Title:
Gnome Dash (vanilla - no extensions) first icon always missing unless
you open the dash soon after login

Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
Using Vanilla Gnome session, with extensions turned off, the dash
icons on the left of the screen do not display properly.

The topmost icon is always missing (with the exception below) and
replaced by a small empty square (which can still be clicked to open
  the application).

This is very reproducible; I have the same issue on two separate
machines, and the behaviour is identical

  * Opening the dash shortly after login prevents the problem from happening -
all icons display correctly and remain correct for the duration of the session.
  * Waiting a while (e.g. one minute) after logging in before opening the dash
will always result in the topmost icon being missing, and the only way to get
it back is to restart the session.
  * It doesn't matter what application is placed in the topmost position on the
dash - its icon will go missing.

This doesn't seem to be related to extensions as I have extensions
turned off in Tweaks, and both X11 and Wayland sessions have the same
  behavior.

This is the same behavior as shown at this askubuntu link, and has been
occurring ever since updating to 19.04:

I have uninstalled all extensions and the problem still occurs.
Interestingly it is fully repeatable on one system but intermittent on
the other...

Apport log uploaded, thanks.

2019-09-04 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Please:

1. Ensure you have uninstalled/deleted all extensions, not just disabled
them. Extensions can still interfere when installed and disabled.

2. Run this command to tell us more information about the machine:
