thanks.

in Bionic. It is also not listed under libglvnd source package in
  Bionic: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/bionic/+source/libglvnd

This bug is to know if this was unintentional ? in that case can it be

Thanks Timo.

Can you please update on when should we expect glvnd-gles1 to be back

Also if a new package is going to be built, can we make sure we take a

Yes GLESv1 is a fixed-function pipeline but all the modern day GPUs
still do support it along with support for more recent GLESv2
(programmable pipeline)

With current glvnd libs on 18.04, even if a GPU supports GLESv1 in HW
and SW, apps can't use the API due to missing libGLESv1_CM.so

I am also facing the same issue.

partition like home for storage /data of ext4 type.

Today, after updated my system using apt dist-upgrade. I am unable to

I also face this issue.

Title:
Nautilus is very slow when opening folders with many files

Status in Nautilus:
  Invalid
Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Opening folders with many files takes a long time with Nautilus, to the point
it becomes unusable for folders with more than 5K files.
I've measured the time it takes for folders with different amount of files to
open with Nautilus and Gnome Commander. It is ~6 times faster with GC on
average. In folders with ~20K files, it takes 30s with nautilus versus 6! with
GC.

  With Nautilus
  ~3500 files tales 6 seconds
  ~7000 files takes 18 seconds
  ~15000 files takes 22 seconds
  ~2 files takes 30 seconds

  With Gnome Commander
  ~3500 files tales <1 second
  ~7000 files takes 1.5 seconds
  ~15000 files takes 3 seconds
  ~2 files takes 6 seconds

These are mostly small dicom files (MRI images). I am using a 8 core 3.4Ghz
and 16Gigs of RAM with Ubuntu 11.04 64-bits.
Also, of course, things like selecting all files and copying them around is
absurdly slow and makes nautilus unusable... but that would be another bug
report (?).

  *** hwe-16.04 refresh for 16.04.3 ***

  Revert changes to use debhelper10.

  xorg-server-hwe-16.04 needs updates
  - wayland 1.11 (but zesty has 1.12 which mesa needs so backport that)
  - x11proto-core 7.0.31
  - libxfont-dev 2.0.1, which also means backporting libxfont1 (NEW)

x-x-i-libinput will not replace -evdev in x-x-i-all-hwe-16.04 because the
unity mouse config doesn't work with -libinput.
x-x-i-libinput needs newer libinput, which in turn needs libwacom update.

Mesa needs llvm-4.0 and libclc, libdrm, wayland updates.

  [Test case]

upgrade from/to stock & old hwe stack, test desktop usage

  [Regression potential]

  zesty hasn't blown up

  [Other information]

  build order:
  1. x11proto-core, libdrm, libxfont, libxfont1, libwacom, llvm-toolchain-4.0,
vulkan, wayland
  2. libclc, libinput, xorg-server (build-dep libxfont1-dev)

It doesn't show in

that it's already uploaded to the queue.

Please let me know how long the approval process takes and if I can be
of any help to get it done.

  *** hwe-16.04 refresh for 16.04.3 ***

  Revert changes to use debhelper10.

  xorg-server-hwe-16.04 needs updates
  - wayland 1.11 (but zesty has 1.12 which mesa needs so backport that)
  - x11proto-core 7.0.31
  - libxfont-dev 2.0.1, which also means backporting libxfont1 (NEW)

x-x-i-libinput will not replace -evdev in x-x-i-all-hwe-16.04 because the
unity mouse config doesn't work with -libinput.
x-x-i-libinput needs newer libinput, which in turn needs libwacom update.

Mesa needs llvm-4.0 and libclc, libdrm, wayland updates.

  [Test case]

upgrade from/to stock & old hwe stack, test desktop usage

  [Regression potential]

  zesty hasn't blown up

  [Other information]

  build order:
  1. x11proto-core, libdrm, libxfont, libxfont1, libwacom, llvm-toolchain-4.0,
vulkan, wayland
  2. libclc, libinput, xorg-server (build-dep libxfont1-dev)
  3. mesa, xorg-server-hwe-16.04
  4. drivers
  5. xorg-hwe-16.04

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1687981] Re: Backport packages for 16.04.3 HWE stack

2017-05-22 Thread Sandeep
About Vulkan package:

Vulkan loader (libvulkan) has moved to newer version and that is needed
to make use of all the recently proposed vulkan extensions in the
application.

The main application that doesn't work currently is with Vulkan CTS:
https://github.com/KhronosGroup/VK-GL-CTS

Vulkan CTS passing is required for a device to be called as Vulkan
compatible.

We support only LTS releases on our devices so need latest version on
16.04. Can you please upgrade the libvulkan.so version to 1.0.42 for
Xenial?

This version is already available for latest ubuntu version (17.04).

Thanks.

Christopher,
I don't have anything to add on this right now.

I'm on 12.04 and a different DE right now, so not sure about the
status.

Thanks for taking a look.

Sandeep, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
 /daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

 apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-input-evdev REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is
already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one
 would not be helpful.

 Thank you for your understanding.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1226212] [NEW] No video thumbnails on sftp

2013-09-16 Thread Sandeep Kamath
Public bug reported:

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 13.04
Release:13.04
---
$ sudo apt-cache policy nautilus
nautilus:
  Installed: 1:3.6.3-0ubuntu16
  Candidate: 1:3.6.3-0ubuntu16
  Version table:
 *** 1:3.6.3-0ubuntu16 0
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ raring/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
---

Nautilus doesn't create video thumbnails on sftp since quantal (12.10)

The following warning is thrown:

(nautilus:32597): GnomeDesktop-WARNING **: Unable to create loader for mime
type video/x-msvideo: Unrecognized image file format
(nautilus:32597): GnomeDesktop-WARNING **: Error creating thumbnail for
sftp://user@server/media/storage/file.avi: Unrecognized image file format

Affects all video formats on sftp. Thumbnails are shown for local files and
thumbnails are shown for images on sftp.
All necessary codecs are installed on both machines. And they're both running
ubuntu 13.04 (Issue first popped up after 12.10 upgrade)

There appears to be a related bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/totem/+bug/1084869
But the problem exists even if I switch to ffmpeg-thumbnailer

** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
