Can we delay the race with 1-2 days? It's usually Thursdays when Gradle
publishes it's releases as well. While I do not think that they will
announce a 8.0 GA after just two rc-s, but it may worth to look if
something is changed.

Yes, a few of us are regularly on-line, trying to help each other.

Our non:official Telegram group is also growing, recently got our 500th
member, though many of them are students trying to learn Java and sometimes
NetBeans.

Re: [DISCUSS] Release Apache NetBeans VSCode Extension 16.0.301 voting candidate 2

2023-02-01 Thread Michael Bien
when would be a good time to merge cleanup PRs to master, which for
example add missing @Overrides project wide.

I wanted to start after NB 17 rc3 is out, which is probably tomorrow. I
can delay it further if VSNB is doing a release right now. Is next week ok?

Would be good to time it so that nobody has to resolve avoidable conflicts.

michael

As we went so far I still planned on releasing it even it is more work for me.
I need some changes to be on marketplace ideally this weekend so it can be used
by some of the GraalVM tooling…
All the work with cherry picks… but we are almost there.

slack is still there. I see you online right now, what is the problem? ;)

slack was running some more aggressive ads recently for communities
which use the free option. Doesn't surprise me that this causes some
confusion.

Is Slack still actively used by the community or was it just a trial?

[slack] Is it still used?

Hello,

I am not really used to Slack so pardon me if my question seems obvious.

I saw that there is a Slack community about netbeans. I joined it, but
noticed a trial period count down. I suppose it is related to the space
itself and not my membership.

Now it has expired.

Is Slack still actively used by the community or was it just a trial?

Apart from the mailing lists are there other locations "a la" Slack to

Thanks. Ironically, this now shows correctly in NB17 if the sources
are removed from the platform registration (don't!). Win some, lose
some!

Well, no problem from me if you want extra work! :-)

We do however need to make sure that if we go beyond feature freeze
again in future, all the cherry picks are from delivery and not
master. Otherwise you could end up with the following release not
containing some of those cherry-picked features. I'm assuming we're
now confident everything in 16.0.301 is in 17?

Yes, an issue would be good, if not a PR! :-)

I assume this is down to a missing Kind at
https://github.com/apache/netbeans/blob/master/java/java.sourceui/src/org/netbeans/api/java/source/ui/ElementJavadoc.java#L1230

The recent PR for @summary is probably worth a look

I don't know if there's any way to offer a sensible default in that
switch? At least rendering the text inside unknown tags might be
good, although I'm not sure how feasible that is in practice?

I asked this same question in https://github.com/apache/netbeans/pull/5386

>From my perspective, having both delivery and vsnetbeans_1603 branches
active at the same time has been a pain. Ideally if we're having
interim VSCode releases, these phases never overlap. If they do, we
need to ensure everything that gets cherry-picked for the VSCode
branch goes through delivery first.

2023-02-01 Thread Neil C Smith
Hi,

I've merged all remaining open and ready PRs to delivery. I plan to
sync to release170 later today and then trigger a build of 17-rc3.

This will be the last release candidate unless something high /
critical priority is reported. Speak up now if you think anything has
been missed!

Delivery is now closed for merging unless a high / critical priority
PR comes through.

Thanks and best wishes,
