This would be a very big breaking change in release numbering that goes
against our compatibility guidelines. We only drop support for Java
versions on major releases.
If we want features that require newer jdks sooner, we should make major
releases sooner.

Passing for me (repeatedly), but please file a JIRA and attach the full
output from the test. If this test is flaking in some environments that is
something we can look at for 0.98.23.

Agreed, makes sense interested parties should help Matteo get 2.0 out this
year. I'm on board.

Do not worry Sean, doc is coming today as a preview and our writer Frank
will be working on a putting it into Apache repo. Timeline depends on
Franks schedule but I hope we will get it rather sooner than later.
As for failure testing, we are focusing only on a consistent state of
backup system
"docs will come to Apache soon" does not address my concern around docs at
all, unless said docs have already made it into the project repo. I don't
want third party resources for using a major and important feature of the
project, I want us to provide end users with what they need to get the job
we should probably have a "current limitations" section in the user guide
(maybe near the technical details),
some of this stuff may be in the final 2.0 since some tasks are marked as
phase3,
but I think is important to mention stuff like:
- if you write to the table with Durability.SKIP_WALS
For a company upgrade JDK to 8 will change many things. So if we drop the
support for less than JDK 8 at 1.4, then It is probable that people neither
upgrade JDK to 8 nor upgrade HBase to 1.4. And they will use JDK 7 + HBase
1.3 for a long time.
But actually upgrade JDK to 8 is not a big deal.
Yeah I'm currently working on HBASE-16591 to bring our master build
pipeline to jdk8 only...

Run TestShell twice, both could passed.

Failing in a consistent way, with docs that explain the various
expected failures would be sufficient.
