Any news on the incorportation of the upstream fix?
This is a blocker issue (application usage becomes so slow I had to switch to
Thunderbird).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1510658] Re: evolution crashes when clicked on a specific message

2016-03-04 Thread mmalmeida
I believe this bug happens to me too.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Open any email from site homeexchange.com
2. Evolution crashes

Doesn't crash if html preview is off.

Happens in 14.04.3 (evolution version: 3.10.4).

14.04 is an LTS, it should have an Evolution version without such a deal
breaker bug!

Chat session on irc with some of the Evolution developers:

(10:37:48) wildOscar: hi. the emails I receive from a particular service always
crash my evolution. how can I report this without showing sensitive information
in the email?
(10:38:26) wildOscar: it's basically every email I receive from them
(homeexchange), brings evolution to its knees and then to the ground
(10:42:37) andre:
https://wiki.gnome.org/Community/GettingInTouch/Bugzilla/GettingTraces
(10:42:50) andre: and then check the stacktrace output for email addresses and
such
(11:02:24) andre: wildOscar, ^
(11:06:45) wildOscar: thanks andre
(11:06:53) wildOscar: I tried running it via gdb
(11:06:56) wildOscar: and got this:
https://gist.github.com/mmalmeida/72927b44142673f8c883
(11:07:38) wildOscar: looks very gibberish, except for the first few lines. is
this helpful in any way?
(11:11:13) mcrha: hi wildOscar, partly useful. What is the evo version? I
suggest to disable loading remote images (Edit->Preferences->Mail
Preferences->HTML Messages tab)
(11:11:23) mcrha: it crashed when evo was loading those remote images
(11:12:04) wildOscar: mcrha: it's 3.10.4 (the one included in ubuntu lts 14.04)
(11:12:31) mcrha: ah, then it makes sense (an ancient version)
(11:13:18) mcrha: the only way to avoid the crashes is to disable image loading
for you (or update, but you've the LTS for a reason...)

According to Evolution maintainers, Evolution 3.10.x is deprecated.

Since Ubuntu 14.04 is an LTS, how will this be handled? Should evolution
version be upgraded within the LTS?

Title:
Nautilus is very slow when opening folders with many files

Status in Nautilus:
  Confirmed
Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
Opening folders with many files takes a long time with Nautilus, to the point
it becomes unusable for folders with more than 5K files.
I've measured the time it takes for folders with different amount of files to
open with Nautilus and Gnome Commander. It is ~6 times faster with GC on
average. In folders with ~20K files, it takes 30s with nautilus versus 6! with
GC.

  With Nautilus
  ~3500 files tales 6 seconds
  ~7000 files takes 18 seconds
  ~15000 files takes 22 seconds
  ~2 files takes 30 seconds

  With Gnome Commander
  ~3500 files tales 1 second
  ~7000 files takes 1.5 seconds
  ~15000 files takes 3 seconds
  ~2 files takes 6 seconds

These are mostly small dicom files (MRI images). I am using a 8 core 3.4Ghz
and 16Gigs of RAM with Ubuntu 11.04 64-bits.
Also, of course, things like selecting all files and copying them around is
absurdly slow and makes nautilus unusable... but that would be another bug
report (?).

Same started happening to me when I add a device to the headphones jack.

I tried kolobok-not-dead 's suggestion. Flickering disappears, but
unfortunately the mixer's volume cannot be changed.
@kolobok-not-dead - did you have that? Does it have to do with the kmix?
(trying to find kmix's equivalent in unity)

Volume Slider Jumps, due to rapidly changing hardware jack sense state

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
In Oneiric Release, The volume slider randomly jump down a notch or
two for fraction of a second, even when there is no audio playing on
the system. If mute is selected, the menu will quickly flip out of
mute mode and back again. This change actually affects the audio
output, resulting in pops correlated with the volume changes.

Title:
Nautilus is very slow when opening folders with many files

Status in Nautilus:
  Confirmed
Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
Opening folders with many files takes a long time with Nautilus, to the point
it becomes unusable for folders with more than 5K files.
I've measured the time it takes for folders with different amount of files to
open with Nautilus and Gnome Commander. It is ~6 times faster with GC on
average. In folders with ~20K files, it takes 30s with nautilus versus 6! with
GC.

  With Nautilus
  ~3500 files tales 6 seconds
  ~7000 files takes 18 seconds
  ~15000 files takes 22 seconds
  ~2 files takes 30 seconds

  With Gnome Commander
  ~3500 files tales 1 second
  ~7000 files takes 1.5 seconds
  ~15000 files takes 3 seconds
  ~2 files takes 6 seconds

These are mostly small dicom files (MRI images). I am using a 8 core 3.4Ghz
and 16Gigs of RAM with Ubuntu 11.04 64-bits.
Also, of course, things like selecting all files and copying them around is
absurdly slow and makes nautilus unusable... but that would be another bug
report (?).

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1373793] [NEW] Failed to spawn SpamAssassin when moving mail to spam after upgrade to 14.04

2014-09-25 Thread mmalmeida
Public bug reported:

I've recently upgraded my machine from 12.04 to 14.04 (64 bits).

Current Evolution version is 3.10.4.

Everytime I manually move an email to junk on an IMAP folder I get the
error message: Failed to spawn SpamAssassin (/usr/bin/sa-learn --spam
--no-sync --local): Failed to execute child process /usr/bin/sa-learn
(No such file or directory)

- In Preferences-Mail-Junk nothing is checked (so spamassassin should be off).
- In the account settings, the Check new messages for Junk is also switched
off

So it seems Evolution is trying to perform some sort of spam learning even when
all the options are turned off!

** Affects: evolution (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1203592] Re: Keyboard backlight does not work in Samsung Series 9 NP900X4C

2014-05-27 Thread mmalmeida
I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1283589 -
[Samsung NP530U3C-A01] LID close, AC, and battery status events not produced
anymore - seems to have some influence over this.

While the FN buttons do not work for keyboard backlight, the automatic
sensor seems to be working. However, because of the issue described in
the other bug, once the event buffer is full, the keyboard backlight
sensor will not work anymore.

This means that while solving the other bug doesn't produce working FN
keys, it at least makes the keyboard backlight work again.

Adding the FN key mappings as described in
  https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SamsungSeries9 does show information
in the notification area when pressing the keyboard backlight's + and
  - buttons, but:

  1) The notification always identifies the backlight as full max
  2) It has no effect on the backlight - it's always off

When I first installed Ubuntu on this machine (12.10), even though the
fn keys never worked I did have intermitent backlight functionality -
the light sensor would sometimes work and I'd see light in the
  keyboard.

I dual boot in Windows 8 and backlighting works there, so this is not
  a hardware issue.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1203592] Re: Keyboard backlight does not work in Samsung Series 9 NP900X4C

2014-02-21 Thread mmalmeida
From the discussion in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/971061/comments/130
a few worhtwile considerations:

- It is said that this is caused by UEFI bug though, since Samsung's special
hardware features are disabled in UEFI mode.
- It therefore only affects Samsung models running in UEFI mode (which is
required for dual booting)

I'm trying to track down the UEFI problem. Any relevant information on the
status of that is appreciated!

When you try to date and time panel in settings you don't have that

Please re-enable calendar week numbering.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 961275] Re: week number not available

2012-11-28 Thread mmalmeida
In Ubuntu 12.04 running classic-gnome this doesn't work.

When you go to time and date settings (as described in
http://askubuntu.com/questions/114032/ubuntu-application-to-show-
calendar-with-week-numbers ) only the time date tab is available -
there is no clock tab.

Can you please reopen this bug?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1081041] [NEW] Double ckick attachments opens tmp directory instead of file

2012-11-20 Thread mmalmeida
Public bug reported:

Method:
1) Double click a pdf/ODT mail attachment

Expected:
- File to be opened with the default program (evince, libreoffice). Ie, same
behaviour as double clicking the file in nautilus

Actual:
- Nautilus is opened in ~/.cache/evolution/tmp/ directory (which contains a
version of the attachment)

I'm in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, using Gnome 3.4.2.1. The attachments have their
defaults defined (eg: properties of the PDF displays document viewer in
default application). I've upgraded from previous verisons of Ubuntu.

** Affects: evolution (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
