Yorick, I completely agree with you.
I wonder which is the correct way to try to elevate this issue and let
devs know it's important. Should I refer people affected to this bug and
have them subscribe? Or should we open an idea at
http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com and vote there?

Hi Ian, does the indicator become active again if you run (in a terminal):
$ upower -d
?
Anyway, this issue is not a gnome-power-manager bug, but an indicator-
power one. So please let's keep working on it

BTW proposed fix woks.
Mini Howto:
- Download latest source from here
http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/sources/gnome-power-manager/3.4/
- untar
- cd to the unpacked directory
$ ./configure
(if it complains about missing packages, install their -dev versions and retry
./configure)
$ make
# make
Sorry, forgot to mention that after
- cd to the unpacked directory
one should change line 1817 of file src/gpm-statistics.c from return FALSE;
to return TRUE;
and then continue with ./configure etc...

Public bug reported:
When I take my (thinkpad) laptop off AC power, I hear the AC-
disconnected sound, but battery-indicator is not updated. Estimation is
not shown, and the icon remains unchanged, it's as if it's still on AC.
In order to restore normal operation I have to click on the icon,
Any progress? These features are pretty basic..

It is ridiculous that we lost this feature when default (and ubuntu-

Please try to fix this!
