Re: Mentors mailing active? (regarding GSOC)

2020-04-16 Thread Thomas Andraschko
Hi Maxim,

i just wanted to ask if there is anything special required to register on
the mentors list?
I also talked with the infa team some days ago and registered the second
time.
They also said that they will ping the mentors mailing list admin to add me
but not sure as i didn't receive your mail today.
I currently just check https://lists.apache.org/ every day :D

Best regards,
Thomas

2020-04-11 Thread Thomas Andraschko
Hi Maxim,

oh, this is very very weird. I didn't received the mail :/ damn!
Should i contact to the infra team to check this?
I registred on the ML and it seems that others receive my mails, just not
the other direction.
I will now reply to this thread and CC mentors.

I am PMC in this project. Romain, the second mentor mentioned in the JIRA,
is also a PMC :)

Best regards,
Thomas

Mentors mailing active? (regarding GSOC)

2020-04-11 Thread Thomas Andraschko
Hi,

i already send 2 mails to the mentors mailing list regarding GSOC.
I wonder why i didnt get any answers there.

We have a proposal here ( https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/OWB-1319)
and "my" student already registered the proposal at google.

It seems that i missed to register as mentor on the GSOC page as required
by:

"Once the ASF is confirmed as a mentoring organisation mentors must
register with the GSoC webapp, and request to become a mentor for the ASF
organization. Make sure that the email address you use for that (it's often
your @gmail.com address by default) is '''registered as a mail alias for
your Apache account at (http://id.apache.org)''' so that we can match it to
your ASF account. You should also register your '''GSoC Link Id to
committers/GSoCLinkId.txt'''

I wonder what are the next steps or i am to late?
Any feedback would be welcome.

Best regards,
Thomas

GSOC: mentor/student matching - enforce specific student/friend?

2020-03-09 Thread Thomas Andraschko
Hi @all,

i'm PMC in several JavaEE related projects at Apache and never participated
in GSOC or similar.
As you all may know, the JavaEE world is currently migrating to JakartaEE.
Therefore there are many maintenance tasks in all those projects like
renaming javax.*->jakarta.*, Java11 migration, JUnit5, ...

I now have a friend that is currently studying and wants to take part in
the GSOC.
We live in the same city and we have been working together.
I would really like to be matched with this particular student when he
makes his project proposal.

I have 2 questions about this matter:

1) How can i take part in this matching decision?

2) Would one story like "Apache BVal maintenance" with some substories
(like "javax->jakarta", java 11 migration, etc) be enough?

Thanks.

Best regards,
Thomas
