Indeed, they are nice. The part introducing the Sidebar is very good too.

Just a question: we will be promoting this Cwiki page, but:

1) I recall seeing that there was a static version available for each
page, which was the recommended one for publishing links (and had a URL
ending in .html). I can't see it now. What is the link we should publish?

2) May we get rid of the Upgraded to 3.5.17. Upgrade to 5.1 delayed.

So, for 4.0 I would expect:

The Release Notes are starting to look very nice. It is worth

I noticed that the gatekeeper notice is twice on the release notes and
with the same text, one under known issues and the other near the end,
under upgrading/installation, is that intended? Maybe the second one should
be shorter, pointing to the known issues?

BTW, ES translation is ready.

Regards
Ricardo

This is the primary statement of what is in the release. The
introductory sections are general enough that this page can be used as
a self-contained announcement message. It doesn't require additional
 context.

However, we will have additional announcement statements.

 1) There will be a press release. This repeats a subset of the
contents of the release nots, but it the format and style that is
expected in a press release. Don Harbison took the lead on drafting
 that.

 2) We should also have a brief blog post. Maybe only a paragraph or
two and then a link to the Release Notes. I don't want to spend too
much time on the blog post since I am almost certain the blog will
crash under load. For that reason I'd recommend that we don't promote
the blog page via social media, etc., Promote the Release Notes
 instead.

In the past we've translated the blog post. But in this case I'd
recommend we focus on translating the Release Notes.

 3) A brief announcement to our mailing lists, including the 9000
subscribers of our announcement mailing list. Again, linking back to
 the Release Notes.

 4) Posts to Twitter, Google+, Facebook, etc. This is something where
everyone can help spread the news, by sharing, +1'ing, RT'ing,. etc.

The Press Release went out with a link to the CWiki version of the
Release Notes (the only version we have). The blog post links to that
as well, though that can be changed if someone makes a static version.

 2) May we get rid of the Upgraded to 3.5.17. Upgrade to 5.1 delayed.

If you press the '[' key you can eliminate the navigator on the left,
but I don't see a special URL for that. It would be great if there
was a special URL that would show only the page contents without the
nav or header.

Sorry, I meant the static version of the cwiki page. The cwiki pages
exist in two versions, the live one and a static one that is
automatically generated (and, possibly, handles the traffic better?). In
the meantime I found it: the static version of

is
https://cwiki.apache.org/OOOUSERS/aoo-40-release-notes.html
but the former actually looks nicer...

As for the www.openoffice.org page, if I get it right we won't be
copying the release notes to the website right now: we will use the
cwiki version at release time.

Yes, this was added by Infra when they upgraded Cwiki. The static

[PROPOSAL] End-of-Life for OpenOffice.org 3.3.0

2013-07-19 Thread Rob Weir
We currently have this link from the download page, from 2009,
announcing end-of-life for OpenOffice.org 2.x:

http://www.openoffice.org/development/releases/eol.html

I'd like to update that page to also state that 3.x version prior to
3.4.x are also end-of-life. Why? We're unlikely to issue any more
security patches for 3.3.0 or earlier.

So the concrete proposal is:

1) Update the eol.html page to state that OOo 3.3.0 and earlier are no
longer supported.

2) Create a new landing page for users of OOo 3.3.0 and before who are
using a language version that we do not yet have a translation.
Explain in this page that the earlier versions are no longer
supported. List what translations are currently available and where
they can be downloaded from. Give information on how they can
volunteer to help translate AOO into their native language.

3) Configure the update notification server to OOo 3.3.0 users to this
new landing page, if their language is not already translated. (Where
there is a translation we already point them to the download page)

4) Blog post/announcement on end-of-life for OOo 3.3.0 and earlier.

The end result is that: 1) We made it clear what versions are
supported. 2) We did our due diligence to reach out to users of older
versions. 3) We encourage new translation volunteers.

No rush on this. It does not need to be done at the same time as the
4.0 announcement. It can follow a week or so later.

 Hi

I know it does not change anything, but imacat did not withdraw her -1, so
it should be in the tally for the record. The vote is binding and should be
 counted.

It is in principle no good, that a single person decides if a vote is valid
or not, it sort of invalidates the idea of voting.

imacat's VOTE was not a Veto as you cannot veto a release. Since it was not a
VETO situation there is no invalidation.

Please count her VOTE as (binding)

In a sense this is different from Rapheal's -1 which was agreed by acclamation
once the flaw was obvious.

Thank you.

but link it to the CWiki version.

 Does that sound OK?

Yes, if you need help just give me a note.

Thanks. I've done this a few times so hopefully no glitches with this one.
The static HTML that gets rendered is exactly what is shown in:

which I also did not know about.

Release Notes (the only version we have). The blog post links to that
as well, though that can be changed if someone makes a static version.

The Release Notes on the wiki are really really super! Maybe the most
beautiful Release Notes I have ever seen! :)

+1.
Great release notes!

As Juergen already wrote, we remain committed to make the traditional

it will be available as snapshot build.

do whatever you want, from my point of view imacat voted on something that

I hope the rsync url works now, if not please contact the infra people
directly.

rsync Url: rsync.apache.org::apache-dist-external

A complete file list can you find here

As I mentioned earlier I will be not available until next week Thursday.
But I hope I can follow the release a little bit to have some fun with

release media files

2013-07-19 Thread Drew Jensen
Howdy Folks,

Long time no speak - I noticed the pedning the 4.0 release, read an email
the other day regarding the use, or not so much, of the blog for an
announcemtn and more social media. Thought perhaps you would like a short
'release announcement' type video perhaps.

I took the liberty of spinning up a very brief such item, which you can
find here:

https://docs.google.com/file/d/0Bx7ZNEXlmR0IUTY1YzFhR1VLQU0/edit?usp=sharing
[unzip the a4.mp4 video file from the uploaded zip container]

This is just 13 seconds, very low key, I think classy however (course' I'm
bias), I had in mind an audiance of those already using the suite and just
waiting for the release - so useful maybe on FB or G+, but if it suits
anyone please feel free to use it in any fashion you see fit.

Now - one item, I have not been on-line much for many months (only 1 a week
for a few hours on average) and have not kept up with the goings on, so,
was not able to quickly find a vector graphic of what I take if the new
logo, only - I did what I could using the PNG image I found on the wiki,
but I'm sure there is a better image available.

So, if anyone knows where a vector image for that logo can be found I
appreciate it if you could ping back to this mail on the list with the URL.

I would also like to offer, and have started, a second video. Longer, 45 -
90 sec. range, with a quick summary of new features. A little different
audiance from the shorty here, I suppose. To start that I've downloaded all
the information from the release notes page on the wiki, have used this to
generate some raw screen video catpure for the GUI changes and will use,
with your permission If I may, the graphics from the wiki for some of the
file fidelity enhancements.

On this second piece, the problem is likely of what *not* to include, if I
want to hit the length mark above - that certainly would benefit from
collaboration on the list here. Also, because I've not been following along
the list on a reagular basis I'm not sure if anyone is dong somthing like
that already, if so I would offer to help - otherwise, I planned on putting
a first cut together over the weekedn and would make a copy to the list for
merciless review (the best kind of course). If anyone wants to post on the
list to the email with a script though - it wouldn't hurt at all ;)

Thanks for all your had work, it shows in the product.

The Release Notes are starting to look very nice. It is worth
reviewing if you have not looked recently:

https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/AOO+4.0+Release+Notes

I noticed that the gatekeeper notice is twice on the release notes and
with the same text, one under known issues and the other near the end,
under upgrading/installation, is that intended? Maybe the second one should
be shorter, pointing to the known issues?

BTW, ES translation is ready.

It looks really a bit too much duplicate.

@Kay:
AFAIK you have created the additional part. What do you think, can you
shorten it with a reference to the known issue?

Marcus

This is something where
everyone can help spread the news, by sharing, +1'ing, RT'ing,. etc.

-Rob

The Release Notes on the wiki are really really super! Maybe the most

What I was planning to do -- as soon as additional editing on the release
note stabilize -- is:

1. make an HTML copy *only* as backup and port that to:

http://www.openoffice.org/development/releases/4.0.0.html/

(so you will see this in the commit logs)

2. Set up a new link in:

  http://www.openoffice.org/development/releases/index.html for 4.0.0

but link it to the CWiki version.

Does that sound OK?

  2) May we get rid of the Upgraded to 3.5.17. Upgrade to 5.1 delayed.

If you press the '[' key you can eliminate the navigator on the left,
but I don't see a special URL for that. It would be great if there
was a special URL that would show only the page contents without the
 nav or header.
