[jira] [Commented] (SOLR-11441) windows shell splits args on "=" so we should consider updating our docs to always quote args like -Dfoo=bar or improve bin/solr.cmd to account for this
[ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SOLR-11441?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel=16193899#comment-16193899 ] Hoss Man commented on SOLR-11441: - according to that (totally non-official) URL, it's the automatic behavior inside of of any CMD script. I'm not sure if comparing bin/solr.cmd to ant.bat is really an apples to apples comparison though -- in this example we're expecting {{-Dsolr.ltr.enabled=true}} to be passed to solr.cmd as a single String so that when we're looping over the args we can see it starts with "-D" and we know we should pass the whole thing as is to jetty when running java.exe. In the ant.bat case, if you passed {{-Dsolr.ltr.enabled=true}} to ant, the ant.bat file is (probably?) designed around the assumption that it's getting key=val pairs -- which it's fine with because it's just going to put all of them in the arg list that it passes to java.exe when running the Launcher class. ... yeah -- Launcher.java/Main.java in ant seem to be explicitly designed with the assumption that the OS might throw away the "=" and split the args... https://github.com/apache/ant/blob/master/src/main/org/apache/tools/ant/Main.java#L551 > windows shell splits args on "=" so we should consider updating our docs to > always quote args like -Dfoo=bar or improve bin/solr.cmd to account for this > > > Key: SOLR-11441 > URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SOLR-11441 > Project: Solr > Issue Type: Bug > Security Level: Public(Default Security Level. min-should-match with slop and phrases?
I've been asked today about whether there is a way to express a query like: q="foo bar baz" with a certain phrase slop factor *and* potential misses (say, any two of the terms above should match). This was a question related to Solr's edismax which I don't know that well. My tentatively answer based on the code is that mm (min should match) only applies to Boolean queries (clauses), so there is no way to mix it with phrase queries... One could simulate this with span queries, but there is no query parser available that would permit creating such a query from user input. Am I right/ wrong/ missing something obvious? I could make an argument for this to go under DevOps...it's related to set up & config. bq. V2 API : Move this to the Client APIs section? This page is really meant only to be a placeholder until all of the v2 APIs are fully documented throughout the Guide. [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SOLR-11423?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel=16193435#comment-16193435 ] Scott Blum commented on SOLR-11423: --- [~noble.paul] both good questions! > This looks fine. I'm just worried about the extra cost of the extra cost of > {{Stat stat = zookeeper.exists(dir, null, true);}} for each call. Indeed! That's why in my second pass, I added `offerPermits`. As long as the queue is mostly empty, each client will only bother checking the stats about every 200 queued entries. Agreed on a "create sequential node if parent node has fewer then XXX entries". > Another point to consider is , is the rest of Solr code designed to handle > this error? I guess, the thread should wait for a few seconds and retry if > the no: of items fell below the limit. This will dramatically reduce the no: > of other errors in the system. I thought about this point quite a bit, and came down on the side of erroring immediately. Again, I'm thinking of this mostly like an automatic emergency shutoff in a nuclear reactor: you hope you never need it. The point being, if you're in a state where you have 20k items in the queue, you're already in a pathologically bad state. I can't see how adding latency and hoping things get better will improve the situation vs. erroring out immediately. I've never seen a solr cluster recover on its own once the queue got that high, it always required manual intervention. > Overseer queue needs a hard cap (maximum size) that clients respect > --- > > Key: SOLR-11423 > URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SOLR-11423 > Project: Solr > Issue Type: Improvement > Security Level: Public(Default Security Level. [jira] [Commented] (SOLR-11435) Replicas failed to be deleted can overwrite replicas of recreated collections
[ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SOLR-11435?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel=16193186#comment-16193186 ] Mano Kovacs commented on SOLR-11435: It would be important to understand what {{ZkController.checkStateInZk()}} does when {{legacyCloud=false}}. Considering {{legacyCloud=false}} means the true source of core-layout is ZK and ZK only, this method should prevents core to be initialized if that core is not assigned to that node. Now, I see [~varunthacker]'s patch as a hardening in the logic, meaning if the core was moved in ZK, it should not be loaded on the old node (deleting collection), or the other way, if the core is moved physically to another node, it should be represented in ZK as well (AAR). So either that assumption is correct and that fix is valid, or not correct, but then we need to clarify meaning of {{legacyCloud=false}} and how we want to ensure that. I am not sure how this was affecting AAR, but I assume there are scenarios when the core is already being created but ZK does not reflect the new state of the core (with the new baseurl). If that is the case, I would not think relaxation of this {{ZkController.checkStateInZk()}} is the right solution. I think the hardening just made a bug to surface. I am preparing the test for this soon. > Replicas failed to be deleted can overwrite replicas of recreated collections > - > > Key: SOLR-11435 > URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SOLR-11435 > Project: Solr > Issue Type: Bug > Security Level: Public(Default Security Level. I think we should add it back when users are not using the autoAddReplica feature? That may be a good short term fix, but we should consider how this all works with legacyCloud=false and the new autoAddReplica replacement longer term. Another option is to just revert that change for now, even with it's affect on autoAddReplica, given the nightly test was broken some time ago and a variety of things could be broken now. Also though, I wonder if SOLR-7248 was really the right fix for this issue. Using the coreNodeName is a very simple design to understand. This complicated things. Can we not prevent this behavior in a better way? Question regarding Upgrading to SolrCloud
Hello Guys, As of now we are running Solr 3.4 with Master Slave Configuration. We are planning to upgrade it to the lastest version (6.6 or 7). Questions I have before upgrading 1. Since we do not have a lot of data, is it required to move to SolrCloud or continue using it Master Slave 2. Is the support for Master Slave will be there in the future release or do you plan to remove it. 3. Can we configure master-slave replication in Solr Cloud, if yes then do we need zookeeper as well. Thanks, Gopesh Sharma
