Bug description:
About 30% of the times when my computer wakes up from sleep/suspend,

kill gnome-shell, it it takes me back to the login screen, and

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1749424] Re: gnome-shell at 100% after waking up from sleep, screen frozen

2018-02-18 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks, but we need a bug report that contains stack traces.

Next please try:

  kill -ABRT `pidof -s gnome-shell`

With some luck that will create a new crash file in /var/crash. You can
then upload it to a new bug report using this command:

  ubuntu-bug /var/crash/YOURFILE.crash

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1749424] Re: gnome-shell at 100% after waking up from sleep, screen frozen

2018-02-16 Thread Patrik Jelinko
Hi Daniel,

If I issue the command with --hanging, it would not give me a launchpad
page to file a new report, and it kills the gnome-shell process.

I have issued it without --hanging, and opened a new bug, please check if you
have enough info now:

2018-02-16 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks, but that's not what we need. Please avoid using '-u' and instead
run:

  apport-cli --hanging -P `pidof -s gnome-shell`

If that creates a new bug then please just tell us the new bug ID.

Hi Daniel,

I think I managed it now. First saved the record to a local file, then
used the "apport-cli -u 1749424 filename" to send it. Pls check

Title:
gnome-shell at 100% after waking up from sleep, screen frozen

Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
About 30% of the times when my computer wakes up from sleep/suspend,
the screen is frozen. I can remotely login via ssh, and every time
what I found is the gnome-shell process is using 100% CPU time. If I
kill gnome-shell, it it takes me back to the login screen, and
everything seems to be fine, I'm just loosing my session, which is
quite annoying. Let me know if you need anything else, easy to
  reproduce the behaviour.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1749424] Re: gnome-shell at 100% after waking up from sleep, screen frozen

2018-02-15 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Maybe try:

apport-cli --hanging -P `pidof -s gnome-shell`

If that then creates a new bug then please just tell us the new bug ID.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1749424] Re: gnome-shell at 100% after waking up from sleep, screen frozen

2018-02-15 Thread Patrik Jelinko
Daniel,

Can you pls double-check the command I need to run? It gives me the following
error message:
---
@x:~$ apport-cli -u 1749424 --hanging -P `pidof -s gnome-shell`
Usage: apport-cli [options] [symptom|pid|package|program path|.apport/.crash
file]

apport-cli: error: -u/--update-bug option cannot be used together with options
for a new report
---
apport-cli --version
2.20.7
---

I have tried to play around with the options, but nothing seems to be
working, always the same error message.

Thanks,
Patrik

Patrik,

Please try this command to try and help us gather more information about
the spinning process (while it is still spinning):

apport-cli -u 1749424 --hanging -P `pidof -s gnome-shell`
