[jira] [Commented] (LUCENE-7941) GeoDegeneratePoints return intersects when located in edge shape
[ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/LUCENE-7941?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel=16143390#comment-16143390 ] Karl Wright commented on LUCENE-7941: - [~ivera], line 2500 of Plane.java is the start of a comment. But if I have the right place (line 2305) then this is my response: (1) The difference between intersects() and crosses() is what the code does with the situation where there is only ONE solution to the line-intersecting-world computation it is performing. The code in question does differ from intersects() to crosses(). (2) The code you point out is trying to determine whether any of the two intersection points found are within the bounds. If neither is within the bounds then we must return false. But at this point we already know there are two intersection points on the globe; it does not matter whether one point is in bounds and the other is outside. The way crosses() should behave differently from intersects() is that it should exclude solutions where the line of intersection touches the world at exactly one point. That is the only difference. That is what the math can compute; no more, and no less. If you can, in detail, supply an example of where this fails to detect an edge crossing, or detects a crossing where it should not, please do so, and we can analyze it further. Note that the same logic exactly is used for GeoComplexPolygon, so we have some thoughts that it might be actually doing the right thing, provided you understand what it is actually doing. GeoComplexPolygon also uses infitesimal planes (that is, planes that have been moved a small distance one way or another) to count crossings, so maybe you will need to do something more to come up with a fully viable approach here. My suspicion, though, is that we really don't get to independently calculate edge crossings from intersections in the way you would like -- at least not in a computationally acceptable manner. > GeoDegeneratePoints return intersects when located in edge shape > - > > Key: LUCENE-7941 > URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/LUCENE-7941 > Project: Lucene - Core > Issue Type: Bug >Reporter: Ignacio Vera >Assignee: Karl Wright >Priority: Minor > Fix For: 6.7, master (8.0), 7.1 > > Attachments: LUCENE-7941-test.patch > > > If the degenerate Geopoint lays on the boundary of a shape, the > relationships between the objects are not symetrical: > The bounding box "thinks" it contains the degenerated point. > The degenerated point "thinks" it intersects the shape. -- This message was sent by Atlassian JIRA (v6.4.14#64029) - To unsubscribe, e-mail: dev-unsubscr...@lucene.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: dev-h...@lucene.apache.org

My comments: It seems there is a problem with it. In line 2305 of Plane class I think the condition should read like: if (!point1Valid) { return false; } If not the function is equivalent to intersects(). I try to implement get relationship() with this new information. First thing I notice is that I need to run intersects() and crosses() in the same function all the time which seems to be running very similar code. I guess it would be better to have a function similar to getRelationship() for planes that return three possibilities: DISJOINT/INTERSECTS/CROSSES. But It seems that if we go that way we would need to change more things. There is one case, when the intersection point is equal to the edge point that fails. It means that we would need at least two edge points per shape. Now I am convinced that the current implementation is the most efficient under contract. I am not so keen in change it. [jira] [Created] (LUCENE-7942) For Geo3d paths, aggregating distance values using "+" is not adequate for squared distances

For some kinds of Distance computations, though, addition is not an adequate way to do this. The xxxSquaredDistance computations, for example, do not produce true squared distances but rather a distance metric that is a combination of both squared and linear. [jira] [Commented] (SOLR-11250) Add new LTR model which loads the model definition from the external resource

WrapperModel or WrappingModel or something like that might be alternatives. What do you think? I agree with your opinion. Actually, {{ExternalModel}} is likely to cause misunderstanding. I'll change the name of the base class. bq. i.e. changes to it can be included in the same patch as the actual code changes. Thanks for the information. I'll try creating a patch for the document. bq. method it is now then also possible for custom (external) models to use a non-JSON format potentially That's a great idea! I think it is easy to extend our model to be able to consume non-JSON format (e.g. xml, yaml, etc.) by using proper libraries. I'll try adding parser for these formats and extending the model's parameters to something like below. {code} { "class" : "org.apache.solr.ltr.model.URIExternalModel", "name" : "modelZ", "params" : { "format": "xml", "uri" : "file:///var/models/modelF.xml" } } {code} > Add new LTR model which loads the model definition from the external resource > - > > Key: SOLR-11250 > URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SOLR-11250 > Project: Solr > Issue Type: Improvement > Security Level: Public(Default Security Level. Re: Pathological index condition
I've been thinking about this a little more. Since this is an outlier, I'm loathe to change the core TMP merge selection process. Say the max segment size if 5G. You'd be doing an awful lot of I/O to merge a segment with 4.75G "live" docs with one with 0.25G. Plus that doesn't really allow users who issue the tempting "optimize" command to recover; that one huge segment can hang around for a _very_ long time, accumulating lots of deleted docs. Same with expungeDeletes. I can think of several approaches: 1> despite my comment above, a flag that says something like "if a segment has > X% deleted docs, merge it with a smaller segment anyway respecting the max segment size. I know, I know this will affect indexing throughput, do it anyway". 2> A special op (or perhaps a flag on expungeDeletes) that would behave like <1> but on-demand rather than part of standard merging. In both of these cases, if a segment had > X% deleted docs but the live doc size for that segment was > the max seg size, rewrite it into a single new segment removing deleted docs. 3> some way to do the above on a schedule. My notion is something like a maintenance window at 1:00 AM. You'd still have a live collection, but (presumably) a way to purge the day's accumulation of deleted documents during off hours. 4> ??? I probably like <2> best so far, I don't see this condition in the wild very often it usually occurs during heavy re-indexing operations and often after an optimize or expungeDeletes has happened. <1> could get horribly pathological if the threshold was 1% or something. WDYT? [jira] [Created] (SOLR-11292) Querying against an alias can lead to incorrect routing
Varun Thacker created SOLR-11292: Summary: Querying against an alias can lead to incorrect routing Key: SOLR-11292 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SOLR-11292 Project: Solr Issue Type: Bug Security Level: Public (Default Security Level. Issues are Public) Reporter: Varun Thacker collection1 has 2 shards and 1 replica collection2 has 8 shards and 1 replica I have 8 nodes so collection2 is spread across all 8 , while collection1 is hosted by two nodes If we create an alias called "collection1" and point it to "collection2". Querying against the alias "collection1" works as expected but what I noticed was the top level queries would only hit 2 out of the 8 JVMs when querying using SolrJ It turns out that SolrJ is using the state.json of collection1 ( the actual collection ) and routing queries to only those nodes. There are two negatives to this: - If those two nodes are down all queries fail. - Top level queries are only routed to those two nodes thus causing a skew in the top level requests The obvious solution would be to use the state.json file of the underlying collection that the alias is pointing to . But if we have the alias pointing to multiple collections then this might get tricky? -- This message was sent by Atlassian JIRA (v6.4.14#64029) - To unsubscribe, e-mail: dev-unsubscr...@lucene.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: dev-h...@lucene.apache.org
