I am not sure if this is fixed or not. In Thunderbird 31 the monochrome
set has been replaced with Windows95 style ugly icons (clunky
cartoonish). Is this the intended fix or is the icon set now completely
broken? As to the comment above, I help by using, spreading the word and
testing, but I
This got fixed by Thunderbird 31. Great!

Tried but didn't work out how to use original omni.ja content from
~/.thunderbird/
I download the original thunderbird from mozilla and extract omni.ja
from it. So far, it has worked fine this way but it is cumbersome. Even
if the ubuntu package included the original omni.ja in the package
I'm wondering why it often lasts so long to fix some simple and stupid bugs in
Ubuntu.
Some time ago I switched to Debian Wheezy because of this, and I'm now very
satisfied. Debian is a very conservative distribution which does not suffer
from all these crude Canonical changes.

You
I guess because for the mainstream users of Ubuntu, it works fine (that
is, you use unity and don't change any defaults in Thunderbird). And no
non-mainstream user is bothered enough to get involved in Ubuntu
development and submit a patch with an alternative. If someone modified
the Ubuntu
The ubuntu deb build applies this patch and some related ones that make

Actually, I am surprised so few people have complained about this.
Perhaps Thunderbird is not used so much (particularly in Kubuntu)? Or
people don't use the default theme?

Any news on this? This is really annoying. It also seems that only the default
icons have been changed, if you adjusted your navigation bar, you end up with
mixed colored and black/white icons which is even uglier than only black/white.
I agree, best solution would be a plugin which could be
I offer myself to fix a GCC bug to the best of my possibilities if
someone in return manages to fix this annoying issue. My ideal fix would
be to offer the default Thunderbird icon set as an extra theme, and that
updating Thunderbird does not reset the theme to the Ubuntu's default.
Any takers?
Still a problem with Thunderbird 16.01.

Maybe this is a permanent workaround ? http://oxygenkde.altervista.org/
It is a pain to fix this for every Thunderbird update.

There are still some icons that don't suit the original theme. See
