[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1046490] Re: Saving attachment displays error because of null path
** Changed in: evolution (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete ** Changed in: evolution (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Opinion -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to evolution in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1046490 Title: Saving attachment displays error because of null path Status in “evolution” package in Ubuntu: Opinion Bug description: When attempting to save an attachment in Evolution 3.2.3-0ubuntu6 on a clean install, saving the attachment opens a GtkFileChooser initially browsing the path , which naturally displays an error saying The folder contents could not be displayed: Operation not supported. This is because the key Gconf key /apps/evolution/shell/file_chooser_folder is set to an empty value. If set to the user's homedir (e.g. file:///home/joeuser), or even a sane default (e.g. file:///), this error is not displayed. If the user dismisses the error, and navigates to a valid location in the GtkFileChooser and saves the file, then that location will be saved in the Gconf key and the error won't recur, but this is not good user experience. Steps to reproduce on a clean install of Ubuntu 12.04: 1) Launch Evolution. 2) Configure an e-mail account. 3) Navigate to a message with an attachment 4) Attempt to save the attachment 5) See the error. 6) Run gconftool-2 -s /apps/evolution/shell/file_chooser_folder -t string file://$HOME 7) Repeat steps 1-4, note that no error occurs. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1037669] Re: gst-plugin-scanner and browser plugins are used when opening certain emails
** Also affects: evolution (Debian) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to evolution in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1037669 Title: gst-plugin-scanner and browser plugins are used when opening certain emails Status in “evolution” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in “evolution” package in Debian: New Bug description: Evolution now uses webkit for html mail in 12.10. On launch, it tries to access the google-talkplugin. When looking at a certain messages in preview mode (a google calendar invite), it tries to launch /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/gstreamer0.10/gstreamer-0.10/gst-plugin- scanner. Interestingly, this is happening even though I have 'Only ever show plain text' configured in Preferences/Mail Preferences/HTML Messages (I do have 'Show suppressed HTML parts as attachments' selected). This suggests that evolution: - would gladly use plugins - that javascript is possibly enabled (for the plugin finder) - that the WebKit HTML renderer is being invoked even though 'Only ever show plain text' is selected Webkit is an immensely powerful renderer and it is being used to render completely untrusted input from anyone who can send an email. We need to make sure that plugins and javascript are disabled and that the renderer is not being used at all when 'Only ever show plain text' is enabled (it could be used to deliver text/plain, but it seems that it is processing the HTML then discarding it). This would bring it in line with Thunderbird's policies. I noticed this because I use AppArmor to confine evolution. Unfortunately in my situation, evolution hung on the message that invoked the plugin finder because the plugin finder failed to launch. I have rules now that will prevent the hang, but evolution isn't handling this error condition gracefully either. This should be considered an important security regression. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1039256] Re: Evolution stops functioning when moving a message followed by clicking on an unread message.
** Changed in: evolution (Ubuntu) Status: New = Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to evolution in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1039256 Title: Evolution stops functioning when moving a message followed by clicking on an unread message. Status in “evolution” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: I can reproduce this bug in Ubuntu 12.10 using Evolution 3.5.5 by taking the following steps: Move a message to a different folder or sub-folder. Immediately click on an unread message. After doing this, you will still be able to interact with Evolution, click on messages, access the menus, etc. However, the bottom bar will show a ton of status updates and each time you click it will start a new one. However, the first one never resolves and the message is never moved. Meanwhile, new mail will not be downloaded. I found similar behavior when printing (which doesn't work at all for me for some reason). It says it is printing, and then refuses to complete any other action until the printing is finished. Even clicking the stop button on those status actions just makes them show (cancelling) next to the message, but it never actually cancels. Additionally, Evolution will refuse to go offline, and will refuse to close. The only way I have found to recover is to kill evolution with -9. Regular kill does not do it. Definitely a regression compared to the version in 10.04 and 11.10. Not sure about 12.04. Because this happens for a wide variety of tasks, it may already have been reported, but I do not know what exactly to search for. Sorry if it is a duplicate, but it is quite frustrating. This blocks hardware certification. [Test case] As below; or, more simply, put the preseed file somewhere network-accessible and boot the installer in a VM with url=whatever, then run the installer with ubiquity --automatic. For a valid test, you need to take the original 12.04 image and upgrade just the ubiquity* binary packages before starting the installer. [Regression potential] It's worth testing that d-i still works when built with the updated debian-installer-utils. Nothing outside the installer is at all likely to be affected. Ubuntu 12.04 release image, this contains Ubiquity 2.10.16, grub-pc 1.99-21ubuntu3 and initramfs-tools 0.99ubuntu13. The updates install grub-pc 1.99-21ubuntu3.1. At some point between June 28th and July 3rd, the apt-get upgrade process on Precise installations started stalling. We've noticed it stops when updating the initrds for new kernels: Jul 4 20:43:22 ubuntu in-target: Setting up unity-2d-spread (5.12.0-0ubuntu1.1) ... The mail (IMAP) and multiple calendars work fine but I can't get the contacts to work. I do use two step verification on google if that makes a difference. I have looked around for a solution but I'm unable to find one. I'm not an expert at debugging but if more information is needed please let me know how to produce it and I will collect it. The error I am presented with is a big red banner at the top of the screen when I click on contacts that states: Unable to open address book This address book cannot be opened. This either means that an incorrect URI was entered, or the server is unreachable. Detailed error message: Cannot open book: Source already loaded!
