[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1615734] Re: Multiple monitors broken

2017-12-08 Thread shaneonabike
This has been my solution since 16.04 (as noted above). But really it
should detect that it's coming back out of sleep.

Bug description:
I have a Lenovo P50 with Nvidia Optimus (Quadro M1000M), installed with
Ubuntu 16.04 and the recommended Nvidia drivers (361.42).
I added two external monitors connected to DP sockets in the docking station.
I would like to have display shift to those two monitors when the laptop is
docked. One monitor has native resolution of 1680x1050 and the other is
1920x1080. The laptop native resolution is 1920x1080.

  Expected result:
laptop monitor shut off, two external monitors running in native resolution,
display shared on both monitors (not mirrored).

  Process:
I configured the display using the "Displays" applet in the unity control
center. However, pressing "Apply" when changing a specific display setting
(such as resolution, location of screen relative to others, turning on/off),
results in a long period of darkness, usually followed by display falling back
to mirroring of all 3 monitors, using a similar-size screen (either low on all
or high on all with the low-res monitor using panning). The applet remains
frozen for some time, with the dialog "Is the display ok" open but
unresponsive. Later I realized this is because there is another dialog of
"Cannot set screen CRTCXXX" hidden under the two above windows, which needs to
by ok-ed first.

  Extra:
I also tried setting the display manually with 'xrandr', which lead to a
similar result as above - with the "cannot set screen" dialog, and falling back
to mirroring. This convinced me that the problem is probably with the nvidia
driver and not the higher plumbing.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1449875] Re: ghostscript fails on some EPS files

I can confirm that installing textlive-lang-cjk actually resolved this
issue. Can we resolve this by making whichever packages a requirement
because having this work seemless is fairly important for designers and
it's a simple fix (after you scower the internet for ages to find this
bug :/)

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1419836] Re: LibreOffice 4.4 (PPA): Extension can't be installed: Message: com.sun.star.uno.RuntimeException) unknown error!

2015-02-17 Thread shaneonabike
For what it's worth I believe the issue comes when the old items are
removed and then the new ones are attempted to be installed. If I didn't
remove them manually first this failed every time.

Then when you restart LibreOffice they are actually there, but not
functioning go figure.

Title:
LibreOffice 4.4 (PPA): Extension can't be installed: Message:
  com.sun.star.uno.RuntimeException) unknown error!

Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Hello,

Both Mendeley and Zotero LibreOffice plugins are having problems with
LibreOffice 4.4:
  Mendeley:

http://support.mendeley.com/customer/portal/questions/11325906-mendeley-plugin-not-working-in-libreoffice-4-4-

  Zotero, for example:
  https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/46297/
(there is a comment saying solved but I think that the person reverted to
4.3 or used upstream)

(I've seen some other plugin with the same error message in
LibreOffice 4.4, not sure if it was the PPA one or not)

Disclaimer: I work for Mendeley, but both plugins are very similar
(Mendeley one is a fork from Zotero one in 2008 before i joined and
they use the same technologies and approach: Python-uno for
communication and then LibreOffice Basic to update the plugin).

The problem is that, if using LibreOffice 4.4 from the PPA and doing this:
  unopkg add -v Mendeley-1.13.3.oxt
it shows an error such as:
  (com.sun.star.uno.RuntimeException) { { Message = unknown error!, Context
= (com.sun.star.uno.XInterface) @0 } }

Then it gets incorrectly installed, I just do:
rm -rf .config/libreoffice # to delete the broken installation
  soffice # to re-create .config/libreoffice
unopkg add -v Mendeley-1.13.3.oxt # to try again if you wish

The Mendeley plugin is available here
  https://www.dropbox.com/s/83isrvr82p2qsvh/Mendeley-1.13.3.oxt?dl=0
(or download and install Mendeley from
http://www.mendeley.com/download-mendeley-desktop/ , then it's available in
/opt/mendeleydesktop/share/mendeleydesktop/openOfficePlugin/Mendeley-1.13.3.oxt
-we don't support OpenOffice but we still need to change the name of the
directory, apologies).
Or attached in this bug report.

Anyway, using LibreOffice 4.4 from libreoffice.org works correctly,
but using the ppa is not working correctly.

We use the Python pyuno technology that maybe is broken there for some
  reason?

There is no menu for this in Gnome. In fact there is no menu in Gnome at
all so I'm not sure what you mean? When you add an IRC connection it
just connects to NickServ. That's the only way that I have been able to
join rooms (through NickServ).

Unfortunately I don't see this option as you indicated? It used to be
there in 12.04 but not now.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1045914] Re: Keyboard layout doesn't show in GNOME Shell session

2012-11-13 Thread shaneonabike
I'm also confused as to why this is of low priority. I am a bit nervous
to install the PPA... and it indicates that it isn't stable. Have people
had much success cause I'm willing to try that. Could we not just deploy
a solution for this release that will also make it into 13.x

It seems weird they would have removed this feature - it's basically
removing accessibility for people of different languages.

Thanks for your efforts and work!
