Re: [native-lang] The Swiss NGO is online!
Raphael, My apologies for not congratulating you first, fastest, and most :-) I've witnessed, and I hope, helped, you and your team arrive at this point, and it is great. I shoiuld hope that your work can prove to be a model others can follow in setting up regional (and sustainable) groups. I am convinced that only by having regional groups--something I and others have now long advocated--can we successfully engage those who would most benefit from OOo and its technologies. The Web is great but it is not the everything wanted. Cheers, Louis On 2010-03-30, at 14:53 , Sophie wrote: Hi Raphael, Raphael Bircher wrote: Hi at all Happy news from Switzerland. Re: [native-lang] The Swiss NGO is online!
Hi at all Thanks for the great feedback. The Goals of OpenOffice.org Switzerland are: - Networking - Be present in Switzerland for OOo eg. at Events - collaborate with oter associations like PILO, La Mouette, educooo or OpenOffice.org Deutschland e.V - doing Marketing efforts - search, introduct and coach new Devs - Support people who doing a load for OOo (Material and Monay) - doing special project like extension development. - Search Donators and Sponsors. The special thing is, that we want to cross the volunteer barrier. Moast of bigger associasions pay for important work. E.g. a load of Sport Coachs get money even the players are not professionals. We want to adapt this concept to the OOo Association. We think, this is a way to get more people involved. The Concept behind this is not so easy to explane, but it's nothing new. Maybe we have first results at the OOo Con and maybe I will present the concept. At the Moment we have a load to do. Searching Members and Sponsors, preparing Events and working on Concepts. We have a meeting of the executive commitee after easter. then we know more I think Greetings Raphael Am 30.03.10 15:46, schrieb Charles-H. Schulz: Raphael, Congratulations indeed! [native-lang] CJK Regional Conference
I'd like to propose we discuss an East Asian Regional Conference for this June. The linguistic focus would be CJK but other linguistic regions are more than welcome to participate. These could include, say, Vietnamese, Cambodian, etc., though in the end it may make more sense to hold separate events…. let's discuss that, too. Why June? Because the annual COPU event is to be held in Beijing end of June, and it occurs to me that it would save us some grief--monetary, as well as procedural and managerial--if we could piggy-back an OOo event on it. So, I envision a day or two dedicated to issues specific to OOo/ODF, such as localization, fonts, MSFT interoperability, and so on. These are pressing issues, and identifying them as well as possible resolutions is of some priority. But there are other issues, too, such as accessibility. And then there are the more social ones, such as sustaining the communities making up OOo in the region(s).
