One I've heart before that made some sense would be "organised through planners@ and featuring Apache exclusive content". Please refine the definition to make it a better fit. I consider an event official if one of the following: * it is put on with the blessing, and participation, of a project PMC. (Eg MesosCon) * It is put on by the VP Events, or someone delegated by her/him. (Eg Apache EU Roadshow) Approving a third-party event that does not have the *participation* of a PMC makes it approved, but not official. Things like meetups which are put on by a local user community are community events. I suppose a particular meetup might be part of category 1 above, but with dozens of them a week (sometimes dozens a day!) it's pretty hard to keep up with them. But if a particular PMC wishes to promote one of them, and treat it like an official event, more power to them. This is something that is wholely delegated to those PMCs, as discussed and decided in the dim and distant past, and probably not documented anywhere. Which ... speaking of the various events websites, we also need a page somewhere that documents these policies/definitions for posterity. That has been on my ToDo list for a very, very long time. Indeed, in my todo.txt, aspects of this task are currently items 4, 5, 9, 11, and 12. Alas, smaller numbers indicate older items, not higher priority. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: dev-unsubscr...@community.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: dev-h...@community.apache.org

In my past life, I would have said "official Apache events" are only the events that: - Are branded as Apache events - "ApacheCon*" or anything with "Apache" in the name. Otherwise, how does the world know they're official? - Are organized by planners@ or by an Apache PMC or otherwise in a situation where VP Conferences or a PMC has a direct and official say in defining the conference content. As opposed to a commercial company that's often competing with our projects. The issue is - who decides? If *we* don't have a clear definition and stamp of approval, we've seen in the past there are vendor-run events that regularly hijack our project's trademarks for their own benefit - and sometimes to our project's detriment. Events should only show on our calendar with the magic "official Apache Event" stamp if it uses our branding directly. But I also agree that we should make it much easier to list the many other events in the same calendar, both at the ASF level as well as at a project level. > > Please refine the definition to make it a better fit. -- - Shane Director & Member The Apache Software Foundation - To unsubscribe, e-mail: dev-unsubscr...@community.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: dev-h...@community.apache.org

And then people can ask here to have their events included, and we give write access to our PMC members. Hi Daniel, so I think it's just a POV difference. I'm +1 to consolidating and repointing things to ApacheCon for all the 2018 and 2019 planned events. My -1 was related to this point: 2) have apachecon.com be about apachecon only. I view the Apache Roadshows as a well named "mini" apachecon and that they belong on the apachecon.com. Rich might disagree though so I would bow to him but I think he weighed in already with his preferred url. regards, KAM -- Kevin A. McGrail Asst. That's what I'd say, IMO. A future task will be for you (Rich) to simply choose one URL that you want to be the landing page, and then - separately - we can figure out who's going to volunteer to migrate content (or at least landing pages and redirects) to that central URL. Personally, I like events.a.o since it's easy to remember, but I just dabble here. 8-) https://www.apache.org/events/ (www repo, cms markdown) https://www.apache.org/events/meetups.html https://www.apache.org/foundation/events https://events.apache.org/index.html (concom repo, cms markdown) https://community.apache.org/calendars/ (comdev repo, cms markdown) https://apachecon.com/ (apachecon repo, flat html) https://wiki.apache.org/apachecon/ (moinmoin wiki - it's still alive!) -- - Shane Director & Member The Apache Software Foundation - To unsubscribe, e-mail: dev-unsubscr...@community.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: dev-h...@community.apache.org
