[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1952107] Re: Google Contacts API Deprecated

2022-08-17 Thread Taylor Raack
Brian, Sebastien, do either of you have the ability to mark this as a
bug in Bionic as well for tracking purposes? (I don't seem to have
permission to do that). It would be excellent for your patches to be
backported to Bionic, regardless of _who_ submits such a patch.

Thank you very much in advance!

Bug description:
  * Impact
The google contacts integration with the GNOME component will stop working
since it relies on an API which is going to be shutdown

  * Testcase
  - use evolution
  - add a google account
  - go the contacts section

The contacts stored on the google account should be listed, no error
  should be displayed

  * Regression potential
The patch changes the google contact backend so any potential issue is likely
to be with contacts integration.

I opened Evolution today and a red banner appeared on top with the
  following message:

  > Failed to connect address book “ : Contacts”

  > Invalid request URI or header, or unsupported nonstandard parameter:
Contacts API is being deprecated. Migrate to People API to retain
programmatic access to Google Contacts. See
  https://developers.google.com/people/contacts-api-migration.

I found the upstream bug report for this[0], which references the commit[1]
that fixes it.
However, that commit is in release 3.42.0, whereas Ubuntu 21.10 currently has
3.40.4-1. Is it possible to backport this commit so that Evolution will
continue to work properly?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1754671] Re: Full-tunnel VPN DNS leakage regression

2019-02-08 Thread Taylor Raack
I can also confirm that the network-manager package version
1.10.14-0ubuntu1 from bionic-proposed fixes the issue.

  Full-tunnel VPN DNS leakage regression

Status in NetworkManager:

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:

Status in network-manager source package in Bionic:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  * Impact

When using a VPN the DNS requests might still be sent to a DNS server
outside the VPN when they should not

  * Test case

Configure the system to send all the traffic to a VPN, do a name
resolution, the request should not go to the public DNS server (to be
checked by capturing the traffic by example with wireshark)

  * Regression potential

The code change the handling of DNS servers when using a VPN, we
should check that name resolution still work whne using a VPN in
  different configurations

  -

In 16.04 the NetworkManager package used to carry this patch:

http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~network-manager/network-manager/ubuntu/view/head:/debian/patches/Filter-DNS-servers-to-add-to-dnsmasq-based-on-availa.patch

It fixed the DNS setup so that when I'm on the VPN, I am not sending
unencrypted DNS queries to the (potentially hostile) local
  nameservers.

This patch disappeared in an update. I think it was present in
1.2.2-0ubuntu0.16.04.4 but was dropped some time later.

This security bug exists upstream too:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=746422
It's not a *regression* there though, as they didn't fix it yet
(unfortunately!)

Confirmed with a Lenovo V570 that using the generic HWE 16.04 edge
kernel restores hibernation ability. I needed to install both linux-
image-generic-hwe-16.04-edge" and "linux-headers-generic-

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 841343] Re: Banshee hangs on startup

2013-06-16 Thread Taylor Raack
I don't have a 13.04 host to test on either - all of my hosts are on the
latest LTS release (12.04).

However, I can confirm that launching Banshee right now on my 12.04 host
works ok. The program doesn't seem to hang at all upon startup. I'd
suspect that the bug fix was backported to 12.04 as I would expect?

  Banshee hangs on startup

Status in “banshee” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Banshee has worked for me for months (with hundreds of individual
startups and shutdowns) and for some reason last week it has begun to
  hang during its startup sequence. The hang is completely reproducible;
I must kill the banshee process as it never starts up, and every time
I run banshee again, the hang happens again. I don't get any kind of
warnings or errors onscreen or in the debug log. However, the Banshee
Music Player window does appear, but it is empty - nothing ever
  appears in it.

I expect that banshee will launch normally and allow normal user
  interaction.

Here is the output from starting banshee from the command line with

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1019395] Re: At random times NM applet menu stops responding

2012-08-19 Thread Taylor Raack
I have the exact same issue. Also wondering if it might have to do with
suspend / resume. I'll try to get some output logs from running nm-
applet manually and grabbing log output.

Title:
At random times NM applet menu stops responding

Status in “network-manager-applet” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
At random times, Network Manager's whole menu stops working.

If I'm already connected (I mainly use wifi), then network keeps
working fine, however none of the items in the menu does anything.

  Examples,
I click on Edit Networks = nothing happens.
I click on Disconnect = nothing happens
I click on more networks = a tiny empty submenu is shown (instead of a list
of available wifi networks, and there are plenty of them here)

  Rebooting fixes the issue.

This is almost certainly a regression in a recent update, as I never
  experienced this until recently.

This may be happening after suspend/resume, but I'm not sure.

Never mind, sorry, things seem to work ok after a reboot. Wonder why I
had to reboot rather than just restart Libreoffice...

Status in “banshee” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Banshee has worked for me for months (with hundreds of individual

2011-09-09 Thread Taylor Raack
I found bug 845488 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/banshee/+bug/845488)
which seems very similar to this bug, but because I don't know if the
underlying cause is the same, I don't know for sure whether or not it's
a duplicate of this one.

I'm also attaching an strace log like the reporter in 845488, in case
it's of any use.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 841343] [NEW] Banshee hangs on startup

2011-09-04 Thread Taylor Raack
Public bug reported:

Banshee has worked for me for months (with hundreds of individual
startups and shutdowns) and for some reason last week it has begun to
hang during its startup sequence. The hang is completely reproducible; I
must kill the banshee process as it never starts up, and every time I
run banshee again, the hang happens again. I don't get any kind of
warnings or errors onscreen or in the debug log. However, the Banshee
Music Player window does appear, but it is empty - nothing ever appears
in it.

I expect that banshee will launch normally and allow normal user
interaction.

Here is the output from starting banshee from the command line with the
--debug flag set:

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 841343] Re: Banshee hangs on startup

2011-09-04 Thread Taylor Raack
I tried two other things to get banshee to start up successfully, and neither
of them had any positive effect on this issue:
1) Completely removed my ~/.config/banshee-1 directory
2) purged my banshee install and reinstalled

I'm quite puzzled by this behavior. I'll be happy to try any suggestions
to fix this issue.
