This is due to XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP now containing more than one value,
i.e. it is "Unity:Unity7" when it used to be "Unity". u-c-c is still
incorrectly doing a simple string comparison to check if it is running

On a Dell XPS 13 and none of the proposed fixes seem to work. The
touchscreen basically dies after resume from suspend and only a restart
seems to fix it

After upgrading from 16.04 to 16.10-something-after-final-beta the UI
scaling of desktop has gone and the relevant UI control is not found in
the Displays panel of System Settings.
I could work around some of the problems by:

Just found a better set of settings:
- `gsettings set com.ubuntu.user-interface scale-factor "{'HDMI1': 8, 'eDP1':
8m 'eDP-1': 12}"`
- `gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface text-scaling-factor 1.0`
- `gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface cursor-size 36`
- setting `layout.css.devPixelsPe
Oh, right, I needed to attach to the gnome-terminal.server to get a
backtrace. Here it is, and there seems to be indeed a crash in GTK+3 for
me.

Anyway, there are multiple gtk related applications crashing so probably
not related to lightdm directly. For example the apport-collect that
crashes at some point, or if I open menus in GNOME Terminal or create a
new tab.
Zero problems using Qt/KDE apps however.
I agree this is pretty "Incomplet
Same for me for the same Ubuntu and NM version.
