Bruce, The deadline depends on what funding level you target. For smaller scale projects, the deadline is in May. For the biggest scale project, the deadline is not until January. If you are really interested, I would suggest looking at this link: http://www.nsf.gov/pubs/2005/nsf05559/nsf05559.
