I have to accept what you say but let me tell more. There are three
columns, one titled "type" where I select "page". Second column is
titled "Select" where I select "next page". The third column is titled
"Format" where the values are selected. This last column does not work.

Could this be because the "Value" field in the Fields dialog contains
the text "next page"? Try clearing this field, inserting next page's
number in various formats works for me here.
