Re: [dev] File | Open default file type

2007-02-08 Thread Olaf Felka
Wouldn't it be consequent to rename the 'file open dialog' to 'document
open dialog'? And changing the entry int he menu bar from 'File' to
'Document'?

All documents rather than All Files (*.*). The reason is that novice
users are clicking on document types such as .pdf's and getting a confusing
error message. OOo should not by default list unsupported document types in
the File | Open dialog.

The following enhancement requests are all related:

http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=10048
http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=19918
http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=67163
http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=70421

(and for a counterview, see
http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=5348

http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=7329)

The gist of the enhancement request is: File | Open always
defaults to file type *.*.
It would be nice if it defaulted to file type of the current
application, so for example, when in Writer, File | Open
would default to the file type 'Text Documents'.

What is the status of this enhancement? It looks like it may
have been implemented in v2.0.4rc3 and then removed. Is
there any plan to implement this?

Thank you,

Allen

[dev] Preventing from document closing

2007-02-08 Thread Jordi Sanchez Lara
Hi all,

I am suffering a problem for handling properly the document's closing
action.
As I've seen, I'm not the first guy with this kind of problem (
http://api.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?listName=devmsgNo=15467 or
http://api.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=devmsgNo=16017)

Taking into account the last information I have about this issue
(posted by Mathias Bauer:
http://api.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=devmsgNo=16025) Could
I consider the current behavior as a bug? If not, Could someone explain
me what I'm doing wrong?

PS: Is there some way to disable (programatically) the x-closer in the
document's frames. I see that if there is more than one document open,
the internal x-closer disappear.

Thank you very much.

Hello Olaf,

I don't know who first came up with the File menu. Its been around since
at least 1984, with the introduction of the Apple Macintosh. Since then,
most applications have had File as their left-most menu. It hasn't always
made sense to me either. I believe the menu File may have originally
represented the act of filing, as in to file a memo in a filing cabinet,
rather than the common use of the term among computer people, a file as
named stream of data, usually stored on disk in a hierarchical directory.

 Hi carsten,Hi peter,Hi all,
I have added a new freture named Preview Web_HtmlIn the OpenOffice.org.
This feature can be described as follows:
Added a new menu item in the File menu which named 'Web Html'. This menu item
can make the current document browsed in web page. text, picture and media
that can be edit in the document are all can be browsed successful.
you can discuss and give me your opinion in this
 page:http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/mwiki/index.php?title=Development/Web_HTMLredirect=no
You also can download the Specification in the
 http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Image:Preview_Web_Html_Specification.odt
 page.
don't hesitate to point out if there are still some unseemliness.

[dev] How to build openoffice.org-debian-menus?

2007-02-08 Thread Matthias B.

When I build OOo I get the debs for OOo itself, but
openoffice.org-debian-menus is not built. How do I get this to be
built? Calling dmake in sysui/desktop/debian doesn't work.

Re: [dev] OOo Security Enhancements?

2007-02-08 Thread Laurent Godard

Hi Malte

As I state there, I support the idea of not implicitly trusting macros
located in the OOo installation, but I don't think that the basic
integrity checks for documents are worth implementing.

What are your opinions on this?

I globally agree with your views reading the wiki
I think the article is biaised, based on a primo-infection

One thing worth to do is to make the digital signing smoothly working
and widely used

Thanks a lot for your document

I can guess - the debian menus are needed only by the debian
packager, and they are packaged a different way, so it is not worth
the trouble of up-streaming the debian packaging process into OOo?

Perhaps the menus will be built if you get the debian source package
and build that one using the debian build process, you should look at
http://lists.debian.org/debian-openoffice/

But i wonder, is there some special reason why you need to build your
debs from the upstream sources?
