somehow the ref guide didn't seem to get the right version, and isn't quite
working... It lists a 9.6-beta version, which I had noted this 9.6-beta at
one point but I assumed that since I had never typed the word "beta"

After some confusion, I think I have determined that the file in the html
site repo called guide.md is actually pointless now because of this commit:

That's an interesting idea. Not to add CHANGES entries for the smallest
ref-guide typo.
I’d like to have both committers and contributers included, not just
contributors. If it’s just contributors, and the list is short, then it may
appear we have a very small community ;-).
