The issue looks like an upstream one, could you report it as well on https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/issues/ ? It's also interesting that when I attach an external monitor to an external mode in tent mode, the screen orientation changes to standard mode and can therefore no longer be used in tent mode because everything is upside down.
